The worst thing about those attached bottle lids…

It’s not that they’re usually a pain in the hole to screw back on, it’s not that they squash your nose when you’re trying to drink…

It’s that when it’s something like a smoothie, you have to lick them out like a fucking pervert. I’m always tonguing these lids in public like a dirty bastard, but if I don’t then I get smoothie spilled on me from where it’s collected in the lid.

Sick of tongue flicking lids in public like a total deviant.

When you open the top you fold it back and it clicks into place!

Pressed too soon!

When you open you fold it back, it clicks into place, you drink no lid in your nose, then fold it forward to reseal.

You only have to break one side. The whole of the EU population seems to cope alright with these bottle tops, what's so special about the Britsh that they find these tops challenging?

They’re not challenging. They’re fucking stupid. My way of coping henceforth will be to snap them off and fling them into the sea. Bonus points for hitting a fish.

I am of course joking. I will continue lidilingus while grumbling about it to myself.

The worst thing about them that I have heard is that they make bottles thrown in waterways and the sea sink so they are more difficult to remove when people are trying to clear up rubbish from the sea

Oh I hadn't heard that, but it makes sense.

A very good reason to revert to proper bottle lids!!

So depressing to read that people are yanking these off to avoid a mild inconvenience when they've been changed so they're more likely to get recycled.

They'd have been better off just doing a campaign to get people to put the lids back on bottles before recycling them.

'mild inconvenience' hmm

getting your clothes covered in smoothie/juice, is not necessarily a 'mild' inconvenience for some people.

getting drink in your eye could have serious issues

having a drink empty into your bag can be much more than a 'mild' inconvenience.

the poster who has a numb face after brain surgery and hurts h er self because she can't feel the lid... that's mild is it??

I had a stroke earlier in the year, one side of my face is numb too. I'm struggling to drink without dribbling anyway, these bottles make it much more difficult. I have one numb hand as well, they make several things more difficult in that way too.

the kids can't do them up properly so lots of spills.

Lots of elderly people having problems as well.

just because it may be a 'mild' issue for YOU doesn't mean it is for everyone!!

A campaigner to explain WHY you should put lids back on bottles before recycling would have been MUCH better!

.

See my recent post. I doubt this was actually a problem before. One of those solutions to a non existent problem.

What sort of person puts bottles in recycling without the lids anyway?

When plastic recycling began, we were told not to put the lids in the recycling with the bottles. So I didn't. If they now want us to recycle the lids as well, they could just say so.

(I too have spilled a drink because of the difficulty of getting the lid screwed back on. With these new lids you can't carry the opened bottle around with you.)

I snip every single one off and don’t know anyone who doesn’t snip or pull them off.

Abaomutely stupid idea that I won’t be part of.

Some of them are bloody hard to get off though. I saw a brilliant video on instagram along the lines of “what the government thought we used to do with bottle lids” and it’s someone standing by a recycling bin with their empty bottle which they put in the bin and then absolutely hurl the bottle cap down the street.

I'm another who just pulls the lid off, unless I'm going to drink the whole lot in one go.

What sort of person puts bottles in recycling without the lids anyway? That's why this was introduced, but I've always put the lid back on the bottle.

You just put the lid to the side. Perfectly easy not to hit your nose! But I agree that the lids don't screw back on very securely.

Tell me about i lost a bottle of coke yesterday thinking I had screwed the lid back on.properly

DappledThings · 22/06/2025 14:26

I have always shamelessly licked the lid of a smoothie. Why wouldn't you want to get it all?

Not being able to easily detach the lid has made no impact on my life whatsoever.

We prefer to just throw them in hedges to make little water bowls for the wildlife, and that is our imperial right,

🤣🤣🤣

Ahsheeit · 22/06/2025 14:25

Undo cap, give it a twist and one bit snaps, so the cap no longer tries to climb up your nostrils. Learned the hard way.

shellyleppard · 22/06/2025 14:23

@TinyTempest I'm dying with laughing 🤣🤣 innocent smoothie......not ao innocent after all 🤣🤣

Ilovegermany · 22/06/2025 14:20

So you got Brexit but you still got the stupid bottle tops that were an EU ruling and the companies make everything the same for the markets.

Scorchio84 · 22/06/2025 14:17

Yep.
First thing I do.

We have the OP tonguing them out like a pervert, and you yanking them off! 😲

I think they need to rename the Innocent Smoothie!

Starburst24 · 22/06/2025 13:47

I bloody hate them

i had brain surgery in March and it has left the one side of my face numb. I have enough issues with drinking anything as it is at the moment without trying to a navigate a sodding lid which means i miss my mouth as I can’t feel where the lid is

I remove every single one of them
