To think Palestine Action isn't a terrorist group?

I don't agree with what they've done (breaking into military bases to vandalise planes), but I don't understand why they're being proscribed. Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil have caused far more damage to property and general annoyance.

Arrest and prosecute the people who commit criminal acts, absolutely, but this is setting the bar for branding protestors "terrorists" far too low.

We have marched and we have signed petitions but the UK government continues to send arms to support the genocide the Israeli government is carrying out against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Funny how Kier Starmer supported the anti war protestors who broke into RAF Fairford in 2003 and said it was justified to prevent war crimes.

Nelson Mandela was called a terrorist.
The suffragettes were called terrorists.
Britain First were not called terrorists. Even after Jo Cox was murdered by one of their members who shouted their slogan.

Palestine Action is not a terrorist group, the actions of some members has embarrassed the government and they are reacting. This does not make them terrorists.

FFS it’s KEIR! KEIR!

Thank you, @VerityUnreasonble and @Hoardasurass - good points 👍

YABVU. They absolutely are!

I wouldn't say throwing a bit of paint at a plane is serious damage. It needs a clean and a respray, not scrapping. Should they be prosecuted? Yes. Would I have cared if they'd been shot by the personnel responsible for securing the base? Only so far as it would affect those personnel.

The sprayed paint into the engines, 1 of which may need to be replaced at cost of £25 million.
I really don't think that you understand both the pression engineering that goes into a jet engine or quite how much damage can be done to them by using a high pressure jet of paint from a modified fire extinguisher.
This group of terrorists are escalating their behaviour and tactics. They started vandalising the buildings of companies that work with Israel, then they started "protesting " in mobs on MPs doorsteps, then mobbing and trying to stop them entering parliament and again on the way out. When that didn't get what they wanted a group of them ram raided a defence company in Bristol (members of PA awaiting trial) and now they've damaged vital military equipment to a value of over £25 million in 1 act of terrorism because our government won't accede to their demands.
These are just some of the acts of terrorism this group are responsible for, how much further do they need to go before you recognise that they are a terrorist group?

It's worth reading the statement as to why it's suggested they be proscribed. It's not just because they "threw some paint on a plane"

He wasn't shouting a slogan - from my BBC link;

He shouted: "Britain first, this is for Britain.
"Britain will always come first...

the mystery of Mair is he appears to have simply got on with forming and reinforcing his views with no contact to any of the known extremist organisations in the UK.
There is no evidence of him having been identified at rallies or marches down the years...

Also from your link;

again shouted: "Britain first."

He shouted Britain First twice during his attack. Whether he was a card carrying member of the group or not, the fact he chose that statement to say out loud twice whilst murdering an MP surely shows his support of the group.

Proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation means that being a member or supporting their views is a crime.

Yet being a member of Britain First or supporting their views is grand?

Crazyworldmum · 23/06/2025 16:58

They have openly support Hamas on several occasions by using Hamas bandanas and symbols , they damage military stuff . What did you expect ? I say it’s about time .
Lets hope the Muslim brotherhood is next as they have also been banned most countries

My goodness .... where do I start . Before I do, I just want to say that I'm a supporter of a two state solution etc and am not biased against this group. I do however abhor ALL terrorism, for which I strongly categorise this group as terrorists.

Your definition of 'terrorism' @NotDarkGothicMama is strangely limited to what you see from the news or have experienced.

Terrorism is not limited to public acts of destruction that are done with the intent to cause fear amongst the population.

Terrorism can also extend to direct acts against the police, military or infrastructure. The 2006 Terrorism Act makes it fairly clear I think that in the UK we define terrorism as a violent action that as well as stuff against the person, can "cause serious damage to property".

Just because most of us don't like war, doesn't mean that it's ok to break into military bases and vandalise stuff.

They're lucky they're doing that in the UK; in other parts of the world... well you can imagine.

This 100 percent 👆

Yes, it's going too far, but it's not terrorism. No one's blown anything up or made people afraid to go about their everyday lives.

Extinction Rebellion dug tunnels and occupied Euston for a month. Just Stop Oil blocked ambulances.

It's literally the definition of terrorism under UK law (as brought in by the previous Labour government) see screenshot below

It’s part of a broader picture though to undermine and destabilise our country and our ability to defend ourselves. The aspect particularly concerning to me is the division they are sowing. We are a tolerant nation of all religions, we will not accept fanatics or anyone sabotaging our peaceful society.

I have to say I'm Jewish and I don't see them as doing that at all. They are very much targeting the infrastructure that facilitates genocide, not individuals and not Jews.

Israel is entitled to defend itself, but defence is not nearly two years of relentlessly attacking a largely innocent population and taking a wrecking ball to their cultural institutions and infrastructure in an attempt to bury their cultural as well as actual existence.

Our government needs to stop being apologetic and use their influence as a supposed ally of Israel to help put an end to this.

But they a) didn't embarrass the establishment. B) show real terrorist who do want to.kill people how easy it is and c) commit treason.. Sorry but fucking with UK military equipment is treason.

plus there have been a number of attacks on Jewish people some have been reported in here. That is not acceptable. Jewish people in the uk are not the government of Israel.

BeachLife2 · 23/06/2025 16:29

What a lot of people seem to have forgotten is that two things can be true at once. Too many are divided into 'teams' and see every issue through this lens.

I am totally against what Israel has done in Gaza. However, I also believe that Hamas is an evil group and that vandalising military infrastructure is not legitimate protest.

We have a serious issue seem to think they have to support every single action carried out by their 'team'.

I highly doubt those who think it is fine to damage military jets would feel the same about Reform doing it to 'protest' against immigration.

I have no idea why so many people on the left are so keen on islamofacist regimes and kleptocracies but loathe their own democratic societies. It’s extraordinary to me.

👏 👏

It’s not peaceful resistance. Damaging the military infrastructure of the UK is quite obviously acting against national interests. If Russian agents had done that everyone would perceive it as an act of war.

They are terrorists according to the governments definition of terrorists. They're lucky they weren't shot!

Edited as quoted wrong post but won't let me fix it

OK, so arrest the people on charges relating to damage to army property, which I'm sure is very serious under the law, but it hardly merits them being labelled terrorists.

Who have they 'terrorised', who have they threatened by causing military aircraft to require an (I am sure) expensive repaint?

Breaking into a military base and vandalising military equipment is a step far beyond gluing yourself to the road.

It's like assaulting a police officer, it has to be taken more seriously.

I wonder how many of you bleating about how they’re just harmless protestors who didn’t do nuffink wrong were celebrating when the people on the other side got prison sentences for making offensive Facebook posts?

KnittyNell · 23/06/2025 16:00

It’s an act of treason at the very least.

It really is. But also concerning.

InterIgnis · 23/06/2025 15:56

Breaking into a base and causing millions of pounds worth of damage to military equipment is terrorism. They’re being called what they are.

It’s magnitudes more serious than the actions of Just Stop Oil.

I know. Some of them supporting fascist, nihilistic, antisemitic, misogynist regimes over liberal democracies. Bizarre.
