My local skip is a very busy place. There is often a huge queue of cars and once you are in the queue, you absolutely cannot leave, there is no way of driving out of it or turning around due to the way it's structured. You're going through the skip, and that's that.

Today, I was in the queue of doom and a worker walked along the line of cars and told everyone that they just needed to use the crusher before they could let anyone through and to do that, they needed to wait until the cars already parked up and using the skips, had all left, then they could use the crusher and start letting people in again. It was my lunchbreak so I was in a bit of a rush, but nothing I could do.

But watching the people already using the skip was so irritating. They knew there was a line of approximately 20-30 cars waiting, they knew no one else could enter until every car had gone, but they all sauntered back and forth with their stuff from their boots, they stopped and chatted to one another, one guy had a quick cigarette before getting in his car, another sat in the drivers seat and did something on his phone before slowly putting on his seatbelt and leaving...

I just cannot understand people who are so incredibly slow and insist on doing unnecessary things in busy places where people are clearly waiting to use the thing they are using.

The other day, a waitress bringing our food to out table stopped mid-way and chatted to a customer she knew, while holding our plates of food, letting them get cold - why? talk on the way back if you must!

And the amount of people I see letting their toddlers use their debit cards to pay while smiling indulgently as the kids drops the card or taps it wrong with a queue of people waiting, or who stand at the till transferring money, or ask the bus driver an endless series of questions with a whole busload of people waiting, plus the 50 cars behind the bus....

If you are one of these people who fuck about, why? and are you also irritated by the fucking about or am I just far too angry?

Our local tip (sorry, recycling centre) only allows cars - no foot passengers or cyclists. And is appointment only. Which is absolutely ridiculous considering they are also waging a war against using cars.

They also don't let any vans in as they claim vans are commercial use. Which is flipping stupid if you've hired a van to move and want to drop some stuff off at the tip (sorry, recycling centre) as part of the move. So, if you have a van you have to drive to the other side of the borough to use the big tip (sorry, recycling centre). Eejits.

We use several tips, in different council areas. Most do not allow vans as they are commercial. Salford are, or were brilliant. You just showed the van hire contract with your council tax bill as proof of address and a short term rent and you were allowed one drop off. I was thinking of setting up a website where people could rate and comment on recycling centres. I would call it 'Tip Advisor'.

I thought of this thread yesterday when I sat in a queue for a world heritage site (I was there for work, and in a rush). The level of pissing about from the eccentric older people in a bike/sidecar combo at the ticket booth sent my BP heavenwards.

i think it’s a type of entitlement and they find themselves hilarious.

Yes! Standing behind someone at a small newsagent/grocery shop and I have one or two items to quickly buy and they end up choosing a multitude of different lottery tickets, for different days! Ahhh, drives me mad as it’s not even a necessary purchase and a total waste of money!!!!

And they can now be easily purchased online on the national lottery website these days too

Just reading this thread is stressing me out! Mostly it’s the frustration and impatience that’s making me stressed!

So you’re stressed and frustrated because other people are stressed and frustrated lol

The stopping and flashing thing when I’ve already pulled in infuriates me. Every single day on my road this happens!

It’s even more weird when I put my indicator on to pull on my drive and I have to stop to let a driver coming the opposite way come past and instead of just driving past while I wait for the road to be clear, they stop and flash me to pull on to my drive! Yeah ok then you just sit there and wait then while I manoeuvre on to my drive, idiot! Even more stupid is when they actually pull in and flash me to go, yet where they have pulled in to is straight across my drive where I actually need to go! Just carry on driving instead of stopping FFS! 🙄

Infuriating. I raise you the parents at our school who hold up the line of kids into the playground in the morning by allowing just-mobile 18 month olds to bumble about and loiter in the very narrow gate with seconds to go until gate closing time, instead of ensuring they are out of the way and not holding anyone up.

Absolutely clueless. This is not the time to allow them to practice their walking, people! There'll be plenty of other opportunities, use them and have a thought for others.

The parents who stand in the line with their kids waiting for the teacher. Fuck off out of the way.

BunfightBetty · 25/06/2025 23:24

Saladleaves17 · 25/06/2025 23:02

My current pet hate is parents at nursery who insist on allowing their just walking toddlers to walk all the way from their parked cars, across the car park, up the step, though 2 secure doors (whilst trying to navigate the door threshold, often stumbling in the process) and along the corridor before finally getting to their rooms. And then do the same on the way out.

Yes it’s important to let your kids walk but there’s a time and place, and allowing them to hold up a whole car park of parents who just want to get to and from work is infuriating. Just pick the kid up and carry them across the car park/through the doors.

I dont think it's the walking slow that people are objecting to per se. We all know that some people can't walk fast.
It's the blatent dithering and faffing that's annoying and the complete lack of awareness or consideration.
The OP mentions someone standing by their car having a cigarette, people chatting, a guy sitting on his phone, holding up 20-30 cars!
That's not moving slowly for a medical reason. That's downright selfishness.

Edited

Agree, it’s not the speed of the walking but proceeding to take up the width of the whole pavement because they can’t walk in a straight line. You try to go round them and somehow they are in front of you again. Complete lack of awareness.

Saladleaves17 · 25/06/2025 22:33

Mumofnarnia · 23/06/2025 19:21

Yep this absolutely is one of my pet peeves. Along with those who do 25mph in a 30 zone and when it changes to 40mph, they speed up to 30! So they can see the signs and know they need to go faster, but still happy to tootle along under the speed limit with a long line of frustrated drivers behind them!

Another one is when you stop and pull in behind a parked car to let the driver coming the opposite way come through. And then after they see you stop, they also decide to stop, sit there and then flash you to go!!! Yeah thanks for the extra wear and tear on my gear box and clutch!! If I’d have known you was going to stop to let me through I wouldn’t have bothered stopping to let you through when you actually have the right of way and I don’t!!! Seriously don’t understand the mentality with drivers like that. If you have the right of way just fucking take it!! You might think you’re being ‘kind’ (by letting me through after I’ve already fucking stopped to let you go through) but you’re wasting my time!!! 😡

The stopping and flashing thing when I’ve already pulled in infuriates me. Every single day on my road this happens!

AgingLikeGazpacho · 25/06/2025 21:31

I'm quite quick to forgive a faffer who acknowledges their faffery and wholeheartedly apologises or acknowledges it...but definitely do daydream about cattle prodding the other inconsiderate/gormless feckers

People who somehow take up a whole pavement, ambling slowly really get on my tits - move to the side!

People who stop at the top of of stairs/escalators/in doorways/at junctions also rile me. Just make a fucking choice to go left or right, find a quiet spot and then make a decision about what you want to do next!

People who fuck around in train or plane aisles - sit down, let others pass, then arse around with your belongings (I also have a special spot in Hell for people who take up space in the luggage rack for their sodding coats when the stewards have repeatedly asked them to not stow coats there due to plane being fully booked and there not being enough space for everyone's carry on otherwise...you are delaying everyone because you don't know how to listen to instructions/not be a selfish arsehole)

Thanks OP that was cathartic

You're right, I'll vacate the pump and take up one of the few parking spaces for the shop instead before continuing my journey. That's much less selfish and much more efficient, right?

Yes!!! It bloody is!! Why are you so bloody-minded?

I don't care if you think I'm rude. There are worse things than rude and that is YOU. Selfish, entitled and arguing for the sake of it to defend the indefensible.

ThisOchreScroller · 25/06/2025 19:09

Sophiehoney · 25/06/2025 12:30

Stop being so selfish in thinking that a petrol station forecourt is a good place for you to stop for a drink while other people wait to actually use the pumps you are blocking. Theres a million other places you could pull over for a drink. The petrol station forecourt isn't one of them. They didn't design those spaces as your own private drinking area. They are for their customers to use.
Imagine thinking that one space where they can do that one thing they need to do should be yours for no reason other than because you want it. You're what my Nan calls "a dog in manger".

Exactly. There is this whole chain of places along motorways and A-roads with slip roads called "service stations" which sell fuel and also have parking spaces in which you can sit and sleep, take a moment, faff with a car seat or have a nap to your heart's content. And yes, one should stop there if they need to even if they have filled up with fuel.

I found driving in Chicago to be painfully slow but then I was mostly downtown.

For sure there are some bits that are congested, but then others that are flat out.

It’s also very time dependent.

It was kinda nice but don’t tell anyone😉.

On the topic of this thread my trip involved a 4 hour drive through Chicago, now there’s a place where people don’t fuck around. I don’t even know what the speed limit is supposed to be on that drive but if you’re not going 80+ mph you will be made aware of your error by all the other drivers.

My best drive was coming home. It was me and a BMW in the fast lane when a sheriff came up behind us, we both moved over (again at 80+) and watched as he started to push the semis/lorries out of the two fast lanes. Me and the BMW guy shrugged at each other and pulled back over into the fast lane.

For at least 30 minutes we kept a respectful distance and enjoyed a gloriously clear lane!

Presumably at midday on a Monday they are mainly pensioners with all the time in the world. Although you would think they might want to make the most of what's left rather than fannying around at the tip. Or for there to always be 2 queuing for air in the petrol station at 8am.

Are you kidding with that assessment of pensioners or being sarcastic? I can’t tell. I hope you’re being “funny”.

I got spoiled when I traveled one week a month to the same hotel for 4+ years. I would walk in the front door and the front desk staff would be waiting with my key 😁.

It always shocked me when I went to other hotels and I had to check in like a mere mortal. I agree though… all my info is in their system… why are you asking me for this information again!

I will give credit to my rental car company. If you’re in their program you walk straight to pick your car then drive to a booth where they scan the car, check to make sure you have a valid drivers license, and ask if you want to prepay fuel. Maybe 2 minutes.

Dropping off is even quicker… pull up, guy waiting who takes a visual of the car and records mileage and fuel level, asks if everything was ok, asks if you want to use the credit card on file, and finally asks if you want a paper receipt or email. All of this completed in the same time it takes to get your bag and stuff out of the car.

Ughhhh hate faffers and train idiots. Had this yesterday when a woman tried to tell me she had booked my seat on the train. Showed her my ticket and she faffed and faffed to get out her paper ticket, reading glasses, etc only to realise she was in the wrong carriage. Just wasting my life.. .

Checking into a hotel is also a massive bug bear of mine. The tap tapping away on a computer, printing stuff, more tapping and looking gormlessly at the screen when all they need to do is find my booking and give me my bloody key. AI needs to take this one over ASAP.

Checking out can also be annoying if you want to pay for something instead of just plopping your keys.
I was once stuck behind a couple who were trying to pay for their dinner from the night before. "I had the swordfish"
"we don't serve swordfish"
"Oh, it might have been catfish"
"we don't serve catfish"
Husband ambles over... "you had the monkfish"
Monkfish then!! it's the only fish on the menu!! couldn't someone have worked that out??
"Did you have a dessert?"
"I don't remember. Did you have a dessert, darling?"
"I did, you had the ice-cream"
"No, that was carol, Carol! you had the ice-cream, I didn't you? Oh I remember now, I had the cheesecake, it was the best I've had..."
and so on and so forth....

People fanny about it to a shocking degree.

The worst is train travel. If you have a seat reservation, it’s a simple system consisting of a carriage letter and a seat number. Yet people wander up and down the aisle, staring deeply at their ticket like it’s War and Peace, debating with the person their travelling with whether it’s the right seat - it has the right number and this is the right carriage, but is it the right seat?? It’s absolutely painful.

I remember it being a very tight time window between the singing bit at the end finishing, and my bus arriving, so I had stationed my buggy right by the door so I could plop DS in it and leave straight away. The there's this angry woman changing a shitty nappy on the floor in front of the door. Best laid plans! 😂

I am somewhat baffled that there are people here who wouldn’t be even a little peeved if someone chose to change their baby’s nappy IN FRONT OF THE ONLY EXIT FROM THE ROOM, when there were, presumably, many, many other places she could have chosen, which would have been just as convenient for her but wouldn’t have kept everyone else from leaving the room!

It's not even that that pissed me off. We all make errors of judgement sometimes (it was a particularly stupid one but there you are) it was more that she glared at me and said "can you give me a minute" like I was standing over her to intimidate her when actually I was just trying to walk through the door (someone will be along in a minute to tell me I must have rammed into her with my buggy or shouted at her) and then purposefully slowed down to make a point to all these mean mums who also appeared, trying to get through the door. One of us might have said something gingerly like "it's not the BEST place to change a nappy" which only angered her further.

And yes, it's a baby/toddler group. There was an entire changing area set up in the toilets for all to use. IIRC it even provided wipes!
