BlackBean2023 · 27/06/2025 15:48

Just today.

I’ll go first:

a critical analysis of a report I’ve written for work
a shopping list for a bbq tomorrow
To suggest planting ideas in the garden

OP posts:

Air conditioning units.
Long wheel Base vans available locally.
Genetic bottle necks and mpv size.
AI is great, I don't need to talk to people anymore.

Nothing intentionally, but Google does automatically use AI in search results. I wish I could turn this feature off as a. It doesn't always give acute information and b) AI serves uses way more electricity then a regular one and this is terribly damaging to the environment.

DH isn't allowed to use it for work as the company want to protect their IP and don't feel its secure enough. I don't need to use it for work so no use there either. It maybe be able to do my job one day when we have fully autonomous robots, but I'm safe until then.

Switch to ecosia, it does the same as google but you can easily switch off the AI, and it runs a tree planting programme

WingSlutz · 27/06/2025 18:32

Wrote a bio for a presentation I’ll be giving next week.

BeachPossum · 27/06/2025 18:32

Nothing. I don't outsource my brain for simple tasks which I can complete myself without fucking up the environment.

doodleschnoodle · 27/06/2025 18:31

Packing list for our hols!

BorgQueen · 27/06/2025 18:30

Absolutely nothing, I prefer to use my brain.
Jesus, imagine outsourcing your thinking to a computer and being proud of it.

yetanotherusername9183837 · 27/06/2025 18:25

I've asked it to do work stuff for me - I don't then copy and paste what it gives me but it is useful inspiration to start from.

I've asked it for local cafes my teenage daughter can apply for jobs at.

I asked it if the place we are going on holiday is nice, and what are the best local beaches and restaurants.

Dweetfidilove · 27/06/2025 18:25

With the exception of AI on a Google search (annoying), I never use it.

StupidDeaths · 27/06/2025 18:22

I don’t use it much, sometimes for coding R at work. But today on my walk to school I took a close up photo of a fruit tree and asked chat gpt what it was and whether I could eat it. It told me it was a cherry plum tree and I could. But I did then put that into Google to look at some more photos to make 100% sure! We tried a couple on the way back home.

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/06/2025 18:22

My brother is moving my niece to London tomorrow - she's working for a blue chip company for her year in industry as part of her business degree.

I created a picture of my brother and sister-in-law driving an overloaded truck like the Beverley Hillbillies to send to them with the caption "This is what I envisaged".

FrodoTheBlueWhippet · 27/06/2025 18:20

Nothing. I've never intentionally used it. I've never felt the need.

TwinkleToes2222 · 27/06/2025 18:20

FizzySherbet · 27/06/2025 18:13

A portrait of my cat 😆

That photo is a bit creepy and doesn't feel right. Was it made by AI from some other photos?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 27/06/2025 18:19

Writing a email to the head teacher requesting my son be separated from a child that has repeatedly hurt him this year.

It’s a email I shouldn’t have had to send.

CandyLeBonBon · 27/06/2025 18:19

To help me write my pdr so I can show how my contribution to the business can be defined in financial terms

Just couldn’t get started. So gave it some bullet points and it added some other relevant points, and expanded the wording into better English.
I did make some slight tweaks, but that’s much easier than when you are starting with a blank page.

i gave it, payroll analyst, experience with x system, requirements gathering, stakeholder mgt etc etc

OK, this feels like a successful use case: feeding specific information into a generic prose "template".

"and then run through them yourself to check for errors/change the tone to your liking etc."

This being the key, of course. In reality most people aren't doing that. Most people using AI to write their reports don't know what they are doing, don't know how to use it and definately don't check the output.

Yes that’s as idiotic as good old fashioned plagiarism.

For anyone with a grain of sense about them, AI is an amazingly useful tool. I do see a lot of posts on Mumsnet saying “I can spot AI a mile away”, but the vast majority of people really can’t, when it’s been used well. There are posts on this thread that clearly show the poster is not actually familiar with using AI, but they are apparently able to spot it “a mile off”

Aye right.

Lavendersong · 27/06/2025 18:14

AI is very useful
My Dad uses it all the time now I’ve introduced Gemini to him and the AI on WhatsApp. I do have ChatGPT but get by fine with other 2

Interesting I think you’re talking about the data centres. My husband is working on a way to use the energy produced by the data centres to heat homes.

Humans are incredible!

Lavendersong · 27/06/2025 18:13

Nothing today but I used it recently to convert inches to cm for a bag to use on a flight and to find out the exact time the US sent missiles to Iran in case travel insurance was affected. Made me realise always start annual travel insurance 2 weeks before actual travel date not day before bevause airspace and terrorist cover starts 2 weeks before actual travel date

TheSwarm · 27/06/2025 18:13

howcanistayhinged · 27/06/2025 18:11

That’s a result of idiots using AI as far as I’m concerned. If you write good prompts and know your field you can use AI to structure responses and then run through them yourself to check for errors/change the tone to your liking etc.

AI is incredibly useful for people who know what they’re talking about and know how to use it.

Of course it’s not capable of making an idiot sound like they know what they’re doing and anyone stupid enough to claim complete ownership of an AI response is definitely an idiot.

AI is a useful tool.

"and then run through them yourself to check for errors/change the tone to your liking etc."

Nothing

ErnestClementine · 27/06/2025 18:11

To summarise a few different things for work (for me to then check and edit). Made a 2 hour job a 15.minute job.

Used the time saved to find an ex old friend with no online presence. I put in everything I knew about them... and it couldn't find them either 😅

MasterBeth · 27/06/2025 18:11

howcanistayhinged · 27/06/2025 18:07

Not my experience with Claude whatsoever. Even free AI is available that doesn’t work like this. There absolutely is AI that can do what you’re looking for and would not be identifiable as AI.

You're very confident that AI can do what I do considering you don't know what I do.

TheSwarm · 27/06/2025 18:11

mondaytosunday · 27/06/2025 18:07

Oh so naive people!
I can guarantee that as you are all on your phones you will have used AI today.
Taken a photo? AI is used to focus and to get best lighting etc.
Done a Google (or other) search? AI
Asked Siri or Alexa? AI
Checked your weather app? AI
Looked at your news feed? AI
Online shopping? Navigation? Facebook/Instagram?
Netflix? Your health app (like step count)?
Email? Online banking? All use AI technology.
Driven your car? Unless very old model it uses AI. Sent a letter or parcel? It’s AI that reads and converts the addresses for routing.
Called customer service? AI is routing your call.
And of course AI is used in farming, logistics, shop stock monitoring, medicine, investments…
And of course, Mumsnet uses AI for data analysis.

Which wasn't the question, being asked, of course.

It was whether people were purposefully using AI models in place of traditional googling etc.
