To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

That's insane. However Detol with a dash of washing up liquid, mixed with water, in a spray bottle, instantly cuts smells. My DP has a stoma.

Serencwtch · 21/06/2025 09:22

Regardless of whether it's a reverse (or completely made up) It's coercive & controlling behaviour.

Cakencookieobsessed · 21/06/2025 08:46

That's creepily controlling. He'll leave you one day and I wouldn't blame him.

I hope he does. He's probably been controlled into submission by now. The OP is abusive.

EmotionallyWeird · 21/06/2025 09:20

When you need a poo, you need a poo.

If he can comfortably hold on until he gets to work that's OK, but he shouldn't have to. Ignoring the signal is not a good habit to get into and can lead to years of problems.

Tulipssndturkeys · 21/06/2025 09:19

I hope you never get bowel issues…where you have absolutely no control and total urgency to use the loo… you can’t just wait until it is convenient for your over sensitive partner to go - you have seconds warning and then have to go or have an accident . Can’t wait until you go to work …

pooing is a natural function . Bleach and cleaning fluids are readily available for the smell we ALL produce.

think you are being absolutely ridiculous dictating where and when he can go.

ObtuseMoose · 21/06/2025 09:18

I think you're lucky he didn't shit in your handbag!

Snort!

Comedycook · 21/06/2025 09:19

Majority of people in the UK only have one bathroom...how do you think they cope?

ThePoshUns · 21/06/2025 09:19

Omg you can’t dictate where and when someone has a poo. How ridiculous.

No way I’d be entertaining that. I’m a between 3am and 4am crapper, so wouldn’t be holding on for anyone.

The work has concluded and it looks like this is the final day of the heatwave, but if needed then he goes to the gym on weekend mornings so we had a contingency plan of him going there.

I'd have told you where to go. Is he completely spineless and just puts up with your controlling behaviour?

We technically have the en-suite too, but that has always been firmly out of bounds for anything but a shower!

This gets more absurd.

You have two toilets available at home and you are sending. DH to shit at work 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 21/06/2025 09:16

Wow. This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read.
We’ve just renovated a house and we were living in three rooms - one of the being the bathroom. At no point did I dictate that my husband or son couldn’t use the toilet when they needed to.
You’re being so unreasonable I can’t believe it’s real.

ilovesooty · 21/06/2025 09:16

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 21/06/2025 08:43

How do you think the thousands of people who live in houses that only have one toilet manage?

Talk about first world problems! 😂

Exactly. I've never lived in a house with more than one toilet. Lots of people only have one.

The more you post the worse it gets.
Completely batshit.

KeyWorker · 21/06/2025 09:15

It sounds like the kind of thing me and DH would say to each other, clearly as a joke. Obviously nether of us would in reality be told by the other which toilet we could use and for what purpose. It’s not clear from your tone if this is in jest, but obviously it must be.

Username075 · 21/06/2025 09:15

Hilarious 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

ButteredRadishes · 21/06/2025 09:15

Why doesn't he address the gastric issues he has?

TheAmusedQuail · 21/06/2025 09:15

Absolutely, 100% justified.

Colleagues will just have to grin and bear the nuclear stench unfortunately!

Pathetic.

NeedToChangeName · 21/06/2025 09:14

Poor man, to be bullied and shamed about a bodily function

If you were my friend, this would change my view of you

curious79 · 21/06/2025 09:14

WarmDeer · 21/06/2025 08:37

Because I don’t produce such nuclear level stenches, to be frank!

What goes on in men’s guts?! My husband could stink out a castle

Alltheyellowbirds · 21/06/2025 09:13

QuestionableMouse · 21/06/2025 09:09

How the hell does that work? I have IBS - there's some days where I'd have no choice!

It’s normal in a lot of workplaces I think, not a ban but you just try not to stink up the communal loo if you can avoid it. Just out of courtesy to colleagues.

i also used to have IBSD and was always v conscious of it 😩

Candleabra · 21/06/2025 09:13

This has to be a wind up. So you have two bathrooms, neither of which are to be used… What do you propose at weekends?
