To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

Struggle on in ignorance then.

Wait till OP discovers that not only do sone people not have multiple bathrooms, some people don’t have utility rooms either…

I’m struggling to believe that one bathroom houses are as common as is being made out. What an absurd proposition.

Even the ghastly shoe box new builds which have sprung up everywhere have at least two.

If I was to consider acquiring an older property with one bathroom, I’d certainly conduct due diligence on the ease at which a further one could be installed.

It’s 2025, goodness me.

If I was your DH I would have shit in your bed

Cherrytree86 · 21/06/2025 12:23

Gloriia · 21/06/2025 12:21

Yes why is he producing such notice stenches? I can go into any bathroom after anyone in the house and not be repelled.

Maybe he needs to eat better?

Whether you eat MacDonald’s or a plate of broccoli - shit will still stink.

Gloriia · 21/06/2025 12:21

Evaka · 21/06/2025 12:11

He should investigate why his shit smells so badly.

You are being incredibly unreasonable to command a man not to poo in his own home.

Those saying they don't poo at work are also unreasonable, holding in isn't healthy and pooing is an incredibly normal, mundane bodily function.

IanStirlingrocks · 21/06/2025 12:20

But, but then his colleagues will be subjected to his nuclear level stenches every day and have to work through it in a heatwave?

MyHouseInThePrairie · 21/06/2025 12:19

WarmDeer · 21/06/2025 12:14

Our downstairs bathroom is off the utility room and easily separated from the rest of the house, so the smell doesn’t escape as it would upstairs. Whilst that was out of use, he was happy to relieve himself elsewhere each morning.

No he couldn’t be bothered with the fight.
Very different.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 21/06/2025 12:19

TesChique · 21/06/2025 11:35

I poo at work every day. How do you not?

I’d much rather poo on works time than my own - it’s one of life’s small pleasures!

Kelly1969 · 21/06/2025 12:19

Bjorkdidit · 21/06/2025 11:58

Do they? I don't. The normal frequency is between 3 times a day and 3 times a week so it stands to reason that many people will need to go while they're at work.

Only on MN have I seen the expectation that a poo is supposed to conveniently appear in the narrow window between getting up and leaving the house in the morning for work.

The point is OPs DH is in a regular pattern of going for a dump before work.
whats with the “doing his business” op?
Treat him like a dog and talk about him like he’s a dog, you’re a delight aren’t you!

MyHouseInThePrairie · 21/06/2025 12:18

1- you dint have a downstairs bathroom but a downstairs toilet.
2- insisting your dh waits until work or goes to the gym is controlling!
3- you’re not even mentioning if that applies to you too!!
4- most people have a ‘schedule’ of when the body will be ready for a poo. You don’t just wait a bit longer like you would for a wee. Cue for issues with constipation. That is if you dint have bowels issues and urgency….

If you had tried that with me, I’d have laughed at you badly. Followed by telling you to f* off if you had insisted.
I mean if that was that much of a problem, you could have spent the day out if the house instead.

@WarmDeer

when you get divorced OP you might need to live in a bed sit with one bathroom. Divorce can be very expensive. And you’ll have to smell your own shit.

Hi 👋 I have a house with one bathroom in 2025.
IMAGINE 😱

So do I. I live on my own but there are plenty of couples and even families on my street. They seem to manage with one bathroom.

Get a grip; you sound very entitled. It's a fact a lot of properties in the UK have only one bathroom - and that the bathroom will be the only room with a WC, so shared by everyone who lives there.

The drive to build all new properties with a separate downstairs cloakroom is relatively recent - and also very sensible.

Definitely a wind up post, 1 toilet houses are extremely common

Even if both toilets were in action the smell would still be there?

Seriously? What a charmed life you lead. When we were house hunting loads only had one. We wanted 2 toilets, which we got only by having an en suite, which wouldn't count in your mind apparently as it wouldn't be useable for you! And we felt lucky to have that. Plus you know some people live in flats etc? And not everyone has spare cash for building work.
