Silly things that give you the rage

Maybe its cos I'm peri but we were out for a meal and someone was eating chicken wings and being very meticulous about using a knife and fork to eat them and very slowly. It was holding up the next course for everyone.

Do you have any examples of getting the rage over something silly 🤣

Men who immediately whip off their tops at the merest hint of heat/sun. Chavtastic. I was delighted to see signs in the supermarkets some years ago saying ‘No shirt, no service’ or similar.

Only recently have I noticed cyclists in the cycle lane going the wrong way on my commute to work. Yeah, it’s a cycle lane, no, I don’t think you should be going in the opposite direction to the traffic!

Sun's oot, taps aff.

I really dislike the noise of hand driers and it pisses me off when people use them in public bathrooms. Can we just provide paper towels please? It's so much less of an assault on my senses.

Eta - going along with the theme of assaults on senses - I really dislike people smoking or vaping in queues. I am unable to both stay in the queue and not be in the cloud of vape/smoke and I really resent the crap options available to me in that scenario.

The latest toilet trend at school is students using the hand dryer at length in order to cover the noise of a friend peeing. Honestly gives me the absolute rage. If I’m on lunch duty, I stop them. What a ridiculous waste of electricity!

People who sit on the inside seat on trains and put their bag on the other seat and only move it when you say is anyone sitting there? Which is actually code for move your bag you ignorant twat.

People who have such little linguistic imagination they use clichés like "grinds my gears."

Yet idioms such as these are hugely encouraged in my subject-languages-at school. ‘Complex language’, apparently.

Same and women who wear short shorts that show camel toe.

Someone driving into the parking space you taxed in your head! Especially when it was the last free one.

CruCru · 02/07/2025 11:11

Oh God yes, men wearing no shirt in the middle of town.

I also hate bad tattoos (which most are).

Anyone who asks a (large) favour but makes out that it’s for your benefit. “So next weekend, as you’re not around, why don’t I take your car to Oxford? I could do a couple of errands and it would do it good to have a proper run!”.

The thing is, if the person had said “Cru, I’m really stuck. I need to drive to Oxford on Saturday but my car is in the garage. Please could I borrow yours?” I might be all right with it. It’s that prickling feeling when you know that someone is trying to manipulate you.

Oh yes especially if they end their request with "win win" or some such nonsense.

My phone when it doesn't recognise my face or says "no face detected". What have I got attached to my neck then?

Ads that pop up with the tiniest little 'x' in the corner to close it down. If you do actually manage to click on the tiny 'x' it opens up their website anyway

After the late Queen died, a few businesses near me (mainly estate agents) put black and white portraits of her in their windows (fine). Except they left them there well after the new King came out of official mourning and started work. I know this is silly because it doesn’t affect me but it’s the sort of thing that actually looks quite disrespectful - the estate agent mourns the Queen more than her own family. I expect that, once they were up, no one wanted to be the one to take them down.

I feel a bit the same way about the silences for 9/11. A friend’s father was killed in the World Trade Center and he finds the silences quite weird and upsetting. It’s performative grief.

Shayisgreat · 01/07/2025 07:30

People speaking to their children in really loud voices in cafes as if they are hard of hearing but are actually just wanting to make it clear that they are excellent parents.

Ditto parents in airplanes. Just give them a tablet and get over yourself.

I've no issue with children being noisy but parents don't need to be!

I'm from the south west and pronounce draw and drawer slightly differently to both with one syllable but draw is a longer word.

Websites that make finding their search bar a sport.
When you finally find it, it states item not found and to make matters worse, their filter is not broad enough.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 30/06/2025 19:48

Vinted sellers stating an item is ‘new with tags’, followed by ‘only worn a few times’ in the description.

FaceTime/calls with no headphones.

People writing ‘rediculous’.

People writing ‘could of’. Do they not see ‘could have’ written anywhere and wonder if they are getting it wrong.

Season instead of series.

When people don’t put their weights away after their done at the gym
Our intern responds with ‘huh’ rather than ‘pardon’ or ‘please can you repeat that?’ It reminds me of my 4 year old and the urge not to correct the intern is hard

Agree about the intern. There’s one at my work who often says ‘wait, what?’. So irritating.

“I like my sports” would imply that there are certain sports the speaker likes, @grumpygrape, whereas “I like sports” suggests they like all sports. But I could be wrong here.

grumpygrape · 30/06/2025 19:09

I like my sports.
You are into your music aren’t you ?

No,

I like sports.

I know language evolves but what are these extra words for ?

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 30/06/2025 16:31

@idolikealiein 😂 true, prancing about in your dress. Some people have no manners! 😅

Agree, I won't buy clothes or crockery especially that's placed on a manky carpet for photos.
Could come from wherever, but it's the seeing it.
I would see that carpet everytime I ate off the plate. Had to let go of a beautiful full Wedgwood set because they were placed on the floor with a dog bowl centimeters away.

Another one, people who look at your dress/top label without asking.

I imagine they've been lied to before or such, but find it rude. Just ask & I'll tell you.

I won't buy anything that's being modelled by the seller in the photo. Nope, don't want to see your sweaty body in my new dress thank you very much

This is something I see on eBay occasionally. A pair of used shoes in a photo resting on a kitchen surface. Maybe they disinfect the surface afterwards, who knows, I just don't want to see it . Think of the shite that's going on a place where you next put your sandwich.

Apparently, I now not only have to ‘Believe in Better’ (Sky), but also ‘Believe in Chicken (KFC).

Maybe you could save a bit of effort and Believe in Better Chicken? I'd be tempted.... 😁
