Forty. I was happily single with a great life when I turned 40. A few months later, I had a message from someone I’d met on a dating app a few months previously. He has a smile that lights up his whole face and I was captivated from the first date. Luckily he felt the same and two years later we’re happier than ever and I can’t imagine my life without him. He is the kindest man I know and I’m so glad I made that a priority and didn’t settle.

For anyone who thinks they might have missed the boat. You haven’t.

Well you got lucky

Some of us are still on the jetty, waiting. You can't know that the OP hasn't missed the boat too

I was 29.
l had previously been in a relationship from the age of 16 but I didn’t love him for a long time. I ended it as I was approaching 30, I knew I wanted more out of life and a few months later I met my partner. I used to say he was the man of my dreams from the moment I met him.

Also 29 dh 30.
both previously divorced a few years
Married 26 years. Very happy.

megatwat · 22/06/2025 12:19

17

still married nearly 40 years now

MaMisled · 22/06/2025 12:18

I'd just escaped from an unhappy 12 year marriage and met my fabulous DH aged 37, 23 years ago

ThereWillBeSun · 22/06/2025 12:08

I was with my ex for nearly 17 years, assumed that was it for me and I’d be alone forever, but met my DH evolve trying to prove there was no point trying to find anyone 😂 I was 35, disabled, and had three kids.

TourangaLeila · 22/06/2025 12:05

Depends what you mean by love of your life and is highly subjective.

I still think about my first boyfriend. It was highly charged and sexual. Utterly obcessed with each other but ended horribly. Is that love of my life?

Or the husband who I adore and can depend on to care for me and (I hope) love me for the rest of my life on this earth?

I would go for the second over the first but the first had serious passion.

LittleCosette · 22/06/2025 12:02

I was 31- he was 26. We’d met at my cousins wedding about 6 weeks before and I thought he was too young but he was (is) soo gorgeous! We had a drunken snog that night (it was my cousin’s birthday) and I thought that would be it.
We were engaged 5 months later. He is without a doubt the best thing that has ever happened to me- and I’m so proud to call him my husband.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 22/06/2025 11:59

Met when I was 21 and he was 22 and we were married 18 months later. Together for 25 years now

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 22/06/2025 11:59

26

TescoGold · 22/06/2025 11:57

I've been married for many years, but I don't think I've ever met anyone whom I would describe as the love of my life. I'm not sure that I even know what it means, to be honest.

Fontet · 22/06/2025 11:57

16 still at school ....my now husband was 20.....we have been together for 37 years...married for 33 years. Share the same birthday.

CarrieMoonbeams · 22/06/2025 11:57

15, he was 16 and in the year above me at school. Got engaged when I was 18, married aged 21, now we're just weeks away from our 41st wedding anniversary. He's just ace, he really is.

HappiestSleeping · 22/06/2025 11:55

Met, or got together? My wife and I got together when I was 42. She is a couple of years older, but I didn't say so out loud.

Douglas Adams suggests that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42, so it seems appropriate.

I had known her a good few years prior.

BeachPossum · 22/06/2025 11:52

I was 24. We've been together for 14 years, married for 10. Doesn't seem possible really, for that much time to have passed!

PollyBell · 22/06/2025 11:52

Early 20s

DonewhatIcando · 22/06/2025 11:50

42, I'm now 59 and he's still the live of my life

Ponoka7 · 22/06/2025 11:49

I was 16, then widowed. Then in my 30's, but he developed an addiction, had a great time while it lasted. I met my current DP at 52, nearly six years ago. We are happy, I'm partly his carer, but he totally suits me, isn't grumpy, is kind and laid back. It's what I need at my age. I've also had fun dating. Dating should be fun. Have some fun.

TheSoapyFrog · 22/06/2025 11:49

I was 37 (am 42 now). I'd only really been in one serious relationship which ended when I was 30, and that only lasted about 2 and a bit years. Tbh I wasn't really looking, and was happy to stay single, but there we go.

Tulisaaa · 22/06/2025 11:48

I feel really rubbish that my ex met somebody almost instantly. I’m still single, not like I have a point to prove.

OP posts:
wordywitch · 22/06/2025 11:46

Just shy of my 19th birthday. 45 now and still going strong.

Doggymummar · 22/06/2025 11:44

Well I'm not dead so who can say? 45 for this one
