I can't stand listenting to it any more.Tatbir, Gaza and so on. Unrelenting pain.
In addition.....
Where do I go when I die ( as a non believer?)
Where will my gay son go?

I say this as somebody who has worked in community projects and is passionately against racism.

I think any Gay relationship is haram? I'm not looking for fun or clicks.

Would you consider it homophobic if someone believed that engaging in same sex sexual relations was a sin?

I'm not sure, if it was a private view then possibly no, and it wouldn't be my business.

But if they preached it and stated that gay people would go to eternal damnation, even if I did not believe such a place existed, I would consider that homophobic, yes, and cruel.

The Christians I know aren't homophobic. I have a relative who is a vicar and is not in the least homophobic. He's kind.

Not agreeing with islam isn't 'islamophobia'. 🫣

Why is not wanting to hear someone banging on about a misinformed opinion and thinking your child is internally damned Islamaphobic?

You haven’t read the OPs updates in which she acknowledges that the questions about the afterlife are ones she is pondering inside her own head, not ones that the friend has actually posed.

YANBU OP. I have distanced myself from a Muslim friend of over 10 years. It’s a shame but I got bored of the lectures and “education”. Sometimes you just want to talk about general shite you know? I don’t want to talk about Gaza, culture, racism etc constantly.

Gaza is so dull isn’t it. A real snooze fest. It’s just the same relentless killing every day. So dull

What exactly are you hoping to achieve from this thread, OP? A load of posters agreeing with your Islamophobia?

Rude!!

Christians get these kind of threads and I don't see the same posters having a problem with those. I knew as soon as I saw the thread title, how this would go.

I don't really understand your point, but I'd limit contact with anyone who pointed out how their religion would view aspects of my life. 🤔

Dangermoo · 30/06/2025 20:54

Morgenrot25 · 30/06/2025 20:45

Is the 'islamophobia' in the room with us? Not wanting opinions forced upon you isn't phobia. 🫣

Not all Muslims talk about Gaza, culture and racism.

We need to stop discussing Muslims as a monolith.

Do all Christians think and talk the same?

Eventually pretty much all christians want to talk about faith, made-up concepts like heaven/hell/sin, and so on. They're biblically called to evangelise.

Of course YANBU to distance yourself from someone like that. Religious folk can be religious if they choose, clearly, but she's overstepping boundaries.

I find most people are intolerant of other peoples religion except their own. People take great offence if you don’t share their views.

maybe try to understand why someone who cares about Palestine is likely to be upset at the world just now

I care, I am upset. Its hideous.

OP posts:
CopperWhite · 30/06/2025 19:44

The problem isn’t Islam it’s the way this particular woman feels the need to talk about her beliefs as if they were the most important thing in the room. None of the major religions are favourable towards homosexuality but plenty of religious people don’t let that interfere with their friendships or work relationships with people who have different views and beliefs.

Just stay away from the individual that you aren’t enjoying being around and maybe try to understand why someone who cares about Palestine is likely to be upset at the world just now.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/06/2025 19:31

I think you have to separate how your individual friend acts from the fact she is Muslim. No Muslim friends of mine - or even Muslim colleagues, acquaintances etc - act like this. In fact most Muslims I know seem to be afraid to mention Gaza. It’s like a pain you can’t mention in case you get hateful comments in response.

I’m not Muslim btw.

No more than I talk about Rule Brittania, the Pope, and black pudding.

Of course.

And because I have casual aquintances who are Muslim and have worked with Muslims, I am aware of this.

I only have one Muslim friend and she does so that’s my experience.

She wasn’t always like this and she’s a lovely person but the topic of conversation is always the same. Nobody else can get a word in edgeways.
