Peri high sex drive - how long did yours last?

Following from the recent thread asking when your perimenopause symptoms started and when they hit their peak...

For the last year or so, I've been driven crazy with an insanely high libido. I'm 41.

Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun, but I'm genuinely concerned I'm going to either lose my job or get arrested at this point!

For others who experienced this when you either hit peri or hit your early 40s, how long did it last? Or did it never end, and if so, how old are you now?

I kind of want it to last forever, but would also like a break from feeling quite so insatiably horny! 🫠

on a light hearted note proper loving both of those ideas :)

I did both. Successfully and without incident too 😁

@FishersGate @Gettingbysomehow did you try hrt?

Been on systemic HRT for nearly 2 years. Battling though local oestrogen which is the only assistance with vaginal atrophy

3luckystars · 19/06/2025 10:01

I hope it lasts forever!!

With me about 2 years from 54 to 56. Inappropriate crushes too, a nightmare!

The age range of peri is insane isn't it! You might get impacted at 38 or 58. Nuts!

It lasted a couple of years for me, my theory is it's nature's way of saying if you want a baby , be quick. A biological 'This offer must end soon'

My libido dropped off a cliff but HRT is bringing it back somewhat.

My crushes were real life and my age I was always very aware of not coming over as too sexual as I have seen this with women and sadly they get the piss taken out of them an it can be uncomfortable for others the over flirting

Im happily single so having a lower libido isn’t an issue in a relationship and I now find the vast majority of men tedious

it’s incredible how our hormones have such an influence on how we emotionally and physically feel I find it fascinating

Yes I have to keep myself in check so that I don't come across as a tragic middle aged Carry On character! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes I can relate to the ridiculous crushes bit! I can watch a whole tv series without knowing what on earth it's about, just to drool over the hot male protagonist 🤦🏼‍♀️

It's hard to navigate changes of libido in any relationship but I am post divorce and in a new-ish one (just under 2 years) and really worry about it, as I know one of the things we have both really enjoyed is the sex. Although our relationship is not just about that I would not blame him if we called it a day if that part just wasn't working for him anymore.

Yes I imagine the excitement of it being relatively early days in a new relationship would give you a boost regardless.
The unknown of what our hormones have in store feels like walking around with an undetonated bomb doesn't it.

It never happened to me. I became 100% asexual as soon as peri started. I feel like a cloisterd nun.

FishersGate · 19/06/2025 07:26

2 years then vaginal atrophy hit me like a train and its gone the other way

Not sure. I think lm (EVENTUALLY!) on the right dose of HRT. My sex drive has soared in the last 6 weeks or so! Husband is super happy and so am l. Hopefully it continues but we shall see... It takes over a year to get to this place and in hindsight had peri type stuff going on for 5 years. Ignore the doctors as 39 isn't too young for it 🙄

How old are you?

This is interesting, I've never heard of an increased sex drive during peri, I've only ever heard of a decrease?

The public rhetoric only seems to refer to a decrease in sex drive. But in reality it seems it's the opposite for more women than not.

Picklechicken · 18/06/2025 22:27

I find this so interesting. It’s so far from what I’ve experienced, like others on the thread my libido has just dropped off a cliff. It’s like a switch in my head has just gone, HRT makes no difference whatsoever.

Subbyhubby · 18/06/2025 22:22

Both my DP and I developed a high sex life at the same point in our lives. We struggled to keep up a bit. But (and it’s not for everyone) we joined a local group who are into ‘the lifestyle’ and really changed our sex lives dramatically. For the better! We’re now on a few apps, both of us feel ‘satisfied’ a lot and we’ve made some lovely long term friends, which I had previously struggled to do as an adult.

Six years! I remember waking up around 45, and thinking odd thoughts like 'i can't grow old having never had sex in the woods.'

Are you still in the 6 years now? Or dud it end?
