To think Palestine Action isn't a terrorist group?

I don't agree with what they've done (breaking into military bases to vandalise planes), but I don't understand why they're being proscribed. Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil have caused far more damage to property and general annoyance.

Arrest and prosecute the people who commit criminal acts, absolutely, but this is setting the bar for branding protestors "terrorists" far too low.

Yes, they're being useful idiots.

That old chestnut

Amy73838 · 23/06/2025 09:04

I hope the individuals concerned are identified, prosecuted and receive life changing prison sentences.

Have these planes flown into Gaza and targeted innocent people, babies, children?

You know what I meant here right?

BarBellBarbie · 23/06/2025 09:02

Protesting military action by damaging military bases is not an act of terrorism, it is protest. Civil disobedience has a long and honourable history. Generally participants accept that they will suffer the consequences of their acts in being arrested and charged. But calling it terrorism is ridiculous.

User37482 · 23/06/2025 09:00

They have attacked the UK’s military assets. They also targeted Jewish businesses in Stamford hill and manchester so they are disgusting anti-semites too.

HairyHenrietta · 23/06/2025 08:58

Funny how this is an act of terrorism for people, whilst flying these planes into Gaza and dropping them on innocent people -children, babies- is not terrorist but you know, defense….Such a fucked up world.

Calling those of us that oppose the genocide anti-semitic wasn't enough to stop us, so they have upped the ante to calling us terrorists.

The courts will soon be full, but unfortunately not with those who deserve to be there for the mass murder of innocent lives.

This absolutely

Their actions come under the CPS definition of terrorism

Edited

Thank you for this.

I do not see this as an act of terrorism. This is answering your question?

The CPS disagree

Yes, it does. So, pro Israeli, or pro Palestinian, you think this would not be an act of terrorism. Interesting.

BarBellBarbie · 23/06/2025 08:46

It isn't like assault, it is damage to property. Quite different.

The comparison was that assaulting a police officer is dealt with more seriously than assaulting a member of the public.

Rather than comparing and saying assault and damage to property are similar.

This property is of a particular type So would be dealt with nore seriously than other types of property.

bombastix · 23/06/2025 08:55

I don’t think PA have become a proscribed organization based only on what happened at the base.

But it will mean their members are under a lot more scrutiny than before. For all of those saying they haven’t done anything violent well there are quite a few organizations on the UK’s list who would also not have “done” anything violent but are still considered to be a threat.

I know. I'm just wondering, because supposing a pro Israeli group had done this..would they be terrorists or not?

Duvety · 23/06/2025 07:49

They aren't a terrorist organisation! 😭 It's getting bonkers now. Great way to silence protesters. Just arrest them and charge them.

With what? Causing damage to the very things that protect our country IS the very definition of terrorism. FAFO!

RanyaJerodung · 23/06/2025 08:53

HairyHenrietta · 23/06/2025 08:52

No I haven’t said that.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Bloody idiots. I hope they are banned.

CandidLurker · 23/06/2025 08:52

In many parts of the world you can be arrested and thrown in jail just for taking photos near a military base. I’m not sure about precise legal definitions but I regard deliberately damaging our national military assets as treason never mind terrorism (not sure there is still an offence called treason but maybe we need one).

Are people only terrorists if it's an ideal you disagree with?

No I haven’t said that.

Breaking into a military base and vandalising military equipment is a step far beyond gluing yourself to the road.

It's like assaulting a police officer, it has to be taken more seriously.

It isn't like assault, it is damage to property. Quite different.

notinscotland · 23/06/2025 08:46

They broke into and defaced a UK military base, which interferes with national security. That is a different type of activity from disrupting public order and attacking private (corporate) or civilian property. Use common sense - what would the reaction be if any non-UK-based group had done the same?

In any case, they haven't been added yet, so if this is an unfair characterization for some as yet unrevealed reason, there will be an opportunity to argue and present evidence against proscription.

RanyaJerodung · 23/06/2025 08:46

HairyHenrietta · 23/06/2025 08:41

I agree they are not terrorists. Our government
needs to jump off the fence and take a stronger stand against Israel.

Are people only terrorists if it's an ideal you disagree with?

PowerStruggles · 23/06/2025 08:45

They attacked a military installation. I live not far from a barracks, they have soldiers with guns on the gate. They are lucky they were not shot, in other countries they would have been shot on sight.
