The worst thing about those attached bottle lids…

It’s not that they’re usually a pain in the hole to screw back on, it’s not that they squash your nose when you’re trying to drink…

It’s that when it’s something like a smoothie, you have to lick them out like a fucking pervert. I’m always tonguing these lids in public like a dirty bastard, but if I don’t then I get smoothie spilled on me from where it’s collected in the lid.

Sick of tongue flicking lids in public like a total deviant.

Not me but found similar on Amazon. I am a technopygmy so no idea how to share a link, though I think others have.

Ok, Amazon challenge to find the teeniest scissors I can. Bonus points if I can put them on a key ring 😄

Was it you that posted the the pic of them further up the fred? I don’t know why teeny tiny scissors appeal to me so much 😂

Hemline Folding Scissors - Wool Warehouse - Buy Yarn, Wool, Needles & Other Knitting Supplies Online!

There are others, but these come with a little loop so you put a keyring thru them.

Or use nail clippers.

Might have to get some of those! My oh has one of those heavy everything type penknives (Swiss army style I guess) on his key ring, and there is a scissor bit on there but my crappy arthritic fingers - like so many on here! - just cannot manage something like that! And I think the power bank in my bag alone seems to weigh about 16st so if I was to add one of those penknives my poor, weak body would just be slumped on the floor trying to drag my bag around behind me 😆

I have two pairs, but have had them for 50 years so no idea where they might now be available.

Yes they are here - and they always ping a little bit of milk, and the kids often don't manage to get them screwed back on.

Plus of course the bottles are thinner, so if you happen to squeeze them wrong, then an actual glug of milk bloops out

That’s infuriating. They’re not like that in Scotland for some reason they still come off completely here.

Milk lids aren’t attached though. Why are they immune to this nonsense? It can’t be about recycling because they’ve recently made the lids all white (no red, green or blue anymore) to make them recyclable. And yet they’re not attached to the carton 🤷🏻

It's the leaking. They never go back on right snd I rndbup with s puddle of sprite a the bottom of my back. Gave a bottle of fanta to my boyfriend, he put it in his pocket and he looked like he had peed himself when we reached home.

I snip every single one off and don’t know anyone who doesn’t snip or pull them off.

Abaomutely stupid idea that I won’t be part of.

I completely agree. So annoying, can’t drink out of them. Difficult to screw on and off. No consideration given to the elderly and disabled that might struggle with them. I pull them off everytime, partly just to make a point (to noone other than me, but it makes me feel better 😂). So annoying and pointless.

It's on all bottles here - unless we go Canadian and they start selling milk in bags, there's going to be little pings of milk, little drips everywhere from the bloody lids (because even if I'm careful, my kids aren't)

Wow what a bright spark you are.

Its not unreasonable to need refreshment when out and about, its not unreasonable to be able to drink that safely if its a hot drink you want.

And its tea for me anyway

I yank them off, doesn’t everyone?

No. Never.

Funderthighs · 22/06/2025 17:48

I just snap them off. Problem solved. 😃

soupyspoon · 22/06/2025 16:36

They dont, theres people moaning on the Italian and Spanish versions of mamasnet right now.

The lids DONT always click into position and stay there for those that keep confidently repeating this, they are scratchy and sharp, also difficult to manipulate for those of us with disabilities, I dont have the strengh to manage them.

However they pale into insignificance in the inconvenience and danger category compared to cardboard lids that some shops are now using for hot drinks Mcdonalds is one of them and a garden centre near us used a cardboard lid for a hot drink the other day. They dont seal properly and are lethal for scalding, dribbling out as you lift the cup to drink. Then you cannot get the lid off for love nor money and risk scalding as you do so, only being able to get it off by tearing it which means you then dont have a lid. Awful awful things.

Coffee is not compulsory

afaloren · 22/06/2025 17:42

They touch my face when I’m drinking and I can’t bear it (autistic).

HelenCurlyBrown · 22/06/2025 17:37

When I said I yank the lid off, I was talking about Diet Coke. I’ve never drunk an Innocent Smoothie in my life - way too much sugar.

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 22/06/2025 17:22

HonoriaBulstrode · 22/06/2025 16:14

these narrower profile lids are damn near impossible for anybody with arthritis in their hands to open.

Not just people with arthritis. I had to use a damp face flannel the other day to get enough grip to twist the lid off. I was at home then and could do that. It's a nightmare when you're out and haven't got anything helpful to hand.

Also a bloody nightmare if the bottle itself is made of flimsy plastic! You end up squeezing it as you get the lid off then…splosh…

What the fuck about not squashing things?! I’ve never heard this. I squash the lot!

If bins are only being collected every 3 weeks how can you get by not squashing them?

honestly this sort of thing makes me want to give up. I’m going to fling all my bottles straight in the sea from now on.

I know!!

it's only during this past month the council have sent the nite around about NOT squashing,

it's a hard habit to break, and yes, it means the indoor recycling bin needs emptying much more frequently.

we gave shared outdoor recycling bins & some of my neighbours put all sorts in them (absolutely any broken toys, clothes, shoes, broken household objects so my non squashed items don't make that much difference & at least they do get recycled ( or at least I give them the best chance of being recycled!!!)

They fold so the finger holes cover the blades. They are about two inches long, unfolded.

Ooh I need some of those.

I was just thinking I think I've only probably used one of these lids since they came out. I hate smoothies though they all taste if slightly off banana.
