To think eyeing up people's food is beyond rude?

My uncle will hoover his lunch and then stare at your plate like a hawk, and say stuff like "are you going to eat that roast potato?" Or he'll be looking at your packet of crisps and say "they look nice....". All the time eyeballs on the packet.

He actually made his 6 year old son cry at lunch on Sunday, we were out for a roast, and nephew was taking his toe , went to the loo,and whilst he was gone took his Yorkshire pudding (yes, I questioned it before he ate it and uncles response was "well, he's taking too long" and then he ate it. Nephew came back and was understandably upset.

it's fucking rude. Yes?

@ButteredRadishes Your uncle sounds like a repellant, vulgar individual ... I am picturing a 'Lee Anderson' type man 💩

Dillydollydingdong · 23/06/2025 19:15

What a pig!

Hope he gets fucking gout.

In both big toes and knees and all the fiery pain that goes with it 😫

Velmy · 23/06/2025 19:01

Call him a fat, greedy cunt next time.

OldMcDonaldHadABigMac · 23/06/2025 18:32

Just go yourself, I love eating in peace!

I was thinking that but I really dont want to look like a greedy bastard myself with my massive roast and then apple crumble 🤣

Flannelfeet · 23/06/2025 18:45

ButteredRadishes · 23/06/2025 18:39

I'd go on my own 🤣

I was seriously thinking about it, but I dont want to look like a greedy bastard myself 🤣

Fork stabbing is a thing.

Your uncle is a nasty greedy fuckwit stealing a kid's dessert. I wouldn't sit by for that.

Exactly this! He's a greedy obnoxious nitwit and would have deserved a good fork stabbing in the back of the hand. Why on earth did you let him steal a child's food? Everyone knows that a good Yorkshire is the best part of a roast dinner.

I would of murdered the uncle on the spot, but then im seriously pissed off at my husband right now as we are on our last day in milton keynes and were to go to wolverton house for a carvery and he isn't feeling well, im so sad and I can't even find anywhere on deliveroo that can deliver me one. Gutted to say the least. 😔

I'd go on my own 🤣

Next time book some where that is All you can Eat. Or a carvery with unlimited veg.
I bet he hoovers up everything.
I hate behaviour like his. It gives me the rage when someone asks for a crisp, takes a handful ,then laughs.

ScottBakula · 23/06/2025 18:15

That's horrible behaviour, eyeing up other people's food or pestering for it is rude but stealing food of a child's plate it really really despicable.
Next time you all go out especially if it's a big get together I'd be very tempted to wait untill everyone has finished eating then scrape any leftovers on to his plate , bones , gristle, lumpy mash , cold veg, salad, curry the whole fecking lot, and it would be dumped on his plate with no attempt to 'arrange' it

It's like vultures circling sometimes.

I got so pissed off with him once, I just gave him my late if food, and pushed all the serving dishes and told him to fuck off trying to eat my food for me. And I left the house and brought back fish and chips.

He still came after my chips!!!

He has no shame.

Some people must have been dragged up - this behaviour seems horribly common

Soubriquet · 23/06/2025 18:03

I hate people like this. My dad used to be the same. Even if I offered him a bite he would say “I’ll have a nibble” and then take 3/4 of it. Used to infuriate me

LadyKenya · 23/06/2025 18:01

It sounds like he has issues around food, surely it has been pointed out to him, that his behaviour is not acceptable.

Owt · 23/06/2025 17:58

My ex husband was obsessed with food, it was all he ever thought about and he’d try and police what everyone else was eating too. He became morbidly obese.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 23/06/2025 17:58

It is somehow horribly repulsive. I remember eating out in the 70s (!) with a friend of my (then) fiancé and his wife. We went to a steak place and he told us he always took home any left over steak for his dog. But in fact when we we served, he was actually trying to lay claim to any left over steak for himself. Every time I put my knife and fork down he was right in my face - have you finished? Are you leaving that? My (now) ex thought it was funny, but I was truly repulsed by him. His wife did look embarrassed and I felt sorry for her - they split up not long after for other more serious reasons.

On a slightly different and lighter note, I never forgave my dad for the time when the phone rang while we were eating, and I answered it and talked to my friend for 10 minutes - and he gave my lamb chop to the dog! I often reminded him of it (to his amusement) but at least he didn't snaffle it for himself.

DiscoBob · 23/06/2025 17:51

I would be deadly serious and say

'if you don't stop staring at my food and trying to steal food from other's plates I'm not going to be able to eat with you anymore.'

And if he does it again I'd leave the table, with my food! And surely everyone else must feel the same so he'd end up sitting there on his own.

SparklyBrickViper · 23/06/2025 17:50

Repulsive.

LittlleMy · 23/06/2025 17:46

Not just rude but obnoxious and bullying to that poor son of his. To make his little boy cry as well 😡. I don’t have kids but I adore YP and often ask for two at a carvery and not kidding would be upset as a 50 year old if anyone thought it was okay t9 take mine as a full grown adult!

Someone needs to put him in his place and tell him that behaviour is problematic for many reasons and just not okay. Those kids needs someone to advocate for them!

PopThatBench · 23/06/2025 17:43

Oh my fucking god I hate this.
I have a family member who is like this with everything me and DP eat.
I’m mere weeks away from giving birth and the family member was desperately trying to get me to share my chocolate bar. It was 3pm and I hadn’t eaten all day so really needed sugar ASAP (we were doing baby prep and lost track of time).
I kid you not, “oh I haven’t had one of those in ages, they’re so nice, ooooo yummmm are going to eat it all now? I’m going to take that off you in a minute if you eat any slower! I’ll have to get myself one then from the shop. Can I have half of it?”
FUCK OFF.

mummysmagicmedicine · 23/06/2025 17:42

Sorry but if someone stole my Yorkshire pudding I would flip.

CrepuscularCritter · 23/06/2025 17:41

Was he a seagull in a former life?

I think my fork would be poised for defensive action.
