To say this weather is causing me to become depressed

I know it sounds like I’m some sort of misery reveller, after all long hot days are supposed to be what we all love, but I’m really, genuinely struggling.

I haven’t slept well for weeks due to the heat and neither have the children. Late nights and early wake ups. Stuffy bedrooms even with fans circulating,

During the day it’s so hot. When in work I feel like I’m slowly melting in stuffy classrooms with kids whining endlessly about water bottles and crackling ice. On my days off (I’m part time) it’s often overwhelming, especially in the middle of the day. Constantly worrying about the children burning - one insisted on standing outside yesterday just for the hell of it with no hat or sun cream and had to be dragged in forcefully. Everyone’s just irritable with one another, the car is like an oven when you get in it, flies, fucking FLIES.

And there’s this low level pressure to be out enjoying it. One of our soft play centres has actually put out an appeal just begging people to attend because the hot weather means it’s been empty for weeks.

I want autumn now. I want coolness and leaves turning and rain.

I think YABU generally because I prefer it to be like this than bloody cold and rain. Last year we had one solitary week of good weather in the summer.

LoveWine123 · 29/06/2025 06:58

I’d much rather be depressed by sun than by rain! That said, could you get an air conditioning unit? I think if it’s affecting your mood to this level, it will be worth the investment. The way the climate changes are going, you will be needing it every summer. Sorry to hear you are struggling so much x

I hear every word, and agree wholeheartedly.
I just can't do anything. My body feels like a heavy lump.of heaviness.

Horrible

Might I suggest moving to Scotland? We've had maybe one or two days at a time in the low 20s and then it's back to 18 degrees and raining. I couldn't cope with anything else!

chillinwithmygnomies · 29/06/2025 06:55

Move to south wales, the weathers shite here!

Supidupi3289 · 29/06/2025 06:53

You're not unreasonable to dislike the weather or to say how it affects you. But it's summer. It's hot. It'll be over and then it's back to rain and mild temps. It's not forever.

OneNewLeader · 29/06/2025 06:53

Sorry to hear that. It’ll pass.
