It's gone 10pm and the neighbours are still making noise in the garden

My alarm goes off for a 12 hour shift in 7 hours. It's Thursday night. Why are some people so unbelievably inconsiderate.

OP posts:

I struggle to get to settle and sleep with noise, once I'm asleep, due to being so exhausted, I can't hear an alarm through earplugs. I don't think that's unusual.

Sounds like a you problem

We've just had tea in the garden. Are you my ndn?

Thats a late tea! What time do you leave for work in the morning ?

So interesting you say this. When I first heard/read the word I thought this is such a good way to describe what I was going through at the time but I feel like lately the word has lost almost all meaning. A little bit like narcissism. Just my humble opinion.

Is it perhaps because so many people do it and so many people are high on the narc pathology that it seems overused.

Theroadt · 19/06/2025 23:42

10pm is a bit early to be getting so wound up. Can you not sleep the other side of the house just for tonight? Fair enough you have to get up early - maybe they get disturbed by your early start, who knows?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 19/06/2025 23:38

Disagreeing isn’t gaslighting. Look it up.

Denying her experience and reality as if she is the problem - yes that is.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/06/2025 23:40

My house is a tad noisy right now - it’s Prom night - I have 7 kids getting changed for after prom - it’s a one off and I have decent neighbours

you have to be up at 5 - some people work nights and go to bed at 10am - are you silent all day to accommodate their needs

every night it would piss me off as well but once in a while - that’s life with neighbours

Nothankyov · 19/06/2025 23:39

DoctorRoseReturns · 19/06/2025 23:20

Don't use gaslit to mean people have different opinions ffs

Pleaseshutthefuckup · 19/06/2025 23:38

@Donaldduck22 I'll go research and identify a more apt word for behaviour which is being a CF to posters, denying their experience is actually happening to them and instead suggesting they are the problem and their experience is not happening. Erm, one that suitably explains this phenomenon as a one off and not prolonged.

Come on. The line - it's just my opinion - is not an accurate representation of the messed up posts on here. A really common thing on here when a perfectly reasonable experience is turned on its head like the OP's. It is in itself nuts.

Disagreeing is saying something like ' I don't mind this personally. I don't work shifts'.

CF behaviour on here and you absolutely know it. Ripping the OP a new arse because she isn't a tinfoil disposable BBQ front lawn pie head.

It's totally gaslighting - not prolonged. I'll have to thus find something more apt other than that. More eloquent than cunt fuckery perhaps. 🤷

Different people with different health conditions need different amounts of sleep. I know what I need to be able to function and do my job properly.

Also it depends on your job, if you are selling shots of alcohol in a night club that’s different to being a nurse or operating heavy machinery in a factory ! But regardless of your job, it’s horrible having to go to work being sleep deprived. People should be more considerate, making noise when neighbours are trying to relax or sleep is just anti social any time of day or night. Everyone has the right to enjoy their home in peace . Parties are one off weekend events and advance notice should be given to neighbours out of courtesy and noise off at civilised time. Being a decent human being isn’t hard .

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 19/06/2025 23:38

Pleaseshutthefuckup · 19/06/2025 23:25

@DoctorRoseReturns Gaslighting someone out of their experience is exactly what the CFs on here do and plenty a post is doing, well just that - with respect 🙏

Disagreeing isn’t gaslighting. Look it up.

Wow wow wow. It's the witching hour. What sort of pie heads are replying to your thread, I really wonder.

OP, you are being gaslit out of your reality by the unhappy MN mob.

Not unreasonable of you at all. It's just decent behaviour to shut it. At the wknd you'd have more understanding. I get it. Some people just don't have decent manners.

Edited

The witching hour?
It's 10pm you absolute muppet. Bold of you to be suggesting others are gaslighting OP when you're literally redefining the meaning of common phrases.

I dont get back from the gym until after 10, and I too have to be up for work in the morning

Nothankyov · 19/06/2025 23:36

@Donaldduck22 yes it’s annoying. Mum is a nurse and did shift work like you so I can totally sympathise. I remember me and brother walking past her room in tippy toes trying not to wake her when she was sleeping. But it’s sadly life. You have to accept it. The weather in the UK is not always like this so people have to soak up as much of it to endure the winter (🥴 maybe that’s me projecting). Is there anyone that can take your plugs off after you’ve dozed?

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 19/06/2025 23:36

WeCouldDoBetter · 19/06/2025 23:12

I feel your pain OP. My neighbours kids were in the garden till after 9 tonight, keeping my DS (who is knackered and really needs a good night sleep awake). My other neighbours seem to be nocturnal and have no idea how loud they're being. It's so inconsiderate and uncool. Both sets of neighbours are late 20s/early 30s so may be a generational thing?

Closer to 50 than 40 and I’ll be up till about 4am tonight studying. I have music on but it’s a detached house and I’ve closed the windows. I have a fan on because it’s 29 degrees even now in this room.

We’re all night owls. Used to grind my gears when kids would be outside screaming at 7am and my daughter would be fast asleep. But that’s just the deal when you’re an owl in a lark’s world.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 19/06/2025 23:35

Donaldduck22 · 19/06/2025 22:07

No I can't use earplugs or I wouldn't hear my 5am alarm

Get a louder alarm going forward?

latetothefisting · 19/06/2025 23:35

AffIt · 19/06/2025 22:15

Jesus christ, what is WRONG with you people?

The OP is right, Thursday is a working day for the vast majority of people and an expectation to have shut the fuck up by 10pm is entirely within the bounds of normal behaviour. That's just common decency.

Seriously, the amount of people on here who'd start a fight in an empty room...

Um you're the only person choosing to use capital letters and exclamatives to make your point?
Pot, kettle, black!
It's 10pm, and OP has only said they're "making noise" not being noisy
People talking outside in their own garden at 10pm, call the police!

IchiNiSanShiGo · 19/06/2025 23:35

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 19/06/2025 22:11

Are you sure? I can easily hear my phone alarm through silicone earplugs.

As someone who’s recently bought silicone earplugs because of my DH’s horrific snoring, no I can’t hear my alarm, and then my DH has the fucking audacity to nudge me awake and tell me the alarm is going off. And why should I have to wear earplugs just to make someone else’s life easier?

MojitosAllRound · 19/06/2025 23:33

Surely the answer was to pop round and politely say I have to be up early, I know its a lovely evening, but please could you keep it quieter?

Maddy70 · 19/06/2025 23:33

Relax. Brits rarely have weather they can enjoy their gardens in. Put some ear plugs in.

30inaclass · 19/06/2025 23:33

Maybe they work on a day after your night off and say the same about you, OP?

latetothefisting · 19/06/2025 23:32

BaldingMum · 19/06/2025 22:08

Oh give over 🤣🤣

I know! Most earplugs are literally designed to block ambient background noise (i.e neighbours chatting in garden) but not an alarm blaring inches away from your head.

Put a fan on, that will block out some of their noise and most of them have timers so it will go off once you're asleep

rubicustellitall · 19/06/2025 23:32

I live in a cul de sac and it is 11.30 pm now..most have work tomorrow and kids to get to school there is a gentle buzz of families chatting (mainly about how warm it is!) and its nice. I have just made a coffee and me and dog are off to cool down outside in the garden.sat quietly and its lovely with the solar lights going and the grass slightly damp and a lovely breeze. Yes I should be in bed I am up at 6 but its very rare anyone can do this so sorry OP your just gonna have to suck it up!

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 19/06/2025 23:31

Donaldduck22 · 19/06/2025 22:11

It's called being considerate to other people.

There’s another thread about someone complaining about children screaming in a paddling pool at 4pm while they are trying to work. Consensus is that that’s fine, it’s what children do, and the complainers have no right to complain because they have chosen to work from home.

By similar logic, adults are fine using their gardens at nighttime and you have chosen a job where you need to wake at 5am, so it’s on you.

PracticallyIncompetentInEveryWay · 19/06/2025 23:30

Donaldduck22 · 19/06/2025 22:08

Some of us are up at 5am

And I bet they curse the sound of your car leaving for the early shift!

DoctorRoseReturns · 19/06/2025 23:29

Fundayout2025 · 19/06/2025 23:24

The OP hasn't even stated what kind of noise it was has she?

I'm hoping that they either shut up around 11 so she could sleep or she did manage to sleep despite it and she's now fast asleep

Bepo77 · 19/06/2025 23:27

Donaldduck22 · 19/06/2025 22:09

A vibrating alarm wouldn't wake me, I'm exhausted after an already 40 hour working week.

What do you do for a living it's obviously harder than all our jobs put together
