After some inspiration 🤣 just turned 37 and in no rush for a relationship after my 20 year relationship ended a year ago.

Both 31. Had both spent our twenties mostly single. Very happy 14 years later.

Couldthiswork · 22/06/2025 11:18

Days away from 45 (and plenty of baggage), met the man of my absolute dreams. Nearly 5 years later and couldn’t be happier and have booked our wedding 😊

Pleasegodgotosleep · 22/06/2025 11:17

Age 34, married at 36. 11 years, 2 house moves, 2 job moves and 2 kids later we are thankfully , embarrassingly (to our DDs) loved up. He is my best friend.

Spendysis · 22/06/2025 11:11

I was 17 he was 25 been together 31 years married for 25 years this year

Seagullstopitnow · 22/06/2025 11:11

I'm lucky I guess. I've had 2. (Unfortunately also a lot of timewasters 😆)
First I met at 25, I was 100% myself with him, was perfect, he unfortunately died a couple of years later.

Gave up hope of ever feeling that again, had another LTR (my longest to date) but I'd settled for just 'ok' then a relatively short 'just ok' relationship of 2 years

Aged 42 I got together with one of my oldest friends, and its back! That comfortableness that only comes from being with someone that absolutely fits me perfectly. I'm so in love 4 years later and I can't see it changing. We want to grow old together.

By all means settle for a time if it suits. But he's out there, might have been right under your nose for 25 years 😁

wlv12 · 22/06/2025 11:01

17, been together 26 years, married 23 years

GoldMoon · 22/06/2025 11:00

Met at 17 , married at 19 ( wow , different times ) divorced at 38 , met someone else at 40 still together ( and now married ) 20 years later .
However , cynical old me questions the sole mate,/ love of my life statements as I've never been over demonstrative with either , and either have they , we've never gazed at each other for hours nor not bear not to have a hand on them at all times etc
Love , yes . Respect - yes , enjoy each others company , yes , but solemates / love of life ? ? ?

Thepeopleversuswork · 22/06/2025 10:46

I don't really believe in the concept of "love of my life" and "the one" etc. The idea of there only being one person in the whole world who is right for you is daft.

Finding the right person for you depends in large part on when you are both ready to commit and do your best to make something work. No relationship will ever meet all your needs and while compatibility is important I think there are multiple potential partners for any one person. It's how you both conduct yourselves as the relationship progresses that ultimately decides its success, no particular magic.

I met my now DP when I was 44, three years after my 12 year marriage broke down. We got together when I was 46, moved in five years later. I don't believe he is "the one": he's just a good partner with whom I have a good relationship. But in large part I think this was because, having had a bad marriage, I had a much clearer idea of what I wanted and didn't want in a partner.

This is why in general I think young marriage is a bad idea, although I know a lot of people disagree. I just don't think a person in their late teens or early 20s is emotionally mature enough to know what they need to sustain them for the rest of their life. I think you need to have tested the waters a bit before you get there.

OldEnoughToFancyBobGeldof · 22/06/2025 10:44

29 and been married nearly 20 years

Didimum · 22/06/2025 10:37

Surely the ‘love of your life’ is just the current person you’re in love with? You don’t know that answer til your dead.

Fletchasketch · 22/06/2025 10:30

Forty. I was happily single with a great life when I turned 40. A few months later, I had a message from someone I’d met on a dating app a few months previously. He has a smile that lights up his whole face and I was captivated from the first date. Luckily he felt the same and two years later we’re happier than ever and I can’t imagine my life without him. He is the kindest man I know and I’m so glad I made that a priority and didn’t settle.

For anyone who thinks they might have missed the boat. You haven’t.

If I hadn't met him I'd have stayed single as I never thought of myself as the marrying type

Chasingsquirrels · 22/06/2025 10:27

Which one?

Met 1st H @ uni aged 18, together till 35.

Met 2nd H @ work aged 27, worked for him for years, nothing between us until a year or so after H1 left, got together aged 37. He died when I was 44.

Met current partner on OLD aged 46, still together in my mid-50s.

itbemay1 · 22/06/2025 10:27

age 20. Still married. It’s not been easy but I love him and the life we have built. 30 years later and still bobbing along nicely. If we were to separate I’d hope we’d still be friends but you never know. I also don’t think I’d bother again. Being single is also a good life!

21, and he was 24. 10 years down the line and still sickeningly loved up, with the added bonus of two beautiful children. Of course, there are never any guarantees anything will last forever… but I certainly hope it does!

spoonbillstretford · 22/06/2025 10:26

mrselizabethdarcy · 22/06/2025 10:25

Age 49. Was single for 10 years after my divorce and had pretty much given up and thought I'd be single forever. He is my soulmate and I've never felt so loved and happy. Absolute love of my life!

BeyondMyWits · 22/06/2025 10:25

Also 34... married at 35, kids at 36 and 37.
61 now, and the twinkle in his eye still gives me butterflies.
