To think all MNers hate men?

Corriganscans · 21/06/2025 12:49

I’m a lesbian so I don’t date men and I like women both to have relationships with and as a species! I’m a feminist and share some of the views on men that seem to be very prevalent on MN. I don’t hate men though. I actually feel a bit sorry for boys and young men today growing up in a world that is very critical of them (a view which I’ll probably get flamed for which’ll further prove my point!) I struggle to understand some of the clear contempt and, often what appears to be hatred of men from straight women on here. How do you date/fancy/fall in love with them if you have such negative views of them? Or is it just that every single woman with these views just happens to have one of the good ones? I doubt it. Isn’t it not that different to a misogynistic straight man who hates women but is happy to date them (thereby pretty much objectifying them for their own needs)??

Also, I used to host foreign language students and always requested girls. After being sent a boy by mistake, I realised how much easier they were.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/06/2025 15:38

No, I don’t think that. However, I think men are less likely to want to marry a woman who is already married, particularly if she has children.

Are you trying to find moral virtue in shagging opportunistically and without discrimination instead of wanting to be married?

EscapeToSuffolk · 21/06/2025 15:41

Let week, someone on here said something like murderers should be hung (wasn't that - I can't remember what was said), especially if they'd killed a child or a woman.

As the mother of two adult DS's, it made me feel a bit sad.

I think it's utter stupidity to not treat everyone as an individual. Wars start when we hate whole groups of people. But then mumsnet is a law unto itself - it isn't representative of the general population.

So you think that married women never get pursued by single men?

imhe men are usually the pursuers, whether they are the married one or not

ExpressCheckout · 21/06/2025 15:35

I agree with most of your points OP.

I think there are a small number of impulsive misandrists on MN who blame men etc. for all the unhappiness in the world.

That said, there are also those here who are quick to accuse people of misogyny, and sometimes that feels impulsive, too.

In my personal life, I probably have 50-50 contact with women and men, and I don't really distinguish them in the way some posters do.

At work, though, that's a different matter.

Through many jobs I consistently find that the worst bullying and harassment was ... drumroll ... perpetrated by women.

I could also say the same for racism and homophobia too. I've had to work for some truly awful women ... mostly in the public sector! 😢

Regarding relationships ... hmm, I also think that both women and men can be lazy and useless, just in different ways.

It sometimes does make me 🙄when a poster on here has clearly expected her DH to be the breadwinner, for example.

Similarly, the alternative reality of those expecting relationships to be 'the one' and to last forever - I find that a bit weird and naive as well.

Political leaders - well, yes, the evil leaders of Iran are of course all men, as are vomit-inducing imbeciles like Trump or Lee Anderson💩

But again it depends. Criticise Truss or accuse Kier of being weak and people cheer. Criticise Angela or Rachel and you're a misogynist!

But I do feel sorry for boys in our society. Many of them lack decent role models at home, at school or on the BBC in the media.

None of this excuses the DV or abuse of a minority of women by men. But the vast majority of men are decent human beings.

So why do so many women allow it? That's what I don't get before kids do they put up with it, is it 50:50 or is it on mat leave?

I see this among my friends. Love, sex and a hopeful outlook get them to the point of kids and co habitation. By the time you're in that deep, you have joint finances and a shared home. My DP is brilliant domestically but we wouldn't still be together if it wasn't for DS. Neither of us would be willing to be a part time resident parent. Unless DP was awful then like loads of people, I just suck up the endless annoyances and the lack of excitement.

And sometimes women do a lot of heavy pursuing. Yes, the men have to take responsibility for cheating, but the women have to take responsibility for choosing to go after married men instead of single, available men.

So you think that married women never get pursued by single men?

Bridport · 21/06/2025 15:34

It seems men are always the guilty party.

Not always guilty but almost always.

98% of adults prosecuted for sexual offenses are men.
92% of suspects convicted of murder in England and Wales are men.
80 to 90% of terrorists are men.
80% of people arrested for violent crime are men.
Mass shootings are 40 times more likely to have been carried out by men than women.

Bridport · 21/06/2025 15:31

pinkglitter12 · 21/06/2025 15:14

I also feel sorry for boys and men today. It seems men are always the guilty party. So much more sympathy for women than men. So much focus on improving chances for women whilst ignoring male needs. Think we're at a turning point where now men are starting to find this unbalance unfair and are fighting back. I'm female and I hope things improve in the future for my sons sake.

Men get paid on average 14% more than women.
87% of billionaires are men.
In the UK men hold 30% more wealth than women.
Women hold less than one-third of the top jobs across various sectors, including politics, law, and business

This is why there needs to be focus on improving chances for women.

Where is the balance unfair?

If men are fighting, what are they fighting for?
Why should we consider mens' needs when they clearly already hold the winning cards from birth?

Corriganscans · 21/06/2025 13:11

I don’t think women are negatively generalised in the same way men are. Of course I don’t like all women but as a group they are not seen as negatively as men (for good reason imo)

To address some of the other responses re women who start threads about the shit the men they know personally have put them through - that’s not what I’m talking about. Everyone has beef with other people they know male or female. I’m talking about views on men in general

I'll recommend going to forums dedicated to men. It is eye-opening.

No, men don’t block women from entering places (even though they do) they throw things and try to set fire to them.

Lol - it's not the falling in love that's the problem for straight women OP, it's what comes after.

So many men are completely happy to exploit a woman's unwillingness to see her children suffer in order to have an easy life.

Eventually, though, many women realise that they are not loved in any meaningful sense. They're there to shop, cooks, scrub the toilets, wipe up the sick, look after the kids in every regard and have sex with. If a better one came along and they could have her, they would.

Lots stay because they're conditioned to need a man or because they have internalised the idea that their value is related to having a man.

But eventually many leave. And by speaking to other women or seeing endless similar stories on Mumsnet, they realise that they didn't have a faulty one - it's endemic.

Even nice middle class liberal men (lol) will allow women to do all the shitwork and pretend they don't see it. So few willingly work as a team.

So why do so many women allow it? That's what I don't get before kids do they put up with it, is it 50:50 or is it on mat leave?

Yes another american example (cannot help it they are the worst).

There is no male equivalent of this woman.

Are you drunk? Or are you actually suggesting that men don't try and block apparent non residents from accessing private residences? Americans shoot people who step on their lawn ffs. If this is your best evidence of unique female evil then maybe... you have a poor case?

Are you genuinely saying that because racism exists, misogyny doesn't matter?

Because that appears to be what you are saying. With a lot of shitty Americans as examples.

I hope your message to your son is to help himself and other men, not to fight women for what they have.

For example, male mental health. Loneliness, a lack of relationships, a feeling is being lost, all terrible and epidemics right now. What is it caused by? Men relied on women to be their social secretaries. Now that women are staying single more (because a lot of men are pigs and we don’t need them) and men are favouring hook-up sex from apps, or forming relationships, men are lonelier and more isolated. There’s some statistic that married men describe their wife as their best friend about 60% of the time. Married women 30%. The obvious solution for your son to avoid this is to prioritise being a good friend, making social connections, having a real monogamous relationship not hook-up sex. Being worthy enough for a woman to commit to. Doing things that promote mental health, like volunteering and helping others. Exercising, eating well, having hobbies outside the home, not drinking too much, not taking drugs, not playing too much on electronics. All of that he has power over.

Instead of which some men look at their loneliness, lack of connection, lack of power, lack of educational or job success in the world and think women somehow stole it. And they blame women and hate women for it. Making themselves even less dateable and therefore even more lonely. If you teach him to hate women, he will be lonely and miserable.

Bridport · 21/06/2025 15:22

this idea that women are all nice and light while men are vile is extreme ignorance.

Nobody is saying that women are all nice but men.

This will piss people off probably but like 75% of the time when a woman says 'I just get along with guys better' it's because they're surrounded by men that act nice because they're attracted to them.

I think a lot of women on here and everywhere really have unrealistic expectations of men. They are less complex than us and some women expect them to be mind readers and think the same way as us and its just not possible. I'm not saying all men are bad or rude or stupid they are just wired differently to us. Men can be great, i love my husband more than life itself but i do not expect too much from him.

I think this sums it up. Lower expectations means less disappointment

It is also absolutely not the job of single women to attempt to seduce married men. Doesn’t stop ‘em doing it though, does it?

It is absolutely not the job of women to make sure men stay faithful. If your marriage is built on the hope that nasty women won't try to pursue your husband, you're probably better off single. This is the absolute definition of misogyny - women are not responsible for the actions of men.

I suppose women just get to an age where we've been made to feel afraid by a man, been hurt by a man, witnessed a man exposing himself in the street or pissing in a bus stop, have had men shout filth at us from a van, have been mansplained to, had a man push for something to which we've not given consent, put up repeatedly with a man who won't pull his weight on the domestic front or have seen one too many men picking nose, spitting in the street, fighting at the football or walking along with his hand down the front of his tracksuit.

On the whole they don't bear close inspection.

Yip, this. That spitting man is someone's treasured son, that pissing oaf is someone's hard working husband. But objectively, this is vile behaviour.
