And you think they have come together with Trump for this reason ? Surely you dont think that- 🤯😶‍🌫️

Edited

I have worked for three UK government agencies
All had a list of announcements (at the FSA called the Shitlist) that are waiting for an opportunity like this to slip out when the news is occupied with other things
Every department has a Jo Moore and/or a Martin Sixsmith whose job includes "seizing opportunities to minimise negative public engagement"
The government might not have 'come together' with Trump over this¹, but they will take advantage of it

¹Although the bombers will probably have taken off from Diego Garcia, which would have required UK PM's approval - not Parliament's, of course)

Yet Israel is allowed them? Not sure I would want them to have them either.

You may not want them too but they are not a hostile country to the west and present no threat to the west and as far as I know Israel isn’t planting terror cells in UK cities - that is a key point of difference. The Islamic republic is a threat to our way of life and is a regime that murders women, hangs gay people and executes any opposition. The support on our streets for it baffles me.

"There is no genocide.
Saying there is one doesn’t make it true."

A genocide is being live streamed to us day after day

The murder of tens of thousands of innocent children by Israel is always relevant. They don’t get a pass on people commenting because Netanyahu has found himself another target.

It's only "Murder" if it's deliberate.

Israel does not seek out civilian targets.

Hamas deliberately puts weapons below the civilian infrastructure using Gazans as "Human shields". But we always knew this didn't we?

Once Iran has it's capacity to wage war degraded they will stop bankrolling Hamas, who will fold and leave Gaza.

I think we can all agree on that but they have allies who do have nuclear capabilities including North Korea and Pakistan. Escalating conflict will not make any of us safer.

I did wonder what others might do and it was the one thing that would hesitate over but they have been very quiet on this and hopefully will remain so.

Ok I’m glad this isn’t for mners to decide. An emboldened Iran with nuclear capability isn’t worth it.

Isn't worth what?
Are you suggesting that the US plus UK, France, etc should be attacking Iran based on what someone as crazy as Netanyahu has been saying for over 30 year?! It's worth risking a massive escalation of violence in the ME region and beyond? Iran will be emboldened in terms of making nuclear weapons as a result of this attack, not the other way around!

You are aiming at the wrong target.

Hamas is a terrorist group responsible for the situation in Gaza.

No, Israeli politicians and officials have made literally dozens of comments in favour of restricting the flow of food and medicine to the civilian population, all backed up by their actions. That’s on Israel and its leadership of war criminals.

They weren't far off having a nuclear weapon?

Iran is/was way off having a nuclear weapon. If it was close the US and the nuclear watchdogs would have known, said and warned of it.

Not according to Iran themselves

Ok, so all the women and children in Ireland should have been killed when the IRA did their bombings a few decades ago? All the hospitals flattened in NI? All the schools, with children in it? That would have been ok because the IRA were a terrorist group? No.

Palestine and genocide will be getting shoehorned into this thread, whether it’s relevant or not.

I haven't seen a compelling evidence that Iran is about to produce a nuclear weapon. The Israelis, on the other hand, actually have nuclear bombs.

Netanyahu has been saying that they are just on the tip of doing so for over 30 years in an attempt to draw the US and other countries into a war to destroy the regime in Iran and do his bidding. I referred to a good series that CNN produced recently quoting Netanyahu above. I can't find it, unfortunately but here is 'the bomb scene' from 2012.

It won’t just be what BN says. The G7 are agreed on Iran not getting a weapon.

My point is not whether Iran should be allowed nuclear weapons but whether starting a war with them is justified because of claims they might be close to having them. The same claims have been made for years.

Wait, theres no genocide?! Wow.

Who is on the right side of history here? I've studied at Yad Vashem by the way.

All men, women and children are being obliterated. Have a look at the photos. Nothing survives. There's no difference between gas and fire.

Benjamin Netanyahu has been saying Iran are 3-5 years away from having nuclear weapons since 1992. In 2012 he took a cartoon picture of a bomb to the UN and drew red lines on it to illustrate how close Iran where to having nuclear weapons. Why are we so sure he's right this time?

As a private citizen he gave "expert testimony" on Iraq to Congress in September 2002 in which he said, "an invasion of Iraq would be a good choice". We ended up with a "sexed up" dossier about Iraq having WMD and we invaded.

Perhaps it's time to stop taking anything he says seriously.

Cross posted. I've just linked to the 2012 performance below.

Yes, perhaps it is indeed time we stopped taking a violent madman like him seriously.

It's WMD all over again.

Let's hope PM Starmer keeps us the fuck out of it. Not our circus, not our monkeys.

> It's WMD all over again.
Not quite as bad (although the orange orifice is several orders of magnitude worse than Bush) as Iran definitely have a nuclear enrichment facility at Fordow, and the Atomic Energy Commission has recently announced that they have breached their agreements on weapons grade Uranium

Best thing Iran can do now in the short term is surely take their medicine and lay low until Trump and Netanyahu are out the picture. No country of any note is going to come riding to Iran’s side in the case of a prolonged war against the US/Israel.

Iran developing nuclear weapons is a bad thing. How can anybody think it's a good thing. Whether this is the best way of dealing with it is another question. Still better than hand wringing once the weapon exists or worst still used.

Deliberate fear mongering by Western media to make the populations scared in order to justify Israeli and Western violence.

@rainingsnoringdo you think there’s no threat from an Iran with nuclear weapons? Would you have let it continue in development

Amy8 · 22/06/2025 08:41

Iran has been a corrupt and autocratic regime since the 70s, with the appearance of the population being kept in line.

This may be the time to overthrow the current regime but one attack won’t do it and Americans aren’t ready for another war - if you’re going to overthrow a regime, it takes time and effort. Nothing the Americans have time for, so this is worse because trump doesn’t care about long term, never has and never will as far as the Middle East goes.

the Iranian government doesn’t care about its people and sadly now it seems nor does the US.

rainingsnoring · 22/06/2025 08:38

ArtTheClown · 22/06/2025 08:36

Your article has nothing to with the Iranian regime.

Yes it does - its highly likely it was Iranian-backed, not lone wolves.

You can believe that if you want to.

What is certain, after the US action, and probably the UK will join in, is that terror attacks will increase. Keep poking the sleeping bear everywhere and they will eventually respond.
