Anyone else? I tuned in last night and couldn't believe how bad it was! 1975 was headlining and it was so middle or the road.

Maybe I'm getting old but the music was awful!!! So bland. Im early 40s 🤣

What are your thoughts?

The two things aren’t even vaguely similar

They are the same in the posters head.

I saw them circa around 1996 at the Maine Road stadium. They were alright - that's about the best I can say - but it was obvious they were a flash in the pan even then. The support band were better.

If I'd been given a choice this year between a ticket to Glastobury, Oasis or the Ozzy/Black Sabbath gig in Birmingham last weekend, I'd take the Ozzy one all day long.

Probs depends on what kind of music you are into also tbh- I cannot stand heavy metal and actively avoided Metallica when I was at the glasto they headlined. So the Ozzy gig would have been my idea of hell 😂

Well even though I don't like Oasis they definitely weren't a flash in the pan

But I'd love to have seen Ozzy!

Genuinely curious, what was so good about them?

But here we all are again wasting time on this sideshow when still today children were killed in Gaza. Children. Killed. Every day. That’s the story, that’s the issue, that’s what needs to stop

What do you mean "wasting time"? Are you suggesting that if we all stop discussing this, it would free up our time to bring peace to the middle east?!

ForWittyTealOP · 06/07/2025 19:57

Thegreyhound · 30/06/2025 16:51

Well there are Zionists working in the music business- they wrote to Glastonbury asking for Kneecap to be pulled. That’s fact.

And as we know, some Zionists are Jewish and some are not, just as some Jews are Zionists and some are not.

So a) the complaint about the letter was reasonable as the letter was really sent and did attempt censorship and b) that complaint is also not antisemitic.

From the river to the sea we have all done to death here and in real life over the last two years so if you want to believe that to be antisemitic that is up to you. Personally, I don’t.

But here we all are again wasting time on this sideshow when still today children were killed in Gaza. Children. Killed. Every day. That’s the story, that’s the issue, that’s what needs to stop.

The majority of Jews hold Zionist beliefs and the majority of Zionists are Jewish. Since Jewish people aren't stupid, we know that when Big Bob Vylan refers to Zionists, onstage and in his social media stuff, he's actually using a really really clever Secret Code which he fondly imagined disguises his racism.
Anyway, he's a silly little man marching around stage in his knickers like Boris Johnson going for a jog, and I doubt the Palestinians would be interested in his bandwagon jumping.

While I'm here, there was an article in the paper this week on the plight of Tigrayan Eritrean women which was so painful to read I immediately set up a monthly direct debit to contribute. Not a fashionable cause I realise, but if anyone is interested, the link is here.

@ConnieHeartI like their songs, and have done since I was 11 (I’m nearly 40!), so that helps. Liam’s vocals were really good. Honestly, I was impressed. They just sounded really, really good. Much better than I was expecting, especially after a 20 year break.

That's my reason I don't like them, I've never liked their songs & I really don't think Liam has any stage presence. But as I said I don't mind their stuff away from Oasis, I can appreciate Noel's talent and I think they are both v funny when interviewed. I think they've both definitely mellowed with age

Sorry to be controversial, but I saw Oasis last night, and they were absolutely brilliant. I was honestly shocked at how good they were last night! Liam wasn’t an arsehole either, which I was also shocked about! 😂

It's not controversial. It's just not having music snobbery!

(Download had Vengaboys doing a side gig this year...it was rammed; there's no 'should' / 'should not' about which bands perform at festivals. Just because a band / performer isn't to your taste, doesn't mean they shouldn't be there!)

I'm sure they would have loved to have them and it would have been iconic. But presumably they didnt want to do it. They are not having the concerts televised and it would have damaged the big sell of their reunion to perform at Glastonbury just the week before the concerts start.

ArtfulGoldWriter · 06/07/2025 10:23

ConnieHeart · 06/07/2025 09:48

Totally agree. Glastonbury didn't need them. I've always hated Oasis, I see no appeal whatsoever in a man with no stage presence standing with his hands behind his back growling into a microphone. I don't mind the stuff they've done separately but I'd rather cut off my own ear than see them live

Same - and to see them on a tour which they have also totally said is a massive money grab! Absolute tossers!!

ConnieHeart · 06/07/2025 09:48

ArtfulGoldWriter · 06/07/2025 05:18

MEH- why? They had a much better and varied bunch of headliners at Glasto- the Maccabees headlining the Park stage on the Sunday was incredible- brilliant band. Olivia Rodrigo was fantastic, Prodigy were also incredible. Scissor sisters totally owned the Woodsies stage as headliners too. Doechii was amazing on the west holts as was Self esteem on the park.

So much newer good stuff out there to avoid a pair of over rated karaoke singers! I have seen both Liam and Noel separately at Glasto in recent times- Liam is SO nasally and Noel just shit talks about everyone else. Overhyped and over rated band.

They should have got Oasis to play at Glastonbury.

I'm sure the Eavis's think the fence coming down is all jolly good fun. Not so much fun for the ticket holders who risk being trampled when the crowds are too big. Old glastonbury was a shit hole.

Anyway, I loved Charli. She was partly miming and shaking her behind but she led a fantastic party on that stage. If Fatboy Slim, Calvin Harris etc can headline and mix other people's music then I don't see why Charli can't perform over a backing tape. I won't hear a word against her.

It really wasn't shit, unless you class seeing Bowie as shit! The fact is it just wasn't as commercialised and with that came the scrutiny from Daily Mail Readers. I get that they were forced to erect it for safety reasons but Glastonbury was definitely better pre 2000,nit was alternative music and loads of other smaller acts that were intriguing. Equally, it was mainly young people as they could afford the tickets or didn't buy them so you wouldn't have the shock over people thinking in a different way.

Yes of course it makes a difference. There's an obvious difference in kind between calling for the 4th most powerful military force in the world to be defeated by a festival audience and inciting people to burn to death vulnerable adults and children in a refugee hostel.

Oh he didn't call for the idf to be 'defeated' he shouted 'death death to the IDF'. Also, previous footage now shows this crap rapper has a penchant for shrieking 'death death', at one gig he said death to every idf solider and another 'the only good pc is a dead pc' or similar. Nice chap.

But Lucy Connolly was or do you agree she shouldn't have been?

The problem is the police and the cps tbh, they need to make their minds up what constitutes a crime regarding comments and what doesn't. Maybe it depends on who the target is?

Blessed are the peacemakers, the humble and pure of heart for they shall inherit the earth. Met a Christian baptist lay preacher who was recycling today that helps to run the Christian tent at the top of the Pyramid Stage. A lovely man who sees God all around and he looks like the snooker player Steve Davis who regularly djs here. He says God is to be found here but then if you are looking you can find Her everywhere.

But time to go home to my partner and reality and realise the glimpse of a better world that Glastonbury brings into sharp focus is more than just an illusion. Be kind to your neighbours , smile and help when you can and receive kindness in return and you will be more than rewarded, but if you are from the north you will be used to that already Its not what you have but what you do and the differences you made to folks on the way.

The greatest lesson my partner taught me was open your heart and let the love come in. I'm in the cult for sure and, thank god for the fallow year I want to embrace my inner bastard once again.Which will probably happen at Fleet motorway services, it nearly always does.

Its a funny old world and seeing this wonderful place go quiet and disappear into the dirt saddens me because in a way its a metaphor for life - we come from nothing burn brightly for mere moments in the scheme of things and then disappear which for a few decades after we have gone will be to be lost in the obscurity of time, barely remembered except in the hearts of those we touched or influenced on the way. The Brigadoon of Somerset as it were.

Or its just a lot of smug pretentious wankers mostly off their heads enjoying a few days away from the troubles of the world sanctimoniously thinking they have experienced something special or or profound.

As Bob Vylan aptly said all those years ago... the answer is blowing in the Vind. Probably

From The Guardian today: "It has since emerged that a month before the festival, vocalist Robinson-Foster made similar comments at Alexandra Palace, where the band were supporting Iggy Pop. He said on stage: “Death to every single IDF soldier out there, as an agent of terror for Israel. Death to the IDF.”
I think that makes his meaning explicit.

Edited

I would 100% not be ok with that as statement if that is correct.
