New colleague staring at my cleavage- is this my fault ?

I sometimes wear tops that show some cleavage. It’s hard to avoid in most tops that aren’t super high cut.

I notice men sometimes look. But today in a meeting, a man did not stop staring.

his gaze was fixed the entire time he was talking to me. It was extremely uncomfortable.

I somehow feel it’s my fault this happened. But I really love this top and I don’t think it’s obscene. I find it hard to avoid showing some cleavage, especially in summer. It just suits my shape somehow.

I’ll post a pic of the top if it will let me.

Is that inappropriate for work?

Yes.
I wouldn't have that much out even on a night out.

Yes

Well Simon goes to work on international television and it seems to be ok. I find that more ugly that a woman’s cleavage actually. It’s just seems to be normal for a woman but a man flaunting hard nipples is very off putting to me. Breasts are so much prettier than a man’s hard nipples in a tight tee shirt. And I’m not gay at all.

I get that people give it a two second look sometimes, that’s natural. This guy was just staring for ages though.

Is it possible he had just zoned out. I’ve done that before (not looking at clevage) and been asked why I’m staring at xyz

I don’t think we need to see the top to know he’s a sleaze who should not be behaving this way. Jeezo, is this really where we still are in 2025, he should be ashamed of himself. Can you speak to his manager to have a word? Or HR if you have an HR dept?

To play devils advocate here…where is your proof to take to HR?

Surely you need evidence of something and unfortunately I don’t think you have much.

FWIW though it’s creepy AF when a man does this.

😂

My apologises 🤣

holamuchgusto · 27/06/2025 00:41

@dtarer
I would say that unfortunately it probably is too low cut for work without wearing a vest or top underneath it. That being said, it doesn't give that man the right to stare and make you uncomfortable. So I would firstly report to your line manager and secondly just pop a vest on for work to provide more coverage and prevent this happening.

Devianinc · 27/06/2025 00:37

Moomdingou · 27/06/2025 00:31

🤣🤣🤣 ok, because you said it, it must be true then. Do you realise that men do wear thin tops? And not everyone wears a shirt to work? I wear scrubs for some parts of my job and you can see my nipples along with other men’s nipples. Denying you can never see men’s nipples through their clothes is frankly ridiculous. But here is SC at his work event to prove my point.

Yeah, ewww

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 27/06/2025 00:07

Except they don't. A man would have to be wearing something very thin or sheer and they don't.

But men don’t wear under shirts anymore. I just think that no ones really looking at a man’s nopples unless they’re gay and there’s nothing wrong with that. But a body is a body. Some better than others. It doesn’t matter. Wear what ever you want as long as you’re not naked and flashing people. That’s a crime. Dressing how you want isn’t.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 27/06/2025 00:07

Moomdingou · 26/06/2025 22:22

And that has is relevant how? Nipples show through shirts from both men and women. Get over it.

Except they don't. A man would have to be wearing something very thin or sheer and they don't.

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 27/06/2025 00:01

Nice top! Honestly the amount of guys going around topless atm and we are expected to cover ourselves up - ridiculous! It looks nice, the guy was a creep!

Probably wrong but what a weird reply....

A bit dis-and-dat...

i dont think cleavages are suitable at work

Which is why all women should be locked away in cellars, just like you want them to to be, you vile poltroon.

I agree. Not businesslike or professsional, any more than a man with his shirt unbuttoned down to his chest would be.

MetalliCat89 · 26/06/2025 23:53

Tbf I think you're getting a bit of stick. You haven't actually said what your job is....my 1st job was a bar job and that kind of top would have been perfectly acceptable. In an office probably not. As a larger breasted woman I tend to go for a scoop neck or a lesser v neck, the top you have shown is a plunging neckline. For office wear I'd suggest either a cami underneath or a v neck that goes no lower than 3 inches below the collarbone, but thay does of course depend on the look you are going for. Either way you should feel comfortable and men should have the willpower to not stare!
But playing devils advocate there is nothing wrong with either covering more or showing more; it's all up to you in the end.
Ask yourself if Dana Scully would wear it 🤣 because she always looked good as well as professional.

That isn't OP though. It's just some rando model with an ample figure which apparently is nothing like the OP's.

You're going to ask why she posted the photo in that case but that's above my pay grade.

No, I’m not going to ask you that but I still wish I looked like that in a top or blouse.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 26/06/2025 23:46

dtarer · 26/06/2025 19:51

why is the top unsuitable ? Is it too low cut ?

The first top is horrible. Is there any point in wearing that if you don't want people to look at your cleavage?

I love clothes - I love getting compliments on my clothes and I like my clothes being noticed but I want my clothes to be noticed, not my breasts.

FutureCatMum · 26/06/2025 23:44

Well this thread is interesting! The top isn’t suitable for work. But looks lovely for a night out. I have a similar figure and would never wear anything that revealing at work.
But it’s not easy to look modest and professional when you have a large bust.

NorthXNorthWest · 26/06/2025 23:40

JayJayj · 26/06/2025 22:20

So many strange women commenting.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in that top.
I don’t understand why so many seem to think cleavage is a bad thing to see!!!

Fuck my life! Sometimes it feels like we as a society are getting worse not better.

You could have been wearing a see through bikini and he shouldn’t have been staring.

In a bar or other such environment no big deal. In a professional setting there is no context in which having your chest on show to the level of the photo the OP shared is acceptable. Save it for Tinder.

The OP shared that specific photo to give the impression that it was her to provoke a response. She clearly has form for attention seeking behaviour.

bigfacthunter · 26/06/2025 23:28

hes a pig, your top is fine.

if you cover up there will be another man that stares at something else. I used to date a guy with a tights fetish, anything nylon drove him wild. Another friends partner was absolutely obsessed with knee length skirts (the possibility of them swishing up and revealing thigh apparently). I know someone else with a foot fetish too! Ah and now I think of it I remember a really creepy dude at work who always commented suggestively on my adidas trackie bottoms 🥴 Women’s bodies are just so heavily sexualised, there’s no safe piece of clothing,

Cover up your tits and it’ll be just some other creep brazenly staring at some other part of you. Wear what you feel good in and The unified response from all decent people must always be: don’t fucking stare at people.

BunnyLake · 26/06/2025 23:21

DilemmaDelilah · 26/06/2025 19:49

If you are a lady of bounteous curves generally, or generously endowed in the bosom department, it can be difficult not to have a cleavage if a top is anything other than right up to the neck. Just saying.

Not true. I’m 36GG and never show cleavage (never have even when younger and perter) and I’m not wearing tops up to my chin. A not too low scooped or square neckline covers just fine. I find too much cleavage a bit too either barmaid/serving wench or matron for my style taste.

MaidOfSteel · 26/06/2025 23:20

That’s a going out top, not really a work one. Wear tops that show off your cleavage and men are going to look. Some are going to stare. Yes, it shouldn’t be that way, but it is.

I’m well endowed and have plenty of scoop and v-neck tops which don’t show any cleavage but aren’t up to my chin. I don’t want to feel uncomfortable or objectified, so I find these a happy medium.
