Iran - full evacuation of Tehran?

Fitasafiddle1 · 17/06/2025 04:18

Genuinely finding it hard to sleep now having seen the news that Tehran - a population of 10 million are being urgently advised to leave. Is anyone else feeling very concerned (and nervous) watching what is now taking place in the ME? It is being reported that Israel have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran?

I’m not sure this is the main aim. It could be to get power that’s not so tied to getting nuclear weapons.

I mean people on this thread (in the beginning) going on about how they hope people will rise and this might be a new era for Iran
Unbelivable

The West and their pipe dream about “people rising” and new beautiful democracy 🫣 especially after military threats by a foreign power

yeah that’s exactly what happened in Iraq and Lybia and Syria… and Afghanistan…
all hunky dory!

some people just never learn

There's no need to be snarky. It's common sense, read any article or book on how people are radicalised.

Most people are radicalised on-line or, in UK, in prison

Amplepombear · 17/06/2025 15:23

I am glad that the U.K. foreign office has shown a mature response. From the Foreign Sec’s statement yesterday:

‘Ours is a hard-headed realist assessment of how best to tackle this grave threat. Fundamentally, no military action can put and end to Iran’s nuclear capabilities.’

I am glad that U.K. recognises military action is absolutely not gonna do this job.

Wait. What?

You are essentially blaming Israel for October 7. DAVRO at its best.

Am speechless. Shame on you.

Edited

No. I am not. This was extensively reported in both Israeli media and English.

hamas is still responsible for Oct. 7th. They did it. Israeli intelligence underestimated the threat.

that was the conclusion of the Shabak, no less.

Israel spy agency lists failures in preventing Oct. 7 attack

What went wrong? Israel's spy agency lists failures in preventing Oct. 7 attack

Israel's domestic security agency had Hamas' battle plans for the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks but didn't take them seriously. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deflected responsibility for the failure.

How are Hamas starving their own people when Israel blocks any aid? Israel and US then take over distributing aid and shoot 100s of civilians in the process.

Because Hamas were the cause of the current conflict?
Because Hamas think more of a pathetic sky fairy than they do actual humans?
Because Hamas refuses to release hostages?

It’s depressing. No one seems to have read anything or talked to other people. They just watch over inflammatory videos.

It’s an idiocracy.

It's not surprising. News outlets are not being allowed into Gaza to see anything for themselves or report back independently. This means both that Israel looks suspicious for not allowing it, and Hamas can say what they like without it being contradicted. It's a breeding ground for misinformation and propaganda.

So now you have a crystal ball ?

You'd better let MI5 know.

The people of Iran deserve better than their current leader, Netanyahu and Trump. They’re all callous bastards.

She was but others in her party who also refused were kept. They were told they needed to as part of the agreement for their release. This was in the few hours between them being arrested and Thunberg being out on a plane.

I admire and respect her work on climate change but the whole boat stunt was enormously misguided, as are all these attention grabbing activist social media things.

What did it do except inflame the situation?

It drew attention to the situation and the blockade.

So Thunberg didn't say October 7 was propaganda? I can't find any information on members of her crew saying October 7 was propaganda either. I'm not sure how tensions could be inflamed further given the situation though I suppose they're lucky they escaped with their lives, given what's happened to activists in the past.

User37482 · 17/06/2025 14:23

Oh god the people on that convoy, I felt really sorry for those police officers, some of the stuff was just deeply culturally inappropriate and also extremely rude. They had no awareness of how to behave, the narcissism and entitlement was something to behold.

I think they genuinely believed the IDF had built and were policing the border. Right at the beginning of the war in Gaza there were news reports showing Egypt reinforcing their side. I mean how can you miss it if you actually read or watch the news.

Hoooray · 17/06/2025 14:22

It's horrific. The overwhelming majority of those people are normal, loving, good people who have suffered under the Iranian regime and do not deserve to die for it. Telling a city of ten million to evacuate is pointless - imagine asking the entirety of London to leave in one go. Logistically impossible. This is an evil situation.

I think they just don’t think to check if something is true, I was watching one of these street interviews on a pro-palestine protest. Some moron claimed that millions of children had died in Gaza, the interviewer had to gently point out that there were only 2 million people in gaza. i mean the fatalities are awful and I never want to see another child amputee ever again. But you should know some very basic facts before you form a conclusion. I mean you may still hold the same view which is fine but at least try to understand whats going on.

It is truly amazing that the real world isn’t as simple as their Tik Tok bubble makes out, isn’t it.

I have seen reports that Greta Thunberg and her crew refused to watch footage of the October 7th attacks because they thought it was propaganda.

Imagine how far down the cult/ conspiracy theory rabbit hole you have to be to believe that. Bonkers.

Quite far down a rabbit hole. That’s the problem.

I haven’t excused Israel. I have pointed out that it is a Jewish state and I have also pointed out that some people in the region really hate Jews.

This is entirely relevant when discussing Israel and certain groups’ motivations for attacking it.

It’s not all about Gaza, however much some people seem to like to make out that it is.

Yup can confirm, not Jewish, never been to Israel but have lived in the middle east and a fair few people from the region are rabidly anti-semitic, same in Pakistan.

They hang it on Israel but a lot of people really really just hate Jews and they fucking love a conspiracy theory. Perfectly lovely and otherwise sane people will start frothing at the mouth and banging on about Jewish conspiracies. Not Israel mind, Jews. It’s actually insane for someone who doesn’t really do racism to understand.

Anything they don’t like, some Jew did it. Personally if I were Jewish I’d take the apparent faith in my ability to run the world on the sly as a really really big compliment. 15 million Jews in the world, they must be scheming in shifts to attain such world domination. It’s pathetic really, total loser mindset.

User37482 · 17/06/2025 13:34

They have a public clock that counts down to the destruction of Israel. 🙄

I actually didn’t realise how misinformed the general public is about the middle east until I came on mumsnet. Theres a bunch here who get their talking points from tiktok but seem to have zero general knowledge.

One of the Gaza convoy people published a map of where they were planning to go on facebook, it was completely wrong and if they had followed it they would have ended up in the exact opposite place. The Rafah crossing isn’t on the red sea and Egypt is a sovereign nation who actually build the bloody great big blockade they were apparently trying to break. It was funny but also shocking to me that people who would go this far didn’t know even the basics.

It is truly amazing that the real world isn’t as simple as their Tik Tok bubble makes out, isn’t it.

Oh yeah as i said “well akctuuuuly it’s er metaphorical dontchaknow” I mean no-one who has an actual clock counting down to the destruction of your nation could possibly mean it, don’t you understand NUANCE!?

Bontonbonbon · 17/06/2025 13:59

@Thegreyhound It’s a made up word from whatever echo chamber of the internet pumps out propaganda for the Iranian government.

It coke across as highly misogynistic in intent because it is telling the reader that feminism is just a front for Western war mongering.

It undermines the plight of women in Iran so that the rabid anti- Israel groups can make themselves feel better about their tacit support for a country with the worst record on right for women and the LGBTQ+ community in the world.

It’s bollocks.

User37482 · 17/06/2025 13:56

I mean it’s not like you have to intuit anything about the Iranian regime from vague statements, hamas, hezbollah, houthis, doomsday clocks, nukes, erm “death to america” “death to israel”, I believe “death to the UK” has come up. I means they are basically islamo facists spreading extremism and misery. Estimate is 3 billion a year poured i to proxies (weapons, training, funding).

But you’ll have people who either very stupid, ideological or just malignant arguing that you don’t reeeaaaaaalllllly know, you couldn’t possibly ackkkktulllyyy knooooow what the regime is thinking. They’ve never hid it.

It is a valid question. However, however much I dislike Keir Starmer, he is not a war criminal wanted by the ICC so I am not that worried for him.

If it really was a question then the answer (for air delivered muntions) would be a very well protected storage facility very adjacent to or on the airfield tasked with delivering the devices (you can still see the UK cold war UK type facilities at Scampton and Waddington, either side of Lincoln)

There's no point in hiding the things in the middle of the civilian population.
