Will my neighbour ring the police on me for this

I know I know i'm terrible and deserve 25 to life, I'm an awful person, morally bankrupt. The heat has forced me to open all windows and all I have heard is people's shitty little dogs yapping all evening on and off. I just lost my temper, couldn't take it anymore and yelled out the window:

'take your dog inside before I take my rifle outside' and sure enough, the little shit stopped immediately.

Spare me the moral rant, I know I'm a bad person and I don't care, just wondering if I should expect a visit from the bobbies. And I have no rifle or any sort of criminal or even traffic background.

OP posts:

Bit harsh unless you were talking about an air rifle which wouldn't likely be lethal.

MsAmerica · 20/06/2025 03:47

What difference does it make whether we say yes or no? We can't predict.

Velmy · 20/06/2025 03:43

Try literally reading the op.

I can't be the only one that gets irrationally angry when people literally don't read the OP before replying?

What are you replying to? 🤣

SeriouslyStressed · 19/06/2025 21:52

Do you have a rifle?

Try literally reading the op.

PoopingAllTheWay · 20/06/2025 03:16

You were going to throw the trifle at the dog ! 😝

I often shout out loud at Things
The dogs next door, The Ring doorbell when partner is outside
Everything. I dont think anyone can hear me but it makes me feel better

Chickensky · 20/06/2025 03:06

If course it's not unreasonable to shout out a window for dogs to be quiet but why would you expect to have peace in a city "Noted by your own self the "most expensive city in the UK"? 🤷

It's not "over the odds" it's the cost of the benefits of living in such a location. I do not live in a city and do not have the benefit of it, neither do I want it. I love rurally where I have the annoyance of other things. Rent is rent, London income is London income.

Chickensky · 20/06/2025 03:06

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 22:06

myself and many other neighbours have already asked this neighbour nicely, its veryyyyy antisocial to deprive people of peaceful enjoyment in the most expensive city in the uk where they pay over the odds to live

MoneyMoneyMoney25 · 20/06/2025 01:58

How delightfully hillbilly, OP.

horseplay12 · 20/06/2025 01:46

We went to a place for Father’s Day dinner last weekend - it’s kind of a pub but also a ‘venue’
we got towards the end of the meal and there was a child (or a ghoul) shrieking at the other side of the dining room - we likened it to nails crawling down a chalkboard.
it was hideous - of the 6 of us at the table, 3 are Mums, 2 have worked in schools at varying levels their whole career and others. She squealing was horrific for us all, the mum st vocal were the ones who had worked with kids forever though. No excuse.

PuddledPeople · 20/06/2025 01:42

Yappy fuckers do my head in.

Here’s a business idea I cba to do, so go at it Willy Wonka Wannabes - gobstoppers for yappy dogs. Preferably peanut butter to be claggy in their mouths so they can’t yap but aren’t harmed.

ok calm down Carol, I wouldn’t actually condone the providing of gobstoppers to yappy dog, tempting though it is, it isn’t practical, special diets etc etc.

Oatshakenespresso · 20/06/2025 01:42

Stompythedinosaur · 19/06/2025 22:01

It's not in any way ok to threaten violence, obviously. Disgusting behaviour. The police probably won't care, unfortunately.

They don’t care that she was going to shoot an annoying dog with an imaginary rifle? Shame 🤣

get a super soaker op

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 21:52

As if, i'm on mumsnet for goodness sake. I just couldn't fucking take it anymore

Can confirm as someone who owns a number of firearms in the UK, and is member of a US gun club, that the police here do take it a bit more seriously if you threaten someone with one that you actually own 🤣

You, however, OP, simply threatened your NDN with a trifle. Best course of action is to go outside and pelt their house with said item, just to remove all doubt. Maybe bally up and do a drive by triffling from your car, throw up some gang signs etc.

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 22:01

threatening a dog probably isnt a crime lmao

Yeah but threatening to shoot a rifle is. Depends if the police think it’s serious and your neighbour may think you have a gun and are going to use it which btw is a crime. You may get a knock on your door. YABU.

Flashahah · 20/06/2025 00:42

GloriaHotcakes · 19/06/2025 22:01

If the police turn up say you said Trifle and you were going to eat it outside on such a pleasant evening.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think it should be.

Well that's a relief because they'd have your licence. If swat turn up I'd say yes.

It's a clever riposte though. I giggled. Tomorrow buy some ear plugs. I put an earbuds in and listen to Netflix etc

johnd2 · 20/06/2025 00:08

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 22:14

u know how to make it stop. be creative

Definitely feeding it some trifle would shut it up!

creamandstrawburries · 20/06/2025 00:05

That were me. I thought I heard something but thought I imagined it. I can’t make my dog stop. She is a very reactive dog. I’m at my wits end with her. I’m angry at her barking too. Don’t know what to do

PrincessofWells · 20/06/2025 00:05

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 21:59

straight up anti social behaviour. I also have some idiot who zooms by on a motorbike that he has modified to be extremely lous at 6.55am and again at 11pm. he is so damn loud that i can hear him with enough time to put my shorts and shoes on and step into the road when hes coming just to mess with him. i do this whole 'deer in the headlights' routine. he goes twice the speed limit. i love messing with him and pretending like i have no idea what im doing

Edited

Have you tried tying a rope across the road - about 2ft off the ground?

PracticallyIncompetentInEveryWay · 20/06/2025 00:01

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 22:04

yep hes like brian from family guy, he understands English.

Mumsnet needs a laughing emoji reaction. Loving your responses.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 20/06/2025 00:01

I have a park behind me, luckily most yapping dogs move on quickly. However my two pet hates are people who have untrained dogs who I have to listen to ‘Fido, Fido, come here Fido, no Fido, Fido, Fido… ad infinitum’ and the parents of kids playing football ‘go on jack, jack yes yes, get on, play left jack, left, left jack, go on, no, no, ref, get on, jack play right, get the ball….again ad finitum’.

If threatening with rifles was legal, I actually have a great spot with the right angle to erm. Alas. I only have a nerf gun.

shedroof · 19/06/2025 23:58

Dog owner here. When my dog is in the garden the moment I hear one bark I bring him inside, I refuse to be that neighbour who lets their dog bark in the garden! To be fair my dog has clicked onto this and so now very rarely barks in the garden as he know it will mean coming inside. He does like a bark at the front window when another dog has the audacity to walk past. Fortunately we live in a cul-de-sac so it’s not too often!

JohnTheRevelator · 19/06/2025 23:58

I expect 6 police cars,2 police vans and 15 coppers will be round shortly. 😂

Taytayslayslay · 19/06/2025 23:49

ButteredRadish · 19/06/2025 23:02

I think there’s a difference between a dog reacting to something it’s heard and barking for 1/2 mins until their owner has managed to get off the toilet/out of bath/downstairs etc and get the dog back inside, and those selfish gits who just leave their dog outside to bark continuously.
We have a puppy who has just learnt how to bark and is currently discovering what is & isn’t his ‘kingdom’ to defend with his little woofs ie: he is barking whenever he hears another bark and any loud noises from the neighbour. HOWEVER I do not ignore it and he gets told no very firmly every time he does it and if that doesn’t stop him, he comes straight back in.

Both my neighbours have dogs, I'm in the middle. Every single evening without fail, all the dogs are in their gardens at about 10pm. One barks, setting the other two off. This goes on for up to 30 minutes and then one side brings them in.

I can't complain, my sons autistic and can have some very loud outbursts at bedtime🤣. I do my kids bedtime, finally sit to relax and the dogs are barking 😂😂

PUGMEISTER21 · 19/06/2025 23:47

I cant stand dogs.
