To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

I have a partner who could strip walls with the odour he produces. We have 3 toilets and so he uses the one downstairs to preserve the respiratory tract of everyone else in the household.
I would never ask DP to not use a household toilet however. Delaying our need to go to the toilet is unhealthy; and it would be very unreasonable on my part to expect this of him. He wouldn't listen to me if I asked anyway; and quite rightly.

Cosyblankets · 21/06/2025 08:49

No way would anyone be telling me what I can and can't do in my house that I pay for.
Controlling beyond belief

butterdish93 · 21/06/2025 08:45

and what do you suppose those of us with one bathroom would do in this situation?

One bathroom?! What madness is this? We should petition for charitable support for those suffering the horror of ONE BATHROOM immediately!

No one should be living in such deplorable & unsanitary conditions in this day & age, my god woman!

Won't somebody think of the children!!

Hercisback1 · 21/06/2025 08:47

It's his home. Open a window and get your smelling salts out.

WithIcePlease · 21/06/2025 08:47

I'd tell you to fuck off
Ridiculous
Also it's not healthy not to obey natures 'call to stool'

spoonbillstretford · 21/06/2025 08:47

Once again, my mind is blown by people not just pooing when they need to either at home or at work. How do you hold on? I'd be in agony!

He works in a large corporate office - capacity for about 3/4000 employees. It’s not a single toilet in a cramped space!

Makes no difference. It’s his home, FFS.

Cakencookieobsessed · 21/06/2025 08:46

That's creepily controlling. He'll leave you one day and I wouldn't blame him.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 21/06/2025 08:45

How would the smell fester all morning?

Doesnt your toilet flush? Do you have a fan or windows?

AngryBird6122 · 21/06/2025 08:45

ThriveIn2025 · 21/06/2025 08:42

This. We don’t poo where I work. It’s one shared toilet and there is a very much spoken rule regarding this.

@ThriveIn2025 so if someone needs to go then what?

PonyPatter44 · 21/06/2025 08:45

Perhaps he needs to see the doctor, or change his diet. I think its totally unreasonable to expect anyone to poo elsewhere.

Pre poo toilet drops or sprays are surprisingly effective. So is flushing and opening a window.
What happens when his colleagues ask him to Go before he arrives at work?
I think you were out of order embarrassing him by telling friends

Starlightstargazer · 21/06/2025 08:43

There is something called poo pouree I think? But Yabu to make him go to the office

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 21/06/2025 08:43

How do you think the thousands of people who live in houses that only have one toilet manage?

Talk about first world problems! 😂

BeardieWeirdie · 21/06/2025 08:43

I have a poo within about 10 minutes of getting up, there’s no way I’d agree to your plan. If he stinks, surely a squirt of cleaner will sort it (for him to do, obviously). Having “only” one loo is the norm in my world, not some terrible affliction.

springintoaction321 · 21/06/2025 08:43

Boredlass · 21/06/2025 08:38

I’d have told you to jog on. No way I’d agree to this especially as I’d never do that at work anyway. I live in the house so I’ll shit in the house

This x 100

FFS

What about all his work colleagues??

Coffeeishot · 21/06/2025 08:43

You are insane both of you ! Do you not have a window and some airfreshner.

Starlight7080 · 21/06/2025 08:42

So he helps pay for a house he can't even s##t in ! Mental.
You sound like hard work.
Have you heard of opening windows .
Air freshener
Bleach
And so on.
What do you think people with one bathroom do !

hididdlyho · 21/06/2025 08:42

So you were happy to inflict the nuclear stench on his work colleagues instead? 😆

Personally I wouldn't appreciate my DH suggesting when and where I should shit and vice versa, but it doesn't sound like you DH was offended.

ThriveIn2025 · 21/06/2025 08:42

LlynTegid · 21/06/2025 08:40

Why should his work colleagues suffer? Just open windows, or have some change in diet.

This. We don’t poo where I work. It’s one shared toilet and there is a very much spoken rule regarding this.

OddBoots · 21/06/2025 08:42

Does your bathroom not have a window?

Alaoap · 21/06/2025 08:41

Yabu, he can just febreeze or he can open the window. All shit smells, you just find a way to deal with that, that isn’t like you can’t shit in the room in our house that is literally for that very purpose.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/06/2025 08:41

The man can’t do a shit in his own home? Talk about controlling.
