To avoid Muslim friend

cumbriaisbest · 30/06/2025 17:48

I can't stand listenting to it any more.Tatbir, Gaza and so on. Unrelenting pain.
In addition.....
Where do I go when I die ( as a non believer?)
Where will my gay son go?

I say this as somebody who has worked in community projects and is passionately against racism.

YANBU OP. I have distanced myself from a Muslim friend of over 10 years. It’s a shame but I got bored of the lectures and “education”. Sometimes you just want to talk about general shite you know? I don’t want to talk about Gaza, culture, racism etc constantly.

I think that's it, exactly.

Ok, Thanks. It's not a pic and mix religion is it?

Not usually no.

nomas · 30/06/2025 19:08

As a practicing Muslim who observes (no alcohol, only eats halal, does charity etc), I have plenty of gay friends and colleagues.

It’s not for me to judge.

Of course. It's not for you to judge but the religion clearly says it's sinful.

Xcfsacs · 30/06/2025 19:00

Of course it doesn't. It clearly says it's sinful. Most Muslims don't too and fro with it and stick to their beliefs.

No it's not, it's a hot bothered person trying to untangle some stuff.

Islam does not favour gay people I think?

@cumbriaisbest Where do I go when I die ( as a non believer?)
Where will my gay son go?

You are not a Muslim, so what does it matter what your Muslim friend thinks? It seems maybe you are wanting to provoke 'something' by wanting to know what your friend thinks, so yes, YABU. The only important think is where do YOU think you go when you die? Where do YOU think your gay son will go? Indeed, do you actually want to 'go' anywhere when you're dead?

Plus, as you 'can't stand listening to her it anymore', I am questioning your validity as a 'friend'.

If Islam is the true religion. You'll do to hell as a non-believer. So will your DS.

Tatbir is a shia thing?

Thank You.
It was being done locally, in the NW.

NO NO NO.

I am struggling with a friendship and aspects of the faith.

Thanks

I think you'll find many religions will be similar.
You don't have to be friends with anyone you don't particularly like. Do you want us to give you permission? If so, why?

FOJN · 30/06/2025 18:44

If you no longer enjoy this person's company because they insist on starting conversations you find offensive or uncomfortable you can stop spending time with them, you do not need the internet's permission.

Zanina · 30/06/2025 18:43

Why are you so bothered about what islam supposedly says about gay people and what ever else you have a problem with? Mind your own business and get on with your life

My Muslim friends don't say any of these things. You are not struggling with 'aspects of the faith' but with aspects of your friends behaviour. If your friend is homophobic then that's reason enough to avoid her without all the flim flam about struggling with Islam. My Muslim friends are not homophobic either.

Oh and just to say not " bored" utterly horrified, and deeply saddened. And had expressed this and was ignored.

Sorry a very unclear opening.Friend has not been offensive but I can never get an answer to these questions which trouble me.

Why do you care what her answer is? If you don’t share her beliefs then you can worry about or be happy about whatever afterlife you want to believe in. Or none.

So, if I understand you correctly your friend isn't trying to force her beliefs on you ? Or even sharing them with you . It sounds like you are asking questions and anticipating the answers she will give will offend you .

I avoid anyone who is deeply religious

Maybe this is it.

OP posts:
ColdTofuSandwich · 30/06/2025 18:15

I avoid anyone who is deeply religious. I have met far more religious hypocrites than non believers.

It gives people an excuse for their actions or the actions of others against them - apparently removing free will.

Meadowfinch · 30/06/2025 18:12

The same with any relationship. If it is causing you grief, you go low contact, or eventually NC.

I stopped seeing my dad because he was racist, homophobic and bigoted. But it doesn't matter why, you can end a relationship for any reason you like.

And I suggest you do. Homophobia is small minded, ignorant, cruel and unacceptable regardless of religion.

Find yourself some better educated, kinder friends.

Dangermoo · 30/06/2025 18:11

ButteredRadish · 30/06/2025 18:02

What exactly are you hoping to achieve from this thread, OP? A load of posters agreeing with your Islamophobia?

That was predictable.
