@DiscoDancingDoris that "nothing dangerous" did include enriched uranium. Just bear that in mind.

If the planes used Diego Garcia we’re already involved as we’ll have had to agree to it.

They did not. The flight originated in the US and refueled off the coast of Spain. The B-2s that deployed to Guam were a faint.

Where B-2 stealth bombers' mission to strike Iran started in the U.S.

U.S. Air Force B-2 stealth bombers deployed in the attack against Iran nuclear facilities, confirmed by President Donald Trump on June 21.

Why do people keep saying that this has happened because BN has said Iran has weapons?

That's not how military intelligence works. There are always multiple sources.

And if he has been saying it for years, why would it suddenly matter right now?

You don't suddenly call a president out of the G7 talks and have a secret bombing mission, complete with misdirection, because of some guy saying the same thing for 30 years.

Imagine there is a big playground with lots of different kids. Some kids are friends, some don’t get along.

One of the kids is called Iran. Some of the other kids, like America and Israel, don’t trust Iran and are worried it might build something dangerous, like a toy that could really hurt people. But Iran says, 'I’m not doing anything wrong!'

America this morning flies over and breaks some of Iran’s toys, saying, 'Just in case you're hiding something dangerous!' But nothing dangerous was found. Iran gets really upset, like, 'Why did you do that?! I didn’t even do anything!'

Now Iran is thinking about how to respond — maybe shouting, maybe pushing back — and everyone on the playground is nervous about what might happen next.

Thankyou.

anotherside · 22/06/2025 12:05

The US labelling any other nation a “bully” is fairly rich in irony.

Can someone explain to me like I am a 5 year old what has happened and what may happen now.
I don't fully understand what the hell is going on and feel overwhelmed and anxious..🥴

@DomPom47 Iran are the bad guys hth. :)

Of course Iran are the bad guys if you have a simple naive one sided view of the world.

Are the Israelis the bad guys for you if they are starving the population of Gaza and bombing hospitals or do you then go into justification mode for this right wing ultranationalist Israeli government. From the murdering of doctors to journalist to children….

Are the US the bad guys for you if they have been involved with endless conflicts or do you justify that if it serves that national interests regardless of how many people end up dying …

For me Iran are not the bad guys. The U.S. and UK overthrew Iran’s democratically elected leader in 1953 to protect oil interests, meddling in other countries and then acting surprised with the consequences that bring about.

Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and others are all vying for influence. Each supports proxy groups and takes actions others would deem aggressive/distasteful.

Countries like the U.S. and Israel have blatantly violated international law (Iraq and Gaza) but again for you they are probably not the bad guys which shows the blatant double standards in how different countries are judged.

If Pakistan, Russia and Israel can be trusted with nuclear weapons and not be seen as bad guys then I am all for Iran having them too.

Newbutoldfather · 22/06/2025 11:59

Israel has been planning this for years. This was just an opportune time.

And I think the U.S using its bunker busters actually stabilises the situation, as taking on Israel is a far easier proposition than taking on the U.S.

Iran was close to getting a bomb. You can debate how close, but according to the IAEA, they had reached 83.7% purity, and 90% is required for a bomb. For a reactor, you need about 5%!

Iran has been ‘negotiating’ for years and, simultaneously, getting on with their bomb program. They were not negotiating in good faith.

Whilst, I can see that allowing some countries to have nukes and not others is ‘unfair’, practicality dictates that you don’t allow your enemy, especially when it is a theocratic regime, to join the nuclear club.

Tbf if the exact same action had been carried out under a Dem administration, people would be a lot less panicked.

Yes, but that's rather disheartening, because a Democrat administration would likely have done exactly the same thing. It's very much in lone with what has always been American policy, and supported by NATO and the west.

So many people seem to have their faculties totally crushed by their TDS they can't even make the most basic type of analysis.

I am not some kind of fangirl for Israel, but it is crazy to me that people's support of Palestine seems to mean they can't look at the situation with Iran with some kind of historically accurate lens.

How do these characterless, cultureless, virtueless men get
to put our fragile peace at risk like this? So their rich friends can sell weapons and they feel important? I wish that hell is real so I can join the queue to kick them in the nuts.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/06/2025 11:29

Trump is running roughshod over his own country's protocol, and honestly, informing the world about an unconstitutional act of war via his social media before any official confirmation is not a good look. He's gone and done something that he technically shouldn't be able to do because he's a deluded megalomaniac who thinks God is on his side.

Since WW2 there have been "rules" designed to hopefully curtail countries deliberately destabilising "world peace" due to ego or delusions of grandeur.

This situation has torn up the rule book and I am really beginning to believe there is an undisclosed end game, partly economically driven, with an underpinning of religious zealotry.

As ever, gen pop are the disposable pawns in the chess game and the economic and humanitarian fallout will probably be catastrophic, even if it isn't immediate.

So I'm doing what we're all supposed to do, keeping calm and carrying on - in fact I'm about to put the kettle on.

While internally I feel as if the world has gone entirely mad, and if I'm not careful I'll follow suit.

I won't be responding to your posts further because we are just going round in circles.

Frankly, I pray that I am wrong about the escalation of violence and potential consequences of the Israeli and US (and UK and EU) actions.

Fine happy to disagree and not respond reading sarcasm in each post anyway.

Yes most leaders not just one have been concerned about this for some time. Hence the JCPOA.

So no not just the sarcasm stuff.

Iran stands against democracy and our shared values. This is a good day if this has set back its nuclear programme. I hope the people of Iran (a country where I have been by the way as a woman on business) now can rise up against their leaders and those of their people here in the UK to escape the regime can return in triumph.

Iran had no nuclear weapons yesterday. It has none today. How has the US actions made the rest of the world safer from a country run by fanatical lunatics? Do you not think Iran will now want revenge?

How will the US actions help the people of Iran rise up against the regime?

You think that we are justified in attacking another sovereign country because they don't share 'Western values'? Are Western values about being violent and tyrannical because that is what you are suggesting.

You think that history suggests that the Iranian people will no rise up against their leaders? For a recent example of how this supposition worked out, you should look at Russia and Putin. There are many other examples.

It's only "Murder" if it's deliberate.

Israel does not seek out civilian targets.

Hamas deliberately puts weapons below the civilian infrastructure using Gazans as "Human shields". But we always knew this didn't we?

Once Iran has it's capacity to wage war degraded they will stop bankrolling Hamas, who will fold and leave Gaza.

@anotherside and where do all the numbers of civilian desths come from? - a corrupt government who continue to perpetuate an idea that they are ‘The victims’ in all of this.

You really need to dig much further into Palestinian politics and policies to see that the principle of engaging your civilians into ‘martydom’ and be paid for your acts in way of large sums of money, perpetuates the fight that will never have a peaceful solution.

Politics based on ideology has no place in a modern and peaceful world. The corrupt officials in high office ‘WANT’ this conflict to continue so aid money is stolen for their own greed.
Follow the money, of the aid agencies and charities - if this all stopped, what are the financial losses. We can create the narratives that benefit our own self serving aims.

There really is no point in going round and round in circles about this. You clearly think there is a threat that Iran has nuclear weapons and will attack multiple other countries (because some analysts and U vd L said so) and that this theoretical risk justifies all the violence. I am far more worried about them all triggering a massive escalation in violence, even a WW3 scenario. I would not put this past out current leaders.

Yes you keep saying BBC and BN when I’ve said I’m not relying on those. Why is that?

As for the second paragraph, fine you can think that but for a fair while now the issue of Iran developing nuclear weapons has been a concern. If I were to look back I’d question Trump’s removal of JCPOA and whether we’d be somewhere else now. It’s hard to know and we can’t turn back the time. But whether it’s talks, treaties or not most are agreed Iran having those weapons is a high threat.

‘ many Zionist support a two state solution’
Absolutely in a perfect world where we can negotiate and live alongside our neighbours without harming each other.
Palestine/Hamas do not want this solution - when will
People understand this point of view?

The best solution is to disarm/destabilise Terrorist groups and states that support them and stand absolutely firm on the basis of being able to defend your countries freedoms and security.

As I said, if you choose to believe Netanyahu's accounts of the last 30+ years and some unnamed analysts on the BBC, that is up to you.

I don't think Iran has nuclear weapons nor do I think is it nearly at the point of developing them, as Netanyahu has suggested for 30+ years. I therefore don't see a nuclear risk from Iran. What I do see is repeated violence and aggression from the Israelis and The West now joining in actively as opposed to just supplying weapons, intelligence, etc. That is what has actually happened, not something that you and some leaders are concerned about. If you and they genuinely believe that we are at serious risk of attack, then you all need to own the consequences of the actions that you are supporting.

Yes you keep saying BBC and BN when I’ve said I’m not relying on those. Why is that?

And what makes you to believe that John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs are unbiased sources of truth?
John Mearsheimer in particular is pushing Putin's narrative about West being guilty in war in Ukraine. I wouldn't trust a word he's written.

Both John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs are very knowledgeable. They offer relevant historical context to current world events; the are not justifying anyone's actions.

If only we had the humility to accept the west has made some serious foreign policy mistakes we might be able to learn from them and avoid making them again but unfortunately we seem unwilling to do that and that means yet another world war, with all its death and destruction, looks increasingly likely. When it's all over we will survey the wreckage and vow to never let it happen again......until the next time.

The evidence suggests that, collectively, humans are the stupidest species on the planet.
