Lily Allen ‘can’t remember’ how many abortions she’s had

Article in the Fail today about this.
I am pro choice but it did make me a bit uncomfortable. After a while a string of abortions - too many to remember - would surely leave its mark physically and emotionally not mention the cost on the NHS.
Everyone should have a choice but is there not an element of personal responsibility to just take precautions after the first few times?!

I am pro choice

It doesnt change her being irresponsible to have that happen multiple times,
But mostly she wouldbe causing nhs work and possibly fertility issues.

Im not sure about now but previously even the MAP could cause fertilty issues. (Though obviously birth can too)

Abortion can’t be a form of contraception - it happens post conception

she didn’t want to be pregnant so she wasn’t

not seeing the need for all the angst

It wouldn’t happen post conception if people took appropriate precautions. Abortion is an acceptable alternative to failed contraception, not the failure take contraceptive measures in the first place.

LynetteScavo · 03/07/2025 19:48

So many posters who claim to be pro-choice, until someone makes a choice too many times for their liking.

How many times do they think women should be allowed to have a choice? Once? Twice?

I’m no Lilly Allen fan, and don’t claim to be pro-choice. But I’m really irritated by posters who claim to be pro choice, until they don’t like the choice.

So all the “Ooh, it’s a few too many abortions for my taste” people who think there should be an upper limit like a bedroom tax: what happens practically when a woman hits that limit? Do you want them to have an illegal backstreet abortion? Or a baby they don’t want and can’t care for?

Or should we stick with the current system where someone has the freedom to have an abortion that doesn’t affect you, and you have the freedom to be judgey about it?

Or how about women avail themselves of the contraceptive options available in a first world country so that abortion doesn’t become the norm if you can’t be arsed to be responsible ? Back street abortion is not an option for someone like Lily Allen so it’s irrelevant.

Read the article, that’s what’s suggested.

Have YOU read the article? I have just read it and even the misogynist shit show that is the DM isn't suggesting 11, so lord knows where you pulled that imaginary number from.

ghostyslovesheets · 03/07/2025 19:46

Rosscameasdoody · 03/07/2025 19:32

So 11 abortions later it’s not her fault ? Don’t make me laugh. Abortion is not a form of contraception and should not be treated as such by the feckless and irresponsible. I’m as pro choice as they come but there’s a limit.

Lavender14 · 03/07/2025 19:43

Is there really not room in people's minds to see that there may be circumstances where someone is unable to use other forms of contraception and would need multiple abortions? Is it really that hard to do the maths on how that could actually be necessary for some women in vulnerable places in their lives? And yet here we are in a forum that's supposed to be supportive for women, with multiple posters labeling everyone who's had multiple abortions for "non medical reasons" as feckless or disgusting. I've reported the thread, this is vile.

Listen to the podcast, the woman herself says 4 or 5.

11 abortions later you trust LA’s judgement ? OK then.

Yes

ghostyslovesheets · 03/07/2025 19:42

So having what 1? 2? Abortions is okay

11 ohh bad woman shame on you etc?

she didn’t have 11 but if she’d had 111 what the hell impact does that have on anyone but her?

or do unwanted pregnancies suddenly become viable after # 4

its all pearl clutching drama because you think any terminations over ‘ insert own acceptable number’ is suddenly awful and shameful

fuck me it’s her body her choice

Rosscameasdoody · 03/07/2025 19:39

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 03/07/2025 19:35

She also hasn't had 11 abortions but whatever.

KateMiskin · 03/07/2025 19:36

By the end of this thread, Lily Allen will have had 111 abortions, 5 minutes before the baby crowned.

Nope. She had 11 if you read what was said. That’s unnecessary and suggests fecklessness. I fully support a women’s’ right to choose, but 11 times is pushing it. Abortion is not, and should never be used as a form of contraception and that’s what’s happening here.

Rosscameasdoody · 03/07/2025 19:36

ghostyslovesheets · 03/07/2025 16:47

Perhaps we should just leave it to individual women considering or choosing abortion to decide

I trust their judgment

Don’t care what stage she had the abortion at. 11 abortions is feckless. Contraception is easily available.

You are commenting on a post about third trimester abortion. LA hasn't had a third trimester abortion.

Rosscameasdoody · 03/07/2025 19:32

ghostyslovesheets · 03/07/2025 16:45

the ONLY valid reason for abortion is not wanting to continue with a pregnancy

how you got pregnant
why you don’t want to be
how many times you’ve been pregnant before

all irrelevant

if old men want to stop us having safe legal access to abortion it’s hardly lily allens fault

So 11 abortions later it’s not her fault ? Don’t make me laugh. Abortion is not a form of contraception and should not be treated as such by the feckless and irresponsible. I’m as pro choice as they come but there’s a limit.

None of which applied in Allens’ case. Only that she couldn’t be arsed taking responsibility herself or making sure her partner did.

Gosh the knots forced birthers tie themselves up in to try and win

i dont care I am 100% pro choice as early as possible as late as necessary

As late as necessary usually means killing a baby. I’m as pro choice as they come but there are limits.

anonymous98 · 03/07/2025 18:59

If it saves the life of the mother, yes. If the foetus is non-viable, yes. Some babies are born with horrendous conditions and no quality of life which is crueler IMO

It's quite obvious that Lily Allen has controlled mental health issues.
And at a guess, personality disorder issues, self image issues, self loathing issues, sexual boundary issues and boundary issues .
Having those abortions was probably amongst her most mature decisions amongst a plethora of very impulsive behaviours that have dogged her life.

Having contraception before having sex, knowing that she didnt want to be pregnant as a result, would have been a much more mature decision. I’m pro choice but not pro abortion used as a method of contraception for the feckless.

I’ve read a lot of crazy stuff over the years, but somehow “if you support abortion you might as well suffocate babies and toddlers” never ceases to shock me in its cruelty and stupidity.

A pregnancy is potential. That’s all. Whether those first few cells are a “baby” or “not a baby” is entirely subjective, depending on the emotional reaction of the woman who is pregnant. She gets to decide.

First few cells eh. This is the only context I've come across where a 'few' means billions or trillions.

anonymous98 · 03/07/2025 18:59

KnittyNell · 03/07/2025 16:53

So you are would be happy if a baby was murdered just before birth?
Really?

If it saves the life of the mother, yes. If the foetus is non-viable, yes. Some babies are born with horrendous conditions and no quality of life which is crueler IMO

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 03/07/2025 18:55

LookingAtMyBhunas · 03/07/2025 17:57

I agree, and I've had two abortions, both for very different reasons and many years apart. At some point I had to take responsibility and not keep putting myself and my body through that.

Don't they offer you contraception after each termination?

Yes, contraception is offered and long acting forms are strongly encouraged post termination. It is part of standard care planning. However, healthcare professionals cannot force women to use contraception effectively, or at all.
