I hate anti-vaxxers

How can anyone in this day and age be an anti-vaxxer? London and West mids currently suffering from a meassls outbreak. DS is under 1 so cannot yet have vaccine, I know of someone whose 10momth old contracted measels as they were too young for vaccine.
Ridiculous that reckless and tardy parents are putting all our children at risk. Actually terrible.

A lot of anti vaxxers are doctors

Many doctors and nurses I know, refuse to get vaccinated or choose only have some vaccinations, for one reason or another. If you go to your GP surgery or Hospital, do you actively ask their vaccination status before they treat you?

You cannot say a medical consultant is ignorant or uneducated in this field. Quite the contrary.

btw I and my children have had all our vaccinations

Edited

Any actual evidence of this! Or just what you heard from someone who heard it from someone

GarlicMetre · 04/07/2025 03:33

Absolutely this. Some countries don't allow unvaccinated children to attend school & nursery, unless they've got an exemption certificate. I think they're sensible.

Also, I keep hearing the Covid Cough out and about. I've managed to put a rapid distance between myself and the coughers so far, but am really fucked off that everyone's merrily going around 'living with it', spreading their spiky germs. I had my jab last winter, but it will have worn off by now and catching Covid's quite likely to kill me.

Having the Covid jab nearly killed me. In hospital for 4 month.

Firealarm1414 · 04/07/2025 09:19

Every country has differing vaccine schedules so this blind hatred of "anti vaxxers" is a bit ridiculous. My child was born in London and received the bcg vaccine, then we moved back to Ireland where that wasn't the standard. Are the irish authorities anti vaxx? Then we moved to the US and my child received several vaccines that aren't on the schedule in the UK or Ireland, such as the chicken pox one and had to take extra ones of some she already had due to differing formulations. Does the fact that the UK doesn't vaccinate against chicken pox as standard make them science deniers? Anyway, now I'm an "anti vaxxer" and derided because I chose not to get any covid shot despite the fact that I'm clearly not due to all the aforementioned shots my kid has received. Make it make sense

I am of an age that these vaccines were not available when I was a child. I remember having measels, it was hideous I was extremely ill and have suffered permanent damage to my ears, a friend of mine has her sight affected. I am glad the vaccine was available for my DC's and they didn't have to go through what I did.

Same. My brother had Whooping Cough so badly that my mother thought he might die.

When my youngest son was admitted to Kings College Hospital as a baby for an infection, the first question they asked us was whether his immunisations all up to date? I was very relieved that they were, and so were they.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 04/07/2025 06:57

I agree.

No flying without vaccinations.
No public schooling.
No childcare (unless the provider is also anti vaxx and it needs to be publicised so parents make an informed choice).
No state funded medical care.

It's fine to have an extreme opinion. But if you don't want to function as part of society, you need to be prepared to go it alone. There are always people that do reject society and social standards. But it's a choice to set yourself aside and you shouldn't get to benefit from herd immunity while being a risk to others.

The pushback would be massive if you blocked one in four adults from the NHS and travel. You would possbily see an insurgency or open rebellion in some areas.

Ineedcoffee2021 · 04/07/2025 03:04

others medical choices are none of your concern

Not true.

Anti-vax ears are making it dangerous for everyone, particularly those who cannot gave vaccines for medical reasons, those who are vaccinated but they didn’t work, those who are vaccinated but it’s not as effective due to medical reasons. All of those above rely on herd immunity as a protective factor: anti backers are decimating herd immunity.

My only concern is me and my family honestly
I wont do stuff to my body or my kids body for anyone elses feelies

Yet here you are, using the internet, created by scientists, seemingly without concern. Let me guess, if your kid gets really unwell, you wouldn't hesitate to benefit from science then, would you?

Someone very close to me is deaf because of an illness in childhood that they hadn't been vaccinated against.

And yet other people’s families are impacted by your grossly ignorant belligerence.

GreenGully · 04/07/2025 09:14

Depends on the vaccine. People should have all the regular ones that have been around for decades. However, not wanting the Covid jab didn't make someone an anti vaxxer, it just made them anti that 'vaccine.'

Being sceptical about a vaccine that wasn't actually a vaccine and got pumped out in record time therefore had no long term latent side effects research was not something I was ever going to take willingly, despite the media scaremongering and peer pressure.

Unfortunately we are seeing those delayed effects coming home to roost.

I'd add you are either all for bodily autonomy or you aren't. I've seen men online going insane about potential vax mandates during the pandemic, whilst still supporting the abolition of abortion rights.

OP are you pro choice by any chance? If so you have to accept the decisions people make with their own bodies otherwise it is hypocrisy.

You've contradicted yourself - your only concern is yourself and your family, yet in the next sentence you say you won't do 'stuff' to your body or your kid's body? You need to protect your family by vaccinating them, not leaving them to get sick when you could have protected them with an extremely safe vaccine! I just don't understand that attitude. And by the way you do 'stuff' to your body every single day by eating, breathing and drinking! Perhaps give that some thought?

The HPV vaccine has already been proven to be incredibly effective.

I don't understand doing your own research. I am not qualified to do that, so I take advice from those who are.

Exactly none of us are. But those who are, are also bound by the incentive structures of their organisations that guarantee we don't hear the full truth. Profit trumps safety wherever they can get away with it.

They're proud of it too! Imagine flaunting your ignorance and utter lack of care and empathy for anyone else's children but your own.

It also demonstrates a lack of care and empathy for their own children, as they are at risk too. These selfish parents are protected, as they had the vaccine, but they will happily put their children at risk "out of concern".

@1dayatatime I've read some nonsense in my time, but this takes the biscuit. Defining the difference between a vaccine and a jab? "Jab" being slang for an injection has no medical definition. None whatsoever. You can be vaccinated against some diseases, you can be inoculated against others. You can call either or both "jabs" if you like, but it has no medical meaning. Stop peddling nonsense.

You know you would interact daily with unvaxxed people

Literally the only place i see this hate for the unvaxxed is online, IRL, people dont give a shit

Im glad we all have a choice as to what we put in our bodies

People in real life do give a shit. Just that they feel more comfortable expressing their views anonymously online than in person face to face.

Downwiththmoonshine · 04/07/2025 09:09

Have you ever seen anyone try to be treated for vaccine injury, OP? I have, and the medical denial and gaslighting that goes on is truly incredible. It's no wonder there is so much suspicion and conspiracy when genuine cases of injury are so strenuously denied. (It was eventually admitted but it was a real fight to get there).

I'm not an anti vaxxer for the really serious diseases - the pros outweigh the cons on these. But I won't have the covid or flu vaccine.

DiggingHoles · 04/07/2025 09:09

Ineedcoffee2021 · 04/07/2025 03:04

others medical choices are none of your concern

Would you say the same to someone smoking in doors, especially around children? What about drunk driving or going out in public with an infectious disease?

These choices are absolutely all of our concern, as they put us all at risk. These reckless decisions remove other people's choices to be responsible.

I’m not an anti-vaxxer but I also won’t just blindly take any vaccine without weighing things up and doing my research. The whole scandal over the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine is a perfect example of why people should be doing this - a young relative, highly unlikely to ever be severely effected by Covid ended up on a high dependency ward days after having it due to the now known blood clot side effect. Her blood was so thickened that they struggled to even get a sample. Was it really worth risking her life for?

DD for example didn’t have the HPV vaccine in secondary school as it only protects against a few out of hundreds of strains yet has documented side effects like Guillan-Barre syndrome. The risk outweighed the benefit in my eyes.

For the record - yes, she was fully vaccinated as a baby/toddler. I’d never dream of leaving my child susceptible to diseases like measles or meningitis.

With regards to the HPV vaccine, yes it only protects against some strains, but those are dangerous strains that can cause cancer. From what I remember, kids are given it in year 8/9 and many won’t fully appreciate the significance of it at that age, but that’s where I feel that a parent should strongly advise their 13/14 year olds to have it due to the possible consequences of not having it.

What does "doing your research" entail?

Do you do a decades-long clinical trial involving thousands of subjects and publish peer-reviewed research on it before deciding to accept a vaccine? Or do you read stuff on YouTube.

@Ineedcoffee2021 what if your child got measles, gave it to a newborn baby and that baby died?

That poster wouldn't care. She has said that she only cares about her own family.
