Iran - full evacuation of Tehran?

Fitasafiddle1 · 17/06/2025 04:18

Genuinely finding it hard to sleep now having seen the news that Tehran - a population of 10 million are being urgently advised to leave. Is anyone else feeling very concerned (and nervous) watching what is now taking place in the ME? It is being reported that Israel have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran?

That’s kind of worrying even if Iran are a dangerous nation, that somehow wholesale regime charge can just be forced.

About 85% of the Iranian people themselves want full regime change, but have been murdered in their many many thousands many times for protesting for change.

There are Iranians all over social media supporting what Israel is doing. There are strong ties and warm regard between Israelis and non-IRGC Iranians, where they have still been able to communicate eg in diaspora.

Israel isn't calling for the whole of Tehran to evacuate, they are naming specific areas around military and regime targets to evacuate. Iranian people know they aren't the target.

The last thing Israel needed this week was another war but given the strong intel that Iran was only weeks away from developing nuclear bombs and holding them over everyone's head, and supplying them to their deranged proxies, there was no choice.

People can complain all they like about Israel, they will anyway, but Israel have done the world a massive favour and were the only ones with the balls to do it.

Bontonbonbon · 17/06/2025 07:11

@Duvety That is a massive, stupid over simplification. One of the stated aims of the Iranian regime is the total destruction of Israel and the death of all Jews.

To achieve this the Iranian government has spent millions funding Islamic terror groups to infiltrate Israel, Lebanon and Egypt. It was the Iranian government who funded the Arab spring uprisings which aimed to make fundamental Muslim groups the governing dictatorships in Northern Africa.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Israel is wrong but Iran is still the worst government for human rights violations and funding terrorism on a global scale. Not a single other Arab country would mind if the Iranian regime fell because it would suit Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia to not have Iran interfering in their countries anymore via proxies like the Muslim Brotherhood.

I absolutely love the desperation of all the Mumsnet armchair antisemites trying to square their hatred of Israel with the fact that it’s single-handedly toppling one of the most dangerous regimes in the world. Nice work, ladies.

Yeah, the slanderous accusations of anti-Semitism whenever someone criticises Israel has had its day. People have woken up to that little bit of gaslighting.
I don't think the bombing by Israel is improving the lot of the women in Iran than you apparently care so deeply about.
Iran is a dangerous regime, as is Israel. That does not mean civilians in either country (or Gaza) deserve to be bombed in their homes.

I can’t think of any situation where that has worked out well in the last thirty years. Regime change by bombing is a dangerous game full of unintended consequences

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 17/06/2025 07:09

Israel is not attacking Iran out of benevolence to help people from a brutal regime. Saudi Arabia is worse from a humans rights perspective, Israel isn’t bombing Saudi.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 17/06/2025 07:07

Israel are attacking Iran to undermine the source of funding for Hamas and Hezbollah. They are totally focused on achieving a full annexation of Gaza and the West Bank. Settlements and military control in the West Bank have been expanding exponentially since October 7th. Israeli leadership openly calling for the expulsion of Palestinians both from Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel. Their aim is to establish a Greater Israel. Once they achieve their stated aims in Gaza and take out the opposition (Iran), then it will be interesting to see how far they go (Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, no doubt all at risk).

Ah, so it was the government who committed all those atrocities on October 7th was it? Raped all those women, paraded broken women's bodies in the back of trucks like a bunch of animals? Worse than animals actually. Never have I been more disgusted.

Bontonbonbon · 17/06/2025 07:05

It is a weird time when posters are defending the most brutal regime in the world just because they hate Israel.

Just to point out. What Israel has done in Gaza has gone too far, absolutely.

But that doesn’t make Iran the good guy. They are one of the worst countries in the world for human rights violations. I say screw the Iranian government and I hope this gives the people of Iran the ability to topple the theocratic arseholes who seized power and destroyed their country.

Duvety · 17/06/2025 07:00

Oh okay, someone gives money to people we hate. Let's just bomb the country.

TomeTome · 17/06/2025 06:55

I think the Israelis are being lead by a violent immoral acquisitive madman. If anyone needs rescuing it is the Israeli people, fed a diet of propaganda’s and xenophobia, isolate from the world, their reputation in tatters.

We’re fine, honestly!

Usou · 17/06/2025 06:58

I'll put a fiver on it.

Tehran will not be carpet bombed.

Thursst0n · 17/06/2025 06:56

Usou · 17/06/2025 06:44

Where did this hysterical talk of carpet bombing come from?

Hardly a realistic option for a nation without a bomber fleet - and no grudge against the Iranian people.

Hasn’t hi is mate Trump got a boomer fleet, you know the one telling people to leave?

Usou · 17/06/2025 06:56

Nonsense.

notimagain · 17/06/2025 06:53

As @Usou hints at some posters need to look up the definition of carpet bombing before using the term.

With regard to statement such They were reportedly 60% of the way to full enrichment

For context you need to get to about 90% of the atoms in the metal being of the fissile prone type before you have basic weapons grade Uranium, and the bad news is as the rate is the rate of enrichment can increase as you get towards the higher percentages..

If the 60% claim is correct the Iranians were much closer to having a viable weapon than some sources are trying to portray.

Duvety · 17/06/2025 06:44

Can someone explain why Israel has bombed Iran completely unprovoked. I mean they may seem a "threat" to them but what have Iran actually done to them?!

Surely, you can't just bomb someone just because you don't like them and they're chasing up with you in nuclear capabilities. Who the hell do they think they are?!

Unprovoked? Iran fund and supply arms to Hamas and Hesbolah, you know..the ones who have been attacking Israel for years?

I can't stand comments like this. You think people would rather be shredded to pieces by israeli bombs?

Rather than what? Continue living under a prehistoric regime still stuck in the dark ages?

Hamas refuse to hold elections and torture dissenters. Palestinians deserve freedom, but hamas is not freedom.

knitnerd90 · 17/06/2025 06:41

the post about evacuating Tehran was from Trump.

Now, the Iranian regime is not popular regionally and this isn't just about Israel; it ties into multiple regional conflicts. the attacks on Iran are more popular in Israel than the Gaza campaign. I am suspicious of the timing but reportedly the IDF has been working on this for 2 years. Israelis are genuinely afraid that Iran will get the bomb. They were reportedly 60% of the way to full enrichment. The issue is that Israeli bombers don't have the capacity to destroy the Fordow complex, which they would need to do to kill the Iranian nuclear programme.

israeli news says there were fewer than 100 missiles last night and Israelis are wondering if Iranian capacity is lower than believed. Iran reportedly wants a ceasefire.
