The worst thing about those attached bottle lids…

It’s not that they’re usually a pain in the hole to screw back on, it’s not that they squash your nose when you’re trying to drink…

It’s that when it’s something like a smoothie, you have to lick them out like a fucking pervert. I’m always tonguing these lids in public like a dirty bastard, but if I don’t then I get smoothie spilled on me from where it’s collected in the lid.

Sick of tongue flicking lids in public like a total deviant.

You only have to break one side. The whole of the EU population seems to cope alright with these bottle tops, what's so special about the Britsh that they find these tops challenging?

How do you know that the whole of the eu population copes OK?

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 22/06/2025 15:37

I'll know our government are taking litter and the environment seriously when they start coming down hard on cigarette litter.

For every dropped bottle or lid I'll pick up 100 pieces of cigarette litter. Make a campaign about them and we might get somewhere. And effing cable ties dropped by events teams and scaffolders.

Just snip through the tether.

With what? I’m not performing a banjo-stringectomy on my bottles with my teeth. I already look like a total animal licking the lids out!

They click and hold themselves flat though at a 90°angle to the bottle and far enough away to never be in the way or have anything spilled in them. There isn't a problem with them as long as you push them flat until.thry click.

I disagree.

My son struggles to do them up well enough and hence I've had several spills in the car.

I hate drinking out of them in the flat position and do find they are in the way, maybe because I wear glasses, maybe not.

I agree with using them, I would just like a longer attachment so I can hold it down while I drink.

I think it might have actually been a real issue because for many years we were told NOT to put lids on bottles when recycling them.

people started collecting the lids for recycling (at certain plants able to recycle them) through various charities.

we were also requested to squash bottles & cans etc, it's only been within the last year the council have asked us not to do this as their machinery doesn't recognise squashed milk containers etc so all have to be pulled out manually OR landfill 🫩

it's hard to break the habits of throwing the lids in the charity pot, washing & squashing the milk container! But it's for the best (now).

I still say a good campaign would be FAR BETTER !

What the fuck about not squashing things?! I’ve never heard this. I squash the lot!

If bins are only being collected every 3 weeks how can you get by not squashing them?

honestly this sort of thing makes me want to give up. I’m going to fling all my bottles straight in the sea from now on.

I was tonguing one at the park and I pulled.

Your tongue action must be superior to mine

I really don't understand why people keep going on about this.

Open the lid, push it down and it clicks to a locked position which means it's horizontal to the bottle and can't possibly be in the way no matter how you drink from the bottle.

It’s full of smoothie which I have to lick out like a dirty smoothie slurper!!! Today I caught someone’s eye mid-tonguing when they walked past my parked car. We maintained eye-contact throughout the tonguing.

This cannot be allowed!

They need longer attachments so you can hold the lid down when drinking and screw them back on easier.

I bloody hate them

i had brain surgery in March and it has left the one side of my face numb. I have enough issues with drinking anything as it is at the moment without trying to a navigate a sodding lid which means i miss my mouth as I can’t feel where the lid is

I remove every single one of them

I do hope that you are recovering well Flowers

See my recent post. I doubt this was actually a problem before. One of those solutions to a non existent problem.

Gagamama2 · 22/06/2025 15:10

I couldn’t agree more, these bottle lids irritate tf out of me!

we have people planning how to inhabit Mars but whoever invented these couldn’t come up with anything better. All it needs is a bit length to the plastic attaching the lid to the bottle so it can more easily be folded right out of the way. Like a kind of short plastic piece of string

queenmeadhbh · 22/06/2025 15:07

Gepl · 22/06/2025 13:29

The main problem is that unless you’re very careful, the drink that is on the inside of the lid ends up down your top. However, broadly speaking they don’t bother me, and one strong pull and they detach anyway.

This is literally what OP says is the main
problem!

lidilingus 😂

Anyway, serves yer right for buying smoothies instead of eating proper fruit & veg!

Having a stroke

plus the ones I mostly come across are only starched in one place anyway, and besides if you do manage to break them try leave a nasty sharp bit.

Westfacing · 22/06/2025 15:03

Fuckyachickenstrips · 22/06/2025 14:59

They’re not challenging. They’re fucking stupid. My way of coping henceforth will be to snap them off and fling them into the sea. Bonus points for hitting a fish.

I am of course joking. I will continue lidilingus while grumbling about it to myself.

ChaToilLeam · 22/06/2025 15:03

They get right up my nostril and leak in my bag. Hate them.

I always recycled them anyway so this annoying change makes no difference to that.

TinyTempest · 22/06/2025 13:48

We have the OP tonguing them out like a pervert, and you yanking them off! 😲

I think they need to rename the Innocent Smoothie!

🤣

Thaawtsom · 22/06/2025 15:02

Ha ha! Thank you for this post -- laughing lots. We rant on a regular basis about these. Yes yes to smoothies down my top / yanking them off and splatting myself and passers by with smoothies, smoothies in my face, on my glasses, up my nose ... I HATE THE FUCKERS

StrawberrySquash · 22/06/2025 15:00

Yes, they are a PITA. And too often the attachment stops it screwing back on properly. I pull them off too. And then feed them to wild animals, obviously /s

Ihad2Strokes · 22/06/2025 15:00

HelenCurlyBrown · 22/06/2025 13:40

I yank them off, doesn’t everyone?

Since my stroke I can't. I don't have the strength or dexterity in my fingers.

JustSawJohnny · 22/06/2025 15:00

I snap them off and then tongue the lid when nobody is looking
