Selfish cannabis smokers wafting smell in home

Hdlll · 28/06/2025 21:33

Neighbour invited some friends or family over. They are in back yard smoking cannabis which is wafted into my bedroom. Got nothing else but to close window.

Never spoke to the neighbour since he moved in 8 years ago.

Exactly this

it is harmful

Alcohol is more harmful .

It's really important to inform yourself before making such statements please. Alcohol is a drug. As is cannabis. If alcohol was created now, it probably wouldn't be legalised. Both alcohol and cannabis are gateway drugs. Have you not heard of cannabis induced psychosis? Please be mindful.

Weed is usually for longer and more unpleasant a smell (at least to me. Makes me nauseous).

Smoking a joint takes longer than having a barbecue?

The chap that killed a little boy on his way to school with a sword was suffering from marijuana induced psychosis.

Im so sick of people arguing for it to be legalised when it affects other people.
I don’t want to breathe in other peoples drugs thanks.

I just made a similar comment to yours regarding that response. 👏

This is why it needs to be legalized. Since we legalized it here (I’m not in the UK) in 2012, I have barely noticed it. It’s no more harmful than alcohol so I don’t see why more places don’t legalize it.

To be clear. I dislike both barbecue smoke and weed smoke I’m not ‘cool’ at all !

They're not wafting it into your home on purpose. They're smoking in the garden and unfortunately the wind happens. It could be cigarettes, vaping, barbecued food, bonfire..

If it's a regular occurrence just politely say you've got asthma or something and could they smoke further away from your windows? I can't imagine they want to cause you annoyance or upset.

You say you've never spoken to them before. Is that through choice, or they seem horrible and scary? I'd try and approach them in a friendly way ideally.

A spliff that lasts longer than a BBQ?

Blimey, I wonder how many Rizlas they used 😁

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 29/06/2025 13:00

Whenever weed is mentioned you'll get people falling over themselves to sound as cool as possible, telling you to chill out and comparing it to cigarettes (or in this case, barbecues 🙄). It smells, the people who smoke it smell and they're usually insufferable too.

Lookuptotheskies · 29/06/2025 12:59

OP if you've not spoken to them in 8 years (how?!) and it was the guests smoking not the residents I'd leave it be. Yes I'd be annoyed but it's not all the time.

Lookuptotheskies · 29/06/2025 12:59

I have a household next door where both adults in the house smoke it. Sometimes they're out in the back garden every single hour of the day and late into the evening lighting up. It absolutely stinks so strongly it gives me a headache! 🤢😡

I don't want to breathe it in, and I don't want my kids breathing it in either. 😔

If you've a neighbour who smokes it they're stinking your house out a lot more often than a BBQ smell would bother you, and it lingers a lot longer!

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/06/2025 12:55

@EsmeSusanOgg someone said it smelled to them Like cat pee but to me it smells like dog poo

Hdlll · 29/06/2025 11:31

I have tried to talk to him and he doesn't respond.

the worst is smelling it when people are driving. I don’t really have any objection to people doing whatever they want at home but I really don’t think it’s a good thing to do when driving

Mermaidsarereal · 29/06/2025 11:24

It's so annoying, it absolutely stinks but it seems like 90% of the British population smokes it now! Keep your windows shut and fan on to keep cool.

EsmeSusanOgg · 29/06/2025 06:26

Same with barbecue smoke OP

LynetteScavo · 29/06/2025 06:16

I don’t mind the smell, but it is very potent and not something you’d want lingering on your curtains. Nicely have a word with your neighbours
tomorrow, OP, just to let them know and hopefully they’ll be more considerate in future.

Does legalising it get rid of its foul smell?

How?

I also live in a country where it's legalised. I rarely smell it as users have associations to smoke in, it's a social club where you can buy and consume so far less gathering in gardens

No but there is so much of it you become immune to the smell

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/06/2025 01:16

@Elbowpatch good question 🤣🤣🤣 this place is comedy gold at times
