We need someone with backbone to put forward an alternative political viewpoint.

Susan Hall's comment is pretty pathetic. Why does she have to travel to Palestine? It's entirely possible to have a view on somewhere without living there. I knew apartheid South Africa was wrong without spending any time there.

Plenty of people in the UK who are no fans of the monarchy.

I’m no fan of the monarchy. But I find her ageist retort immature and disappointing- not something I want to see in the leader of a political party. Shame. She seems very silly now.

For some people (including quite a lot of Ms Sultana's constituents) Palestine is one of the most important global issues at the moment.
As far as I'm aware, Susan Hall is not one of her constituents

Thankfully I'm not one of her constituents either but, like Susan Hall, I'm entitled to an opinion on her. Personally I'd rather my MP showed some interest in local issues but then posting crap on X and pitching up in other constituencies causing trouble.

lazyarse123 · 01/01/2026 21:24

Corbyn is and always has been ineffective and Sultana is just a nutcase.
Her reply on that fb post was extremely immature and ageist. If you have a reasoned argument then use it.
Apart from anything else our mps should be sorting out this country before interfering in other countries. They are not paid to make ridiculous fb post about abolishing the monarchy. They should really be aware of how things work.

Well Sultana seems more interested in Palestine than her own constituency or the rest of the UK so it seems like a reasonable suggestion. She was screeching away outside Bronzefield Prison recently, she’s just a one trick pony - if it’s not Palestine she’s not interested

Bit of a car crash now, with the ageist retorts to royalists…

YANBU to be happy. This is box office entertainment. It's like the Chuckle Brothers starting a new party. The two most permanently aggregates lunatics were always going to be a dysfunctional catastrophe waiting to happen. Can't wait for Season 2.

A focus on the public services that the vast majority of us rely on.

Prioritising public services over big business

Promoting equality.

There are lots of other things but these are the issues that are at the top of my list.

Ah, and do tell us how they will be funded. Without just saying 'taxation'.

We need something that's not the bloody awful Labour Party as a left alternative.

You don't want Corbyn then, he's left of left.

She seems to get worse every day. What an unpleasant woman she is.

Absolutely ... add ageist to the list.

Well splitting the Labour vote leaves the door wide open for Reform.
Is that what you actually want ?

This.

He made the Labour Party unelectable for years but might have just enough votes to split the vote as Reform did to the Tories. And his loathing for the EU was partly responsible for Brexit but you want him to be prominent in British politics? I can only imagine you're a Reform voter/candidate.

EasternStandard · 07/07/2025 07:42

I can see why they’re putting out stories to counter. A gathering on the further left would take some Labour votes.

Twiglets1 · 07/07/2025 05:57

The former Labour leader Neil Kinnock said Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana would “only assist the enemies of Labour” by forming a breakaway challenger party.

Asked how much of a threat he thought any new party could be, after Mr Corbyn suggested that discussions were underway, Lord Kinnock said: “I understand they are having a bit of difficulty over thinking of a name.

“In a comradely way, I’d suggest one. It would be the Farage assistance group.”

It emerged on Sunday that Mr Corbyn’s top team had repeatedly urged Ms Sultana to walk back the announcement, and even asked her to delete it once he had seen it. The Sunday Times reported that Mr Corbyn’s wife, Laura Alvarez, also urged Ms Sultana to delete social media posts unveiling the new venture, but was ignored.

Messages seen by the paper show that Pamela Fitzpatrick, a co-director at Mr Corbyn’s Peace and Justice Project, said in a group chat: “Neither Jeremy nor Laura deserves to be treated with such a lack of respect.”

Lord Kinnock said the new party should be called the ‘Farage assistance group’

What are "real Labour values"?

DoubleShotEspresso · 03/07/2025 21:48

I worry that splitting Labour votes may be counterproductive .
However, nobody I know considers our government to reflect real Labour values.
Ultimately, this is I think a good thing and Starmer & co should pay attention.

My thought process completely

WaryCrow · 06/07/2025 17:12

Unfortunately sense, intelligence and practicality has long since vanished from this country in favour of Victorian/ Regency, Austen-style politicking and social connection. How much of this is driven by men, male ‘values’ (primate dominance values) and aggression is a concern too.

The only thing that gives me any form of hope for the future is that Old Corruption and class inequality was undone once before. Unfortunately it took the gradual developments of a hundred years, two hundred years, talent and vision the like of which Britain hasn’t seen since America took over, and two world wars to fully realise the need to motivate and organise society, like a large team, to work together. The Overton window has shifted so far. I certainly will never live to see this country working again (I’m 50).

ArtfulGoldWriter · 06/07/2025 06:58

In Wales, in the senedd, we have proportional representation. Which means that while Reform will win a proportion of the vote, they won’t have overall power as that isn’t how it works.

The same should happen in Westminster. FPTP is profoundly un democratic - the new left wing party mentioned here would win a proportion of the vote, as would reform and the greens and the lib Dems etc.

Its amazing to me that we still carry on with a voting system where one party can win a tiny proportion of the vote and yet have hundreds of MPs and govern for 5 years.

Wolmando · 06/07/2025 06:17

I see Elon is doing the same, maybe Jezza is setting a precedent.

Apparently they're all falling out already. It's all bit People's Front of Judea isn't it?

All this lot will manage to do is make themselves look idiotic, create further divisions in society, and allow Farage into no10. They don't want people to vote for them - these types never do. They just want a feeling of righteous victimhood and to shout loudly about how unfair everything is. Pathetic.

I thought there were still only 2 of them?
