Lily Allen ‘can’t remember’ how many abortions she’s had

Article in the Fail today about this.
I am pro choice but it did make me a bit uncomfortable. After a while a string of abortions - too many to remember - would surely leave its mark physically and emotionally not mention the cost on the NHS.
Everyone should have a choice but is there not an element of personal responsibility to just take precautions after the first few times?!

I only want wanted children to be born. I have seen up close what an unwanted child ‘s life looks like and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

Far better to prevent that child from being born than subjected to damage, that then repeats through generations.

Once a baby is born it is a person with rights. While in utero it is not a person and has no rights at all. Nor should it.

I want all healthy children to be born as a given. Let's perhaps to our best to help the unwanted child have a happy life. Life might be tough and challenging for them, but as a society we should want to help them instead of ending the life.

I think some rights should be there in utero.

I said I wouldn't debate but I ended up doing so anyway. But I just had to get my point across.

Thousands of women die each year because they have no access to safe abortion.

That's a consequence of your opinion.

Everyone that is pro-life has the mother's life exception. Every law (as far as I know) has the mothers life exception. It's just not being implemented correctly.

Neetra30 · 05/07/2025 13:02

Well lily Allen's comments made me feel disturbed.
In all fairness I have had one abortion in my lifetime, mainly because of my stage 3 bladder prolapse, another pregnancy could increase the risk of me being disabled and/or surgery but all surgery comes with risks.
I saw my embryo as a baby. Who I really, really loved and was heartbroken to let it go. I still cry about it.
But I know it was the right desicion as my existing kids need their mother to be physically fit and able to provide for them.
The way lily Allen even spoke about her terminations, I dont think she even realised how disrespectful it was, especially to women to saw their embryos as babies but had to let them go due to circumstances that were not in their control and because they couldnt give what their babies deserved

I think talking about this in the media was the unwise thing that she should accept flak for. The abortions are nobody's business but her own and no, she shouldn't be criticised for them because we don't know the exact circumstances. And if you're going to criticise her for her carelessness, equal blame should fall on the men in question. Somehow they always get off scot free though.

Criticism regarding finding abortions funny.

NoThankYouSis · 05/07/2025 12:28

Anything for attention that one. Abortion isn’t something to be taken lightly, no matter how necessary it may be. The fact that she’s had so many accidental pregnancies shows she doesn’t take her reproductive health at all seriously.

My view (which I came to after a lot of thinking about both sides of the issue) is yes. If the sex was completely consensual and there are no medical risks at all to mother or child then yes. You gotta accept the consequences of your decision and cannot just terminate because it's inconvenient to you.

Anyway that's my worldview which I'm perfectly allowed to have. It'll noway change UK law unfortunately but I can still have my opinion.

I just assumed because Lily Allen has so many abortions she couldn't count she just wouldn't have had children at all.

Edited

She’s spoken about her devastating loss at 6months of her stillborn child. She’s spoken about her children.

If her terminations were the two tablets, I can imagine remembering whether there were 4 or 5 might slip her mind as it’s really not that big a deal. “Oh shit, I’m pregnant; oh good, I’ve taken the pill to end it.”

For many women ending an early pregnancy is a no brainer. Not wanting a child at 19 from a casual encounter is a world away from deciding at 29 to have a child with your partner or spouse. The former doesn’t preclude the latter.

Abortion isn’t immoral or something to be ashamed about; Lily Allen discussing her abortions isn’t immoral or something to be ashamed about. As for responsibilities – what could be more responsible than aborting an unwanted pregnancy? No, smart alecks, the answer isn’t “contraception” – that’s what you do to prevent the pregnancy. Once you’re pregnant and don’t want to be, abortion is a responsible choice. (A choice, not the only choice, let women do whatever they want with their bodies including talking about those choices without judgement.)

Good. The interests of the potential child don't seem to be on your radar at all.

Great for you to have that rule for yourself.

Not appropriate to impose it on others.

Well obviously it never will be imposed on others in the UK due to the political culture here. I do want restrictive abortion laws but it'll never happen here at all.

Yes. Forcing a woman to carry to term and give birth is always worse. Do you really think forced birth should be used as punishment for carelessness?

When it's born. In practice that stance makes no difference and you have but to look at other countries to see what giving personhood to the unborn does. Unless you enjoy seeing women jailed for having a miscarriage?

Not for having a miscarriage no as its unintentional and unfortunate to happen. Most miscarriages are not preventable and are not caused by anything the pregnant person did or didn't do.

But the 100 small babies sorry fetuses that have their lives cut so short? At what point in utero does the fetus have any value whatsoever?

I am unable to quantify or define an exact point where I say it's not ok here to have a termination. I will always struggle with that.

I however don't feel anything at all about 5 abortions she had meaning 5 lives cut short. What is this obsession with life proliferating at any cost? No way. Some lives should not be created.

Wasn't she an admitted recreational drug user, heavy into drink at one point? No judgement at all btw. ( I need to fact check this). So a baby, unwanted, born into these conditions?

No. Life at all costs, absolutely not.

JoyDivision79 · 05/07/2025 01:17

My thoughts are simply; thank goodness those abortions took place as opposed to 4 to 5 unwanted children living in this mess. Some lives really aren't worth living, especially when you look at the odds now and the state of public services, including care provision.

And I really can't quantity at which stage it's too far and I'm uncomfortable about it. I will simply assume these abortions were at a stage where I'm not feeling uncomfortable and it's all a bit meh.

Personally, if it was me, I think there would be some emotional fall out from 4 to 5 abortions. I don't know what. I feel it is potentially quite intrusive, still shrouded in shame by many and I personally feel that unprotected sex on the regular isn't great for the female soul ( it wouldn't be for me).

Gddfava · 05/07/2025 01:13

I couldn’t care less if a woman had 100 abortions - her body is not my business.

But does appear she does not understand how contraception works.
