Iran - full evacuation of Tehran?

Fitasafiddle1 · 17/06/2025 04:18

Genuinely finding it hard to sleep now having seen the news that Tehran - a population of 10 million are being urgently advised to leave. Is anyone else feeling very concerned (and nervous) watching what is now taking place in the ME? It is being reported that Israel have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran?

It sounds like the US are weighing up taking out the nuclear capability, they are the only ones who can.

Times radio just covering the stealth bomber and how deep it is, saying it’s the time to do it.

I guess we’ll see

I also am not going to engage with that poster. I prefer to engage with people who can debate politely.

If you are talking about me, please can you tell me where have I been impolite to you?
I apologise if I have been. It is an emotive topic.

I'm not going to argue about this as I'm not going to be accused of "derailing".

Fair point about not derailing the thread.

Starmer is the first one who has introduced this legalisation on accurately recording data so actions can be taken.

Stop spouting inaccuracies.

If this is true how is it that Starmer can't "smash the gangs" - side issue, I know !

Yes... it's very evident that certain posters are obsessed with Israel so find it hard to criticise any other countries actions over anything. Because they always have to return to "yes but...Israel worse".

Not a healthy mindset. The Israel government have made plenty of decisions I disagree with but that doesn't mean other countries are blameless by comparison. Iran in particular.

You call genocide of Palestinians ‘bad decisions’? Glad the ICC disagree with you.

Israeli PM is wanted in many peace loving countries in the world, including the U.K.

alikelylass · 18/06/2025 10:02

Fitasafiddle1 · 18/06/2025 10:00

That isn’t actually true. The U.K. leads with the accuracy and depth of intelligence sharing, and is highly respected globally as a result. It’s the one thing the U.K. is extremely good at.

Yes. Starmer has made us look very weak. Not trusted by Israel to share intelligence, not trusted by the US.

People are conflating different conflicts and have decided that since Israel is in the wrong in Gaza, and they attacked Iran in the same time frame, they must also be in the wrong when it comes to Iran.

but if you look at the very different reactions of other countries, Iran’s history in the region, and the history of the attempts to control nuclear weapons in Iran you see it’s very different. Iran is a sovereign nation with a proper military, which Gaza is not.

Now, I don’t trust Netanyahu, so I do find the timing suspicious. However the concerns with Iran are legitimate. And unlike with Palestine, there is not regional unity (in principle if jot action) on the topic of Iran.

noblegiraffe · 18/06/2025 00:24

I don't believe that the UK government has the slogan 'death to Israel, a curse upon Jews', do they?

Like, the Houthis are literally spelling it out for you and you're still trying to pretend that it's nothing to do with it.

Do you think Netenyahu turned militant overnight or was there a pattern over the last forty years when the world wasn’t paying as much attention? Do you think that might have anything to do with the sentiment in the region? Only peace could solve this, not destroying hundreds of thousands of Palestinians over the last decades. Do you think that may have something to do with tha hatred of Israel in the region?

Between the two regimes, Israeli regime has not exactly been sending flowers to all the Muslim countries around them, including Palestinians and has refused for decades to follow any international rules, including the right wingers (who are in power) assassinating the one PM who wanted to stick to the Oslo Accord and bring peace to the region. Israel has been running a large number of covert ops and proxy wars and is as guilty as the others. And now more.

I don’t know which Jews Houthis hate but I am sure we all equally hate militant Islam or whatever faction of any religion turns militant. As you can see, I abhor organised religions and I believe they are a key issue here. But even in my eyes, the only way forward is to bring all to a table, not attacking and killing people.

If you look at the heart of it all, it is a land and resources issue, not even a religious fight.

Starmer is quite dangerous because he is spineless but craves power. He bends with the wind. Trump has him in his pocket.

Israel are the villains right now. They are actively accused of genocide and have attacked Iran

There seems to be a certain mindset that can only see Israel as ‘villains’ and therefore all other considerations like attacks on Israel, countdown clocks to the annihilation of Israel and actively stated hatred of Jews must be dismissed otherwise people might get the idea that it’s bit more complicated than goodies versus baddies.

I am wondering what it means for the people of Iran.

I’m not sure how much worse it could get for women in Iran.

@SpotOnKid "If Israel hadn't started all this, Iran wouldn't be now so hasty to do what they r doing."

Really?

Iran has been attacking Israel covertly for years using terrorist groups, and you want to blame Israel?

Wow !

It is changing, I dealt with a number of academics there, many western who’ve spent a number of years in the country.
Their view is that the theocracy saw the way the wind was blowing and realised it would be losing battle to try and maintain the old order against the will of the majority. Hence they’ve just stopped enforcing the unpopular laws

The attacks brutal actions in response to the protests in the pp, were you made aware of that while you were there?

Thank you for your respectful posts everyone, and for sharing personal experiences of Iran and other places.

It sounds almost western in the way you relay young couples in jeans and uncovered, do you think women feel safe and respected in Iran? If they have become more moderate and secular then who are those keeping up the hate campaign in Iran? I think you are suggesting the more traditional, older generation - and the younger generation is different? Changing?

Headline on my morning news feed is "Donald Trump demands Iran's unconditional surrender".

Pisses me right off! What right does he have to "demand" Iran surrender? They didn't start this. Israel attacked them.

What right do USA, Israel and others have to "demand" they refrain from having nuclear weapons?

If course, I understand the concerns with them having nuclear weapons. But one country can't just demand what another one does. It drives me nuts! I would love to demand that Israel, a rogue state accused of genocide, doesn't have nuclear weapons! but it's not our right.

We need to leave other countries alone and stop demanding things, invading them, trying to change their own regimes.

Can you imagine if China came along and "demanded" USA ceased from holding nuclear weapons, and that if Iran attacked them, they should agree to "unconditional surrender"

The west is not god. They are definitely not always the good guys either. Far from it. They need to stop playing god.

If the outcome to this that Iran does develop nuclear weapons would you prefer that?

Iranian women were very much involved in anti regime protests, they have been whipped, murdered, many have lost eyes or been disfigured. The idea that women aren’t engaged here is for the birds. Brave teenage girls have taken their scarves off and danced and sang in public, numerous girls have been killed for it,

It’s why the anti regime slogan is “woman, life, freedom”. Most Iranian women and girls would be pretty satisfied with the regime falling I would imagine. They weren’t sitting at home they were in the streets.

I think you've quoted the wrong person.

It’s under the Rambam medical centre. It’s not a secret

If you ever want to know what Israel is or Israel does, just listen to what they accuse others of. It's pretty much always 100% and indicator of what they have just done, have always done, or are about to do!

Remember that 'we'd never bomb a hospital it was hammas'... Cut to 2025 and Israel has destroyed not just every single one of Gaza's hospitals, but also every home, school, all infrastructure and they have massively slaughtered the population.

Lovely chaps aren't they..
