AIBU to cringe now at The Osbournes?

Just started rewatching The Osbournes from the beginning and my god! Maybe it’s because I’m a lot older now but I see it so differently - I used to think it was funny and their house was amazing etc - now as I rewatch - Sharon and the kids were so cringy, constantly going on about money and how much stuff costs. The episode with the neighbours where Sharon is shouting “silly little British white boy” over the fence - I had second hand embarrassment for her! She sounded so silly! They must have been laughing their heads off at her.
“Living off daddy’s money” - I so wish they’d have thrown that back at her regarding living off her husbands money!

Also watching back - the house was an absolute tip! Every surface was full of clutter and mess, everything stained - I mean, I’m not house proud either but Christ - a million dogs shitting and pissing all over the floor, rugs, sodas, beds - the house must have stank.

I love Ozzy - and he’s the only one that comes across well in it. Don’t even get me started on the Courtney love stuff.

Anyone else rewatched it and see it differently? What did you think of it first time you watched it?

Showing your internal misogyny there OP. Sharon Osborne made their money, not Ozzy. Does he come across like a savvy earner or spender to you ?

She's known as a completely hard headed business person in the music industry. They're not nice people or well functioning people but Sharon Osborne made her money, she doesn't live off her husband.

You do realise, that at that time, not only was she Ozzy’s manager, but she managed several other big name acts as well? She wasn’t some woman shopping all day and having her nails done solely on her DH’s dime.

ETA - honestly, if she wasn’t managing him, there would have been no money coming in from his end either, he wouldn’t have made any at that point without her ensuring he did so. So, really question her living off her DH’s money aspect without doing anything to enable that aspect!

I still remember a Kerrang Pandora strip when one of his solo albums came out years ago. He’s saying ‘I’m not the anti christ or the iron man.’ She says ‘who are you then’ and he says ‘fucked if I can remember’ Grin

“Ozzy, pull that face … no not that one, the other one …”

ozzy - “I’ve only got one fucking face” 😂

It was dirty the first time.

Rockabybabyboat · 27/06/2025 21:24

I remember watching it and finding it hilarious that Ozzy would shout at the kids for drinking his alcohol for Sharron to remind him he drank it.. Wasn't until a friend pointed out he was a alcoholic that I realised my dad was one and I just had a wildly skewed prospective of drinking.

Ill be honest though to this day I have a soft spot for Ozzy.

neverbeenskiing · 27/06/2025 21:24

Surprised at all the love for Ozzy, a man who was charged with attempted murder after strangling his wife and later described it in a documentary as "not one of my greatest achievements" 🙄

I think any reality TV from 20 years ago is going to have aged badly to be honest.

I don’t think it has ‘aged badly’ though, they were never supposed to be seen as aspirational, were they? They were always portrayed as dysfunctional and unpleasant.

In fairness @AnotherBrickInshe is absolutely the reason he (and she) became a millionaire and remained one.

She launched and managed his solo career - before she did this he was fired, broke and drinking himself senseless.

I’m not a massive fan of hers but she’s a very savvy businessman and it would be wrong to describe her as living off his money.

Yeah a ham thing got thrown by Sharon, ozzy threw a big wooden log thing over, Jack was chucking all sorts across - pots, pans, food … it was ridiculous

Courtney Love turned up as one of Jack’s “friends”. He was 16 - she was in her 30s I believe. It was very inappropriate - especially considering her lifestyle at the time (which I realise wasn’t dissimilar to Ozzy’s.

Oh, wow, I didn't know that. I always liked Courtney but that's just wrong. Ugh.

Pingiop · 27/06/2025 21:04

I watched it when I was younger but understood early on they are just a really trashy family, uneducated bratty kids and entitled. I kind of wish they would disappear. KO is the worst, complained for years about the way she looked then ended up having all that plastic surgery to look like another clone. Weight loss doesn’t change a jawline. Bunch of talentless nobodies apart from Ozzy of course.

I never watched it the first time round but DD17 and I have just started watching it and we think it’s hilarious.

I saw bits of it back then and thought it was shit. I remember Sharon throwing a ham over the hedge to next door... Or was that just a spectacular dream?

What was the Courtney Love stuff?

I didn’t like it the first time round but my boyfriend at the time did. We were about 17 I think. I didn’t mind Ozzy and Jack too much but Sharon and Kelly were and still are (in Sharon’s case at least) just horrible people. And you’re right OP their house was minging from all the literal shit everywhere.

Aw I think you’re being harsh I think they’re brilliant! I just wish that Sharon and Kelly would have realised they looked amazing as they were.

LevelUpDown · 27/06/2025 20:40

I just saw their prices for meets, photos and autographs at an upcoming Comic Con. Fucking hell!!!!!

wokemeupagain · 27/06/2025 20:39

I love the osbournes, ive just re watched it and now watching the basement tapes! my house was very much the same growing up bar the animals as my mum never liked pets lol dad was a musician (not famous lol) partying and bringing everyone back to ours was something we did too! im around the same age as Jack and kelly and couldn't imagine letting me kids do what I was allowed back then lol

GCDPAF · 27/06/2025 20:21

They've always been cringy attention seekers. They are the ones that had the massive drawer of chocolate bars, aren’t they?

SilenceInside · 27/06/2025 20:19

I voted YABU because it was cringy the first time round. I thought that was part of the appeal, being able to gawk at the bizarre rich people!

ChoccyJules · 27/06/2025 20:15

I remember being interested as it truly was a glimpse into how the rich live, but even now I just remember all the dog poop everywhere. Awful.

Coolasfeck · 27/06/2025 19:49

It was terrible at the time and Ozzy was the only one even remotely likeable.

From the start Sharon came across as nasty and spiteful, a person who will immediately go for the low blow in any disagreement. A ‘tell it like it is’ type. Not one redeeming feature. I was surprised she was hyped up to be a celebrity in her own right.
