To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

Not asked but told. Can you imagine the outrage on here if a woman was told by her Husband when and where she should use the bathroom?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/06/2025 10:38

If there’s one place you should be able to shit in peace, it’s your own bathroom!

Sadmummy3 · 21/06/2025 10:38

I'd have told you to piss off. Unless you were also only going to poo at work. Open a window, use air freshener.
My DH absolutely stinks when he shits to the extent his work colleagues use the other toilet if he goes at work (and their toilets are in an outside building) so I wouldn't inflict that on them every day
We only have 1 toilet but luckily we worked out how to open the window and use air freshener.

Marchitectmummy · 21/06/2025 10:37

Gosh how controlling and very immature. It's part of life, of he is eating the same as you which for some of the day is highly likely then you probably smell as bad to him.

RedRock41 · 21/06/2025 10:34

Assuming you are not yet in the throes of a grim perimenopause! Just hoping he is more understanding and discreet if/when your own bodily functions are for 1,2,3s all over the place even with 2-3 showers a day. Not to mention the many folk who suffer a bowel condition. May not apply now but none of us know what is ahead.

Your stand is precious, unreasonable and reflects on your icks that the man can’t go to his own facilities without feeling self conscious or being left in peace. Open a window. Clean the area. Just hope any DC not getting this same directive.

On plus side if this is the headline issue chez toi this week, life otherwise must not be too bad!

FFS what is it with fully grown adults and the horror of someone daring to poo in a toilet? It's a toilet, it's what it's made for, everybody shits it's a natural bodily function.

Yes it is a natural bodily function, but it is possible to use the bathroom considerately by using windows and flushing quickly and multiple times during the poo-mageddon.

saraclara · 21/06/2025 10:33

WarmDeer · 21/06/2025 09:03

We technically have the en-suite too, but that has always been firmly out of bounds for anything but a shower!

What on earth is wrong with you?

SarfLondonLad · 21/06/2025 10:32

Your DH is a much more tolerant man than I am.

Mintsj · 21/06/2025 10:31

I think he needs to improve his toilet usage.

Knowing that his shit has nuclear stench, he need to open the window as soon as he goes in and then as soon as the first piece of shit hits the pan, he needs to flush within about 1 second. Any more shit that he does needs flushing as soon as the cistern is ready.

there is no need to make the bathroom smell all morning if you flush quickly and multiple times.

my DH used to often shit and make the entire house smell so I told him to adopt the above procedures!

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/06/2025 08:41

The man can’t do a shit in his own home? Talk about controlling.

100% this..

rogue2025 · 21/06/2025 10:28

I’d be addressing the small issue. That isn’t normal.

rowenwren · 21/06/2025 10:28

If his shit stinks so much that it festers all day around the house, maybe he should see a doctor.

chipsewfast · 21/06/2025 10:26

You sound horrible quite frankly

The horror. Next you'll suggest she'll have the summer breakfast room out of action and she'll be forced to use the winter room for breakfast all year...

Or sleep in the first Mrs De Winter's boudoir.

We all know how that went off. 😬

WarmDeer · 21/06/2025 08:37

Because I don’t produce such nuclear level stenches, to be frank!

This is amazing. You actually think that, in the words of Andre3000 "your shit don't stank".

ItDoesntHaveToBeASnowman · 21/06/2025 10:25

See if I sat next to some guy at work who shamelessly farted all day long, I reckon most of you would agree that it was fucking disgusting and that I shouldn’t have to put up with that.

But if that same guy has a Guinness shit in the bathroom that adjoins the office, that’s fine, it’s a natural bodily function and fuck everyone else who has to breath that in all day?

GanninHyem · 21/06/2025 10:23

ItDoesntHaveToBeASnowman · 21/06/2025 10:19

Neurosis I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just don’t want to. What do you want me to say?

You know regularly holding in your poo is bad for you right? Then as you age, the damage to your digestive system will mean you might not have a choice.

Why doesn't he address the gastric issues he has?

Who's to say he's actually got gastric issues. Shit stinks, apparently OP thinks hers doesn't. Deluded is what we call that.

Genuinely can't believe people think this level of control is ok. Baffling.

You can mock but wait until she’s down to just one billiards room and then the proverbial shit really WILL hit ze fan.

🥉 for @WarmDeer for bravery in the line of being "down to one bathroom"

It brings a tear to the eye

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 21/06/2025 10:18

I genuinely can’t fathom why you think using the downstairs bathroom for shitting is more favourable than using the upstairs bathroom!!! Surely, you spend most of your time downstairs, so the smell would permeate all through your living/kitchen areas?

In any event though, you are a MASSIVELY controlling, utterly ridiculous knob! There were TWO AVAILABLE TOILETS in your house, TWO, and you banned your husband from using either one of them!!! Just think about how this would be received if the tables were turned…ffs!! 🤦‍♀️🤯

Ellie1015 · 21/06/2025 10:18

Obnoxious to tell someone where to go to the toilet. He should of course open the window and put some bleach in toilet if that bad but he should poo when he needs to poo.
