I hate anti-vaxxers

How can anyone in this day and age be an anti-vaxxer? London and West mids currently suffering from a meassls outbreak. DS is under 1 so cannot yet have vaccine, I know of someone whose 10momth old contracted measels as they were too young for vaccine.
Ridiculous that reckless and tardy parents are putting all our children at risk. Actually terrible.

others medical choices are none of your concern

Actually, as OP describes, they are. It's called public health, dear.

Ha! I don't drive either. Live in London so don't need to.
But are you ok with others driving drunk? The driver of the bus or train you take? Who needs state control after all?

Do you see how us both using silly examples and false equivalence is pointless?

Am I supposed to say yes I think drink driving is a good idea otherwise my point about state overreach in reation to health policy is inconsistent?

I am a supporter of vaccination, my children were vaccinated for everything available. Abusing people won't make them change, but I understand that health workers who can work with groups that don't want to vaccinate have worked wonders with a softer approach. I cited my life experience because it is indicative of the effect these illnesses had before vaccination was available.

I had all these diseases except rubella. Our experience wasn’t at all indicative of the effect of these diseases before vaccination - it’s merely the perceived mild effect on those children who survived unscathed. I’d no idea about there being children who had died, and almost none about children who had been impaired by them - kids with special needs weren’t in mainstream education. The only one I knew about was rubella, there was a boy came to Sunday school when he was home for the school holidays from his boarding ‘special school’ - profoundly deaf. Fortunately by the time I was a teenager girls were all being vaccinated - I never heard of any objections.

HouseholdBudget · 04/07/2025 10:53

Oh dear, the morning anti vaxx bat signal obviously went up and called them in.

Do you or your children enjoy sport - swimming, or running or cycling, playing tennis, football, just being able to mess about outside? Even being able to walk more than a couple of hundred metres without falling over. My MIL has been able to do none of those things since she was 6. She falls most weeks, has broken most of her major bones and quite a lot of her smaller ones. Why? Because she wasn't vaccinated against polio as a child. She lost friends to it and has lived her entire life disabled and is now largely housebound.

In her case, it was because the vaccine only came out the year after she contracted it. She is one example of a life irrevocably changed by a now vaccine preventable disease.

Antivaxxers - If you want to risk your child never running and playing again, you are ignorant, uneducated and wilfully dangerous to society.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 04/07/2025 10:50

I'm pro-vaccine, but I'm seriously anti-forced-vaccine. Covid turned me significantly that way. I was basically forced (lose my career if I didn't comply) into the initial covid jabs and I've been left with long term damage as a result - thankfully the booster requirements were reduced before I had to have those because I still deal with constant joint pain and auto immune conditions and I would have had to have the boosters or lose my career otherwise.

Occ Health incidentally know my jab status and my rationale for not wanting boosters and are OK with that and I have the full Pokemon collection of other jabs needed to work in healthcare just fine.

Having been in that situation and had the consent element essentially removed - for all that I was asked "do I consent" when the alternative was throwing away a university education, thousands of student debt and the ability to pay your mortgage - it wasn't really consent at all - I will never join the pitchforks baying for mandatory vaccination or removal from society - how quickly it descended during covid terrified me.

It's also the only jab I've declined for my kids - after seeing how it caused havoc with my immune system I didn't want to risk it with kids who have half my genetics.

And no I don't believe the Covid jabs cause cancer, improve 5G reception or anything like that nonsense - I just believe that every single thing we do to our bodies has the potential for someone to react adversely and on this occasion I got the unlucky end of things and wanted to keep the choice to decline anything that might make it worse for me to live with long term.

There are subtleties to the discussion that get conveniently wiped out in this whole pro-vaccine=good, anti-vax=idiotic dickheads who support Trump shite that it invariably descends to online... which is why I shall post this and then hide the thread because the only thing that vaccines consistently do without any risks of failure or adverse effects is to send internet arguments down the shitter of insult hurling rapidly

Ineedcoffee2021 · 04/07/2025 10:47

Wow go to work for a few hours......

I cant reply to everyone and since much is repeated, everyone should find a response to their question somewhere

forthispostonly It's not for someone else's "feelies".
It's to prevent outbreaks of dangerous diseases that we had eradicated in the UK until recently.

Well isnt it lucky im in Aus lol

Mustardmummy23 what if your child got measles, gave it to a newborn baby and that baby died?
If DD got it she wouldnt be going out and did have one when younger so may still be covered, im not sure
We dont have any newborns in our circle

HedwigIsMySpiritAnimal
When it comes to vaccines they’re everyone’s concern! Do you understand how herd immunity works??**
Jesus the ignorance is terrifying

Its really not, i dont care if you have them or not, wont try and change your mind either way
What i do with my body is my choice
Nah, just honest but again, im not out to change anyones mind, your choice is yours

Neemie
Look up pictures of small pox and then see how your own ‘feelies’ feel. Fortunately, due to mass vaccination, it has been eradicated so you don’t have to worry about dying or being disfigured by it.

Maybe see my response to the feeling empathy thread
Plus, i was 13 scrolling rotton.com, not much shocks me on a screen at 37

BridgeNewton
They are everybody's concern if those decisions can harm other people.
Antivaxxers put other people at risk through their own ignorance and/or stupidity. Parents who don't vaccinate their children (without any sound medical reason) should be charged with child abuse and prosecuted.

Its really not
Who said my kid isnt vaxxed, till a certain point? DH wanted it done when DD was young, i wasnt fussed, as her parent he got a say too. NOW he is more vocal anti vax than me thanks to covid
Now she gets a choice and its on the get round to it at some point for her, she in no rush but not opposed them apart from flu and covid

*Springtimehere *
Well it is our concern when internationally herd immunity is how it is contained.
Morons taking a choice to risk others including there poor children.
It is on our new's as well thats the problem.
Anti vaxxers are morons.**

Nobody changes their mind on name calling lol
Why assume those who dont vaccinate themselves dont get their kid done? See above

sashh
Have you heard of Mary Mallon? Her 'medical choices' killed up to 50 people.
Sometimes they are none of anyone else's business but sometimes it very much is.

Bit extreme
I highly doubt me not getting vaxxed would cause anything similar

Slightyamusedandsilly
IRL people DO give a shit but we're busy with our everyday lives and it doesn't come up.
If we knew you were anti-vax IRL we would ostracise you.

And yet my experience is vastly different
It comes up when people ask why i lost my supermarket job

Planesmistakenforstars ·
Fortunately you and your family are protected by people with fully functioning brain cells. Actual adult cognition and reasoning is not usually called "feelies."

and that type of response is supposed to what? make me change my mind? "oh someone on the internet was mean, i better got get vaxxed"

Shenmen
Fuck all to do with "feelies', everything to do with the potential death or disability of the immunocompromised such as my 6 year old niece.

Reality is someone can be vaxxed to the hills, it not make any immunity but they have no idea, they got vaxxed, job done and then they go out sick thinking its ok cos the vaxxed
I just stay home if im sick

Fargo79

sounds like a parody account. Such a neat example of the stereotypical antivaxxer and (sadly) similar to a few people I've had the misfortune to speak with on the matter IRL. It's part of this awful anti-science, anti-society, cult-driven mindset that has been a feature of certain political groups in recent years, headed up by the likes of Trump and Farage. These people wear their ignorance like a badge of honour and care more about attempting to cause emotional distress to others than they do about facts and the actual material effects of their decisions. Hence the silly, childish comment about "feelies" whilst being unable to actually engage with the subject and talk about why they think vaccinations are not a positive thing. Science doesn't come into it. They see science as "lefty"

Nah been around for a while now - to clear a few things up
Im anti for me, for my own reasons, what you do is your business, i dont try change anyones mind
I dont fall either side politically, i had no idea Aus even called an election until the posters started popping up on the roadside
Feelies - faster to write before i went to work, dont read too deeply into it
Essentially, other peoples opinions on my vax status dont matter to me - see feelies was faster
Nah ive had medical negligence as a kid and adult that makes me stay away from drs and medical things
DD makes her own choices, as does DH - its not on me to influence them

CharlotteCChapel · 04/07/2025 10:47

The problem with vaccinations is that they've removed the diseases that they are supposed to protect against, as they are supposed to. If you don't see children dying or going blind from measles there's no impetuous to get vaccinated.

When I was young , before measles vaccinations were introduced, I had measles and there was worries about my sight. I still have sensitive eyes that are easily irritated. They've not seen children with calipers or in an iron lung due to polio.

Pipsquiggle · 04/07/2025 10:44

All of this stems back to that absolute C u N t Andrew Wakefield.

He was convicted for fraud. He was struck off for fraud.

His study was shite, if he (or his followers) were so committed to his methodology, they could have repeated it to prove he was right - no on has - EVER.

We were once a measles free country, in 2017 we lost that status as less than 95% of the country was vaccinated - SHAME ON ALL the thick, selfish people who think they know better.

Wait till you get shingles - which you could have prevented had a chickenpox vaccine been available - and you will be less sanguine about your experience of chickenpox. Unless, of course, you are old enough to qualify for the shingles vaccine.

Yes, I will have the shingles vaccine once I am old enough but there was no vaccination for Chickenpox when I and my oldest son had it.

Alot of the discussion on this post has been self-righteous, bullying and smug medical fascism mascarading as 'care'. How ever much you disagree with anti vax you can not control people and you can not make life 100% safe for your children. Maybe that explains your method of bullying and threats because you are scared that regardless of what you do for your children, you can feed then all the right foods, breastfeed, have all their vaccinations, they still may become ill.

You see the threat of other parents choosing not to vaccinate their children and just feel helpless so call for state to fix it for you.

Do you really think you will win the argument by calling parents neglectful, intellectually subnormal and so on?

Do you drive drunk? If not, why are you letting the state control you?

Astrabees · 04/07/2025 10:39

thepariscrimefiles · 04/07/2025 09:52

So you contracted measles, rubella and chickenpox and recovered with no long-term effects, so you think that this is the same for everyone? What if a baby with an undeveloped immune system contracted measles, an illness that used to kill small children in the past?

What if you had contracted rubella when pregnant? There is a high likelihood that your baby would be affected and be born with severe disabilities.

High vaccine take up leads to herd immunity so that people who can't take the vaccine, including small babies, are protected.

The polio and small pox vaccines eradicated those diseases in this country. That was a huge achievement that is currently in jeopardy due to the anti-vax movement. What they are doing is much worse that someone referring to them as 'morons' online.

Mum simply said she forgot.
I have im all upto date every jab going was stabbed in me.

My sister never gets ill very healthy no problems doesn't suffer with anything.
I think she's had about 3 colds in 40 year.
Never suffered any bout of mental health issues either.

Me i suffer with alsorts of problems.
Constant migraine tintus pains catch a cold from anyone eye floaters anxiety de realization mental health is in the pot etc.
It dose make me think did i need half the jabs.

Im not against it as its needed but it dose make me wonder.

You need to learn the difference between anecdata and peer reviewed data.

Are you aware that you can ONLY get shingles if you've had chickenpox? So if everyone was vaccinated against chicken pox then no-one would develop shingles in later life.

@GentleSheep That’s not true. The vaccine introduces an attenuated version of the virus to the body so you can indeed get shingles later on. There is good evidence that shingles is not as severe in those who acquire the virus through vaccination though.
There’s also a shingles vaccine available.

I didn't know that thanks for explaining! I did forget to mention the shingles vaccine though. Doh!

Do yo include adults who choose not to have Covid or flu vaccines in that?

I have a needle phobia and having the Covid jab was a huge thing for me but I felt I had to because of the pressure. I had one booster and haven't had one since. Thankfully I'm not in one of the eligible groups so aren't being pushed.

No one likes needles but it’s part of modern medicine, so that can’t be an excuse. If you became diabetic you’d be grateful for needles

100% - I will not knowingly allow antivaxxers anywhere near my child. As well as the infectious component, I do not want my child to be influenced in any way by people who are so selfish and self-absorbed that they don't care about the more vulnerable members of society

Some people can be so ignorant it's actually scary.

Anti vaxxers benefit from the rest of us in society who get vaccinated against serious diseases but they'd be the first to seek nhs treatment if they or their children came down with polio, mumps etc.
It's this 'I'm alright Jack' selfish attitude that gets me, to keep the members of society who are unable to get vaccinated safe via herd immunity everyone needs to do their bit to contribute.

If I found out another kid was not vaccinated due to the parents choice to believe conspiracy theories and not due to medical reasons then they can stay the hell away from me and mine.

I think the UK should follow other countries examples and not allow unvaccinated children to attend school, nursery etc unless they had an exemption certificate.
You make your choice but it shouldn't impact on the rest of society negatively.

I got chicken pox when I was 36, and suffered repeated attacks of shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia for around 10 years afterwards. I don't know if that will have given me immunity, but I'll look into it and if it doesn't, I'll be having the vaccine when I'm eligible in a few weeks time.

Shingles is really fucking painful, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

This is the problem with our society, people like you who have no concern for anyone else in the community. So incredibly selfish.
