To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

We technically have the en-suite too, but that has always been firmly out of bounds for anything but a shower!

so you’re down to 2 bathrooms…. But he can’t use any?!

Catdoorman · 21/06/2025 09:47

You are unreasonable to ask, he's unreasonable to comply.

Simplelobsterhat · 21/06/2025 09:46

I don't understand, doesn't it smell in the downstairs toilet too? (I don't control where people poo nor think normal bodily functions should be treated like a disgusting secret, but if I was going to I'd prefer to keep the smell away from areas where food / guests were more likely to be). Why does this particular toilet being out of action suddenly mean the house would smell more?

I really think someone's family should have to smell it more then someone's colleagues should? I know you say there are lots of toilets in work, but presumably in cubicles where other people will be in the room, soon after if not at the time?

Anyway, my husband works as a gardener with no access to a toilet unless he uses a customers' or leaves work, so we've had to develop a normal relationship with the people we live with having bodily functions and occasionally having to (shock horror) smell a smell we don't like

NooNakedJacuzziness · 21/06/2025 09:46

I never understand the problem of pooing at work. Unless there’s only one toilet and it’s in the middle of an open plan office. “I could never poo at work!” - oh the horror. People holding it in until they get home (or vice versa in the OP’s case 😆) is insane

OnionsNotBunions · 21/06/2025 09:45

Another thread that makes me glad I live alone.

cannotbetoobot · 21/06/2025 09:44

So you have en-suite as well. So he poos in main bathroom and you use en-suite! This is definitely a wind up poo troll post ! Weirdo!

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 21/06/2025 09:44

I was falling for it until your last post OP 😂😂😂 very good

💩💩💩

WinSomeandLoseSome · 21/06/2025 09:43

Totally unreasonable and controlling. You actually have two loos with the en-suite yet your husband has to shit in another place. God what a cow.

x2boys · 21/06/2025 09:43

WarmDeer · 21/06/2025 08:37

Because I don’t produce such nuclear level stenches, to be frank!

Well you know whst the say you can stand the smell of your own products but not others
I doubt yours is a fragrant as you think.

ItDoesntHaveToBeASnowman · 21/06/2025 09:43

I think this is a troll post.

However, i do think people are insanely (and surprisingly) zealous on here about their right to poo anywhere and fuck everybody else.

it’s also fine to not want to sit for an hour in someone else’s poo stench. Especially when they are not your family eg a work colleague.

We had a Virgin Media guy come to the house when I was 99 months pregnant. He was here to do a grand total of 5 minutes work. Then he spent 20 mins in the bathroom. The smell was absolutely unholy (night on the beers/guinness kind of vibe) and I was as sick as a dog with it. It was through the whole house. Posted here about it and was annihilated because this man had a right to poo apparently.

It can be absolutely disgusting

SameDayNewName · 21/06/2025 09:43

😂😂😂

Wildly unreasonable!!

Your DHs poor colleagues 😂

neverbeenskiing · 21/06/2025 09:42

This has got to be a wind-up, surely? I can't believe there are really people who are so uptight about natural bodily functions, and so controlling that they dictate when and where their partner shits!

If this is real, then OP I honestly think you should seek some form of therapy.

Iloveeverycat · 21/06/2025 09:41

I really can't believe there are people like this. It has never entered my head to he worried about who uses the toilet.

Nothinglikeagoodbook · 21/06/2025 09:41

You're obviously proud of your uber-controlling habits. You sound awful. Do you make your DH ask for permission every time he wants to use his own loo in his own home, just in case he produces a smell that offends you?

Have you thought of opening a window, striking a match, using air freshener?

cannotbetoobot · 21/06/2025 09:39

Alltheyellowbirds · 21/06/2025 08:56

That’s one of the most controlling things I’ve ever heard. It’s wrong on so many levels.

Firstly for most people office etiquette is usually to try not to do poos at work! How unpopular is he going to become with his colleagues if the first thing he does on arriving every day is take a big dump in the communal loo?

Secondly, how unfair that you are allowed to poo at home and he isn’t - if you really want this rule it has to go for both of you. You're behaving as if it’s YOUR house and he is merely a lodger who must obey your rules. You’ve made him a second class citizen in his own home.

Third, shaming him for having stinkier poos than you is just mean. And may or may not even be true - yours probably pong too but we can’t smell our own in the same way.

Fourth, if he’s regularly desperate to go and having to hold it in that is not only incredibly uncomfortable but may actually be damaging to his health.

YABVU.

Lot’s of homes only ever have one bathroom - do you think the wives in all of those homes ban their DH from doing number twos? Clue, they don’t. They open a window or use air freshener.

As someone said upthread, if a man was doing this to his wife there would be cries of abuse and LTB.

All of this 👆
I worked on ITU many years ago and one of the consultants would come in first thing and poo in staff loo every morning 🤢 I wonder if he had similar type of controlling partner !

whitewineandsun · 21/06/2025 09:37

This must be a wind-up, otherwise it is ridiculous and controlling.

Denimrules · 21/06/2025 09:35

LlynTegid · 21/06/2025 08:40

Why should his work colleagues suffer? Just open windows, or have some change in diet.

Smelly is generally healthy poo

The work has concluded and it looks like this is the final day of the heatwave, but if needed then he goes to the gym on weekend mornings so we had a contingency plan of him going there.

What the fuck

Iloveeverycat · 21/06/2025 09:34

but if needed then he goes to the gym on weekend mornings so we had a contingency plan of him going there.
BUT YOU HAVE TWO TOILETS!

cryptide · 21/06/2025 09:33

And don't you clean your teeth in the en suite?

ittersbitters · 21/06/2025 09:32

wtf!

You have a toilet in your en-suite that no-one uses? Seriously?

BarBellBarbie · 21/06/2025 09:31

Oodlesof · 21/06/2025 09:27

You got me!
I actually thought this was real! Nice one OP.

It was the post about the en suite that made me realise this is a joke.

Yes. Surely.
