To think Palestine Action isn't a terrorist group?

I don't agree with what they've done (breaking into military bases to vandalise planes), but I don't understand why they're being proscribed. Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil have caused far more damage to property and general annoyance.

Arrest and prosecute the people who commit criminal acts, absolutely, but this is setting the bar for branding protestors "terrorists" far too low.

Grounding a military jet and causing £millions of damage is not moderate.

Unless you are prepared to stump up the repair fees?

It’s property and money, not human lives, which the jets if launched would have destroyed .

Serpentstooth · 23/06/2025 17:57

No, not terrorists but they've embarassed the government at a time when all services should be on high alert, and now they're going to pay. They've effectively strolled into Brize Norton airbase, that's a disgrace and should never be possible. The government should be thanking them for illustrating this slack approach to security and thanking the Almighty that they're not terrorists but just protesters.

Thanks . Moderate damage to properly is not included in the definition and I hope it never is. These guys are a protest group.

I posted this not much further up, but do read it, the reason for wanting to add them to the proscribed list is not just the recent incident of damage to planes. I don't think debating if that was "moderate" or "serious" damage is the main concern.

PickyBits · 23/06/2025 17:49

If they are now a proscribed terrorist group is it even legal to defend/support them?

Edited

It needs to go through parliament. Next week apparently.

Then MN can start deleting posts professing support for them in the same way that they do for the posters who support Hamas.

bombastix · 23/06/2025 17:52

For the sake of argument, had Palestinian Action stuck to street chants, obstructing public highways and carrying signs there is no way you could classify them as terrorists.

If numbers of PA express support for Hamas, break into military installations and destroy military equipment then they’ve given the Home Office a good reason to classify them as terrorists.

Breaking into a military base and sabotaging military equipment is the very definition of terrorism. They are very lucky they weren't shot

bombastix · 23/06/2025 17:48

If you have to replace a whole jet engine at 25 million, that is not moderate damage to property

PickyBits · 23/06/2025 17:48

I mean who the AF would try to defend these disgusting terrorist supporting nut jobs?

Seriously?

It has been posted several times but here you go.

  • endangering a person's life (other than that of the person committing the action);

  • action designed to seriously interfere with or seriously to disrupt an electronic system.

Could you direct me to those posts please which show how painting jets red is terrorism ? Terrorism means killing or seriously injuring people not stopping them doing things.

No, someone has given the definition upthread, as clarified by Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary. The details of the paint damage to military aircraft is also upthread.- @Hoardasurass at 17.17pm

Read the posts upthread about the impact of the paint. Also, pp have explained other activities they have been involved in. Also, pp have given the definitions of terrorism.

I see one of the founders of this group is the daughter of Palestinian and Iraqi immigrant parents (yes it’s the DM but it gives some background):

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14834175/amp/Palestine-Action-middle-class-leader-campaign-against-hummus-RAF-plane.html

The other founder was an Extinction Rebellion activist who was charged in Aug 2024 for expressing an opinion that is supportive of a proscribed organisation, Hamas, relating to two speeches, on 8th Oct and 11 Oct 2023,

www.crowdjustice.com/case/richard-barnard/

No surprises there then but who funds them I wonder seeing as it doesn’t look like either have much cash and Bernard has been crowdfunding for his legal fees?

I have no idea why so many people on the left are so keen on islamofacist regimes and kleptocracies but loathe their own democratic societies. It’s extraordinary to me.

I know, it is extraordinary.

And some people here could do with watching a few episodes of Air Crash Investigation!

They are being treated as terrorists without having killed anyone or intending to. They were planning to paint RAF jets red to stop them flying.

Your understanding of terrorist offending is too limited. There is a lot of terrorist activity that does not involve killing anyone.

They carry out terrorist activities, therefore they are terrorists. Simple.

Slight problem with your logic there, as our military are not involved in either of Israels wars, so it's just plain old terrorism and maybe treason

This ⬆️.
Two previous posters have claimed that these RAF planes have been bombing innocent people in Gaza.

RanyaJerodung · 23/06/2025 17:32

@KennyMousetits of course the Suffragettes were terrorists. Yes, Nelson Mandela was a terrorist. Many Suffragettes went to prison, they stopped their campaign for the duration of WWI and supported the war Mandela went to prison. When he was released he went down the route of democracy, peace and reconciliation.

Hoardasurass · 23/06/2025 17:31

BarBellBarbie · 23/06/2025 09:02

Protesting military action by damaging military bases is not an act of terrorism, it is protest. Civil disobedience has a long and honourable history. Generally participants accept that they will suffer the consequences of their acts in being arrested and charged. But calling it terrorism is ridiculous.

Sorry but it’s true, a bunch of these idiots are now protesting on behalf of a regime that whips and blinds women. Fools.

Agree - how we've got to point where people are marching on the streets of the UK in support of the Iranian government is utterly beyond me.
