Silly things that give you the rage

Maybe its cos I'm peri but we were out for a meal and someone was eating chicken wings and being very meticulous about using a knife and fork to eat them and very slowly. It was holding up the next course for everyone.

Do you have any examples of getting the rage over something silly 🤣

Apologies if I’ve come across as a bit of a tosser on the “Mc/Mac” - it’s come from a lifetime of having a Scottish surname where that extra “a” changes the entire intonation of it (regardless of whether you’re Scottish or from anywhere else in the UK) - maybe that should have been my petty rage 😂

People who are not ready to get off the train when it pulls into the station. People are waiting to get on and will if you don’t make it clear you are still getting off.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 23/08/2025 00:21

People who resort to name calling at any opportunity. Crass!

Agreed, but I also hate when the last person in the queue stands about 10ft away from everyone else then you join the queue where you think it ends and some nob declares "I'm in the queue!!" (Happened to me at a pharmacy a few months ago, made me want to go off on one at the stupid man)

To quote my own reply, I also hate people who mill about near a queue but mot in it, so you stand behind them and ultimately look at tit when it transpires they aren't queueing (this happened to me at hospital the other day...I was fuming)

I love regional pronunciations. I think this one, Mac vs Mc, is based on a misunderstanding though. If you don’t know the origin of mac you might think they’re two different words. But Mc is just an abbreviation of Mac (not much of one it must be said). So like Mr is said the same as Mister, St as Saint, Rd as Road, they’re actually said the same, or at least they were originally. They’re often written interchangeably on old records too.

Obviously the pronunciation of Mc seems to have changed some places and that’s fine, it’s what happens.

But there is no need for pps to be ‘getting the rage’ when people say mack for things like McDonald’s or McVities. It’s the original pronunciation and is still very widely used. That’s my point.

Different areas must have different pronunciations, @Winegumsandbullseyes - I say McVities, not MacVities. All part of life’s rich pattern, I guess.

Indeed.

And getting the rage because of a differnt regional pronunciation makes you (not you, but "one") a bit of a cunt, IMHO.

Yes, I know the spelling is actually McVities, but pp said ‘say’, not spell.
Mac and Mc are said the same way where I am at least (Ireland, where the word originates).
Mc is just an abbreviation of Mac.

People who either stand in the middle of or walk really slowly in the middle of travellators at the airport! They block everyone else from walking past them….it drives me insane.

People who sneeze more than, say, twice in a row
People who sneeze loudly - gives me the fucking rage

Yes, IABU

I sneeze at least 15 times a day, you’d hate me.

I would guess it is that you don’t put an ‘a’ in, when it’s written McDonalds/McVities, @Winegumsandbullseyes - I don’t know how to express it, but it’s a very short uh sound - shorter than the ‘u’ in muck. Does that make sense?

What’s wrong with macvities?

People who answer their phone with "hello?" when I know damned well I'm in their contacts, making me say "hi, it's Naptime".

Oh I’m SO bad for doing this - except, I wait for the person to say “hello” first - this is for 2 reasons - my DF, who worked in fraud prevention said you should never speak first on an unknown call, because 90% of the time they’re trying to scrape your voice for voice recognition, 2) - my work phone is directed to my personal phone a lot of the time, so I’m never sure who I’m speaking to!

People who say macdonalds. It's mcdonalds. It's literally right there in the name. Mc

It's convention / shorthand for "please can someone support me".

not something to get enraged by, that someone out there is having a tough time.

Zov · 21/08/2025 17:36

ANY thread that has 'HAND HOLD' in the title! 😠 They get instantly hidden by me.

I just feel such rage when I see HAND HOLD.

Why do you need a hand hold? Are you 3? !!!!!!

Me getting lemons out of those bloody net bags! Why do I always try and rip the bag open and get cross before getting scissors out of the drawer? Idiot 😂
Most people in the supermarket.

queenofthesuburbs · 17/08/2025 10:40

People (teens) who answer your call, but don’t say “hello” or even “yeah?” Just silence, so the person who is making the call has to say “hello? Hello?”

Also the teen/young person slight pause before replying.

OK if it’s a difficult philosophical question, but for everyday life the “flow” of conversation has changed

tamedcomicpoem · 17/08/2025 10:14

My pet hate (well, one of them!) is people who say 'Legos' - usually pronounced Lee-goes.

It's LEGO - singular. No 's'.

You do not play with Legos. You play with Lego.

@Treesandsheepeverywhere 💯 with you re voicemails.

i can't stand it when people gabble so quickly and slur all their words together.

it may sound a bit weird when I do it but i deliberately talk and say my phone number slowly, because I do actually want the person to call me back otherwise I wouldn't bother leaving them a message !

I do too, and always repeat my number so they have a chance to grab a pen.

Other bad ones are when you think you've been pocket dialled when they take their time to finally talk.

I’ve moved house recently and made an appointment to go to a new dentist. I asked for a checkup and teeth cleaning (I desperately need a cleaning). Get there this morning, loads of faffing about with X-rays and a quick check up, but they can’t do cleaning on the first appointment. Why didnt they say that when I called. I took time off work and spent 2 hours there, and my teeth are no cleaner!

I left raging, probably disproportionately mad, but OMG what a waste of time.
