Driveway wars - awkward petty neighbour

We live on a shared drive way (shared with 3 houses). We’re in the middle. Yesterday we had a friend over and I told him to park just outside of our house (on the shared driveway) as house 3 was out. An hour or so later house 3 arrives home - instead of simply asking him to move the car they sat there honking on the horn. It’s a short driveway, they could have parked at the end and walked down to their house (plenty of parking on street at end of driveway) but no. Friend went out and moved his car - no thanks, no acknowledgment. Once they had got passed friend moved his car back where it was.

10 mins later - horn honking outside. House 3 had decided to go out again. Friend goes out to move car. 20 minutes later more honking outside. I went out and approached neighbour asking why she is honking her horn rather than using her words. She said “I need to get to my house and there is a car in the way” 🙄 I said “yes, but you don’t need to honk the horn, just knock”. She said “can’t be arsed getting in and out of car”. I left her to it and friend moved car. Needless to say, 20 mins later, more honking outside.

now it was very obvious that neighbour was deliberately going in and out of driveway to make some kind of point. So we played her game and this went on for about 2 hours before she eventually got bored.

Today, we are having gravel delivered and they will be parking on the shared driveway. Normally I’d warn neighbour to let her know to get her car out of driveway so she doesn’t get stuck but because of yesterdays performance - I’m not going to bother. This isn’t the first time we have had issues with this neighbour btw. AIBU to let her get her car stuck? Chances are she won’t be going out anyway but no doubt as soon as she sees someone parked there she’ll suddenly develop an urgent need to go out 🙄

Wow!How entitled are you eh?! It's your neighbours drive way!!! If you want your visitors to have access to off street parking, move your car onto the street and let her use yours! No you think adding' insult to injury' by blocking her in with rubble is a great plan!!! Never make a diplomat will you!

lonelylou09 · 17/06/2025 08:43

O.P you and your friend/visitor were being unreasonable and you must know that. There's no need for you to block her access to her drive and then to muck about playing game wars repeatedly is just childish

anonforme7 · 17/06/2025 08:42

You act like it isn’t her right to come and go as she pleases from her parking space and home 🤦🏻‍♀️ she could have parked and left 20 times over in an hour and you’d still be in the wrong. Never ceases to amaze me the amount of entitlement some believe they have, you’re a CF OP and should apologise to your neighbour.

Manthide · 17/06/2025 08:31

Feeling very relieved we don't have a shared driveway! Our ndn on the right is bad enough without having to deal with this too! My exdh is annoyed if dm parks across our driveway- we live not far from the corner so she can't park to the right and there are other driveways to the left. She is in her 80s, has respiratory issues and I think its fine - she's visiting us! Exdh rarely leaves the house so I don't believe he is suddenly going to want to go out.

LifeReallyIsTooShort · 17/06/2025 08:08

I wish I knew your neighbours, I’d be supporting and guiding them in the right direction to seek legal advice and put you in your place once and for all. How you can sit there thinking your behaviour is acceptable is beyond me, you’re either unhinged or just plain nasty. I detest people like you who create unnecessary misery in peoples lives for personal enjoyment. Sick!

MadWorldSendHelp · 17/06/2025 08:05

Would you expect an emergency vehicle such as an ambulance, paramedics unit or fire engine to park in the road and walk while your visitor was parked there and would you say it was petty if those valuable seconds cost a life?

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 17/06/2025 07:09

You sound more deranged with every post! Grow up ffs!

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 17/06/2025 06:59

You are rude OP, and ypur so called friend isn't a good friend.

A good friend wouldn't behave in a way that antagonises your neighbours.
Any guest should want to be minimum bother to you and your neighbours, that's the decent way to behave.

You were both egging each other on, why spoil the visit having to go in and out than park appropriately and spend quality time together.

If this was your entertainment for the visit, sounds like you're both immature.

Pomvit · 17/06/2025 06:18

Dont block a neighbour in or out of their own home they shouldnt have to knock to get in or out. You’re the problem here

Fireflybaby · 17/06/2025 06:04

I think you should have been the one knocking on the door and asking if it's OK for friend to park there for couple of hours. Or as soon as you saw them driving in, you should have been the one approaching neighbours and say sorry, the guests will be here a while, do you mind if they park here or shall I ask visitor to move car.

Jrm61 · 17/06/2025 03:19

Apart from being totally in the wrong what happens if an emergency vehicle needs to get to neighbours house with a pile of gravel in the way
You could be in some strife
don't block driveway at all . Simple

butterfly1234 · 17/06/2025 01:57

OP, over 3,000 people think YABU. Have you apologised to your neighbour yet? Or will you at least try not to be such a CF in future? 😁

Rednotdead · 17/06/2025 01:44

P.S. I am so glad I don’t live next door to you.

Rednotdead · 17/06/2025 01:39

Did your friend block access to your neighbours parking space, if so, they have every right to ask your friend to move their car and you are being very unreasonable.

2021x · 17/06/2025 01:25

You are the A. I have a neighbour who does this and it drives everyone mad.

Your friend can park somewhere else.

fiveIsNewOne · 17/06/2025 00:39

It's funny how the CFs do the CFerry and than complain that their victim complains, but not in the way they would prefer.

WhiteJasmin · 17/06/2025 00:29

If the driveway is shared, it shouldn't be blocked at all times unless there's a removal truck or something that you have agreed in advance with the neighbours.

You said your neighbour can park on the street since there is plenty of parking, yet your friend who doesn't even live there, is entitled to block the driveway?

Scorpiogirl65 · 17/06/2025 00:27

Tarytino · 16/06/2025 08:37

Nope, we and they have been here years. It’s only recently that the woman has started this. Her husband is just bad but he prefers a passive aggressive approach

So you block her access often then..... YABVU. I wouldn't get out of my car either. Next time, tell your friend to park on the street and let the person that lives there have access to their parking spot!

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 16/06/2025 23:59

All I can say is I'm glad you're not my neighbour.

Marmiv87 · 16/06/2025 23:02

You sound like a nightmare neighbour

8am on a Sunday is too early

Your blocking her in, and getting annoyed at her for beeping.

you are unghinged

Seriously can you not see the problem is YOU not them?

freerangefool · 16/06/2025 22:56

I would do the same as you neighbour. I think your reasoning is outrageous.

Mumof2wifeof1crazytimes · 16/06/2025 22:55

You and your mate both sound like a pair of moronic ignorant kids. Grow up, find something to do with your life.

So how does your friend parking on your designated piece of the driveway stop the neighbour from entering their share of the driveway ? I’m baffled here 🤷‍♀️
I don’t think you should allow the workmen to block the driveway, it sounds like you are enjoying this war. It’s no use coming on here complaining and asking for advice when you are clearly throwing fuel on the fire and revelling in the aggro. YABU

It's three houses next to each other (all with their own driveway), but with a narrow private dead-end road running in front of the houses which they all have to drive down.

The narrow road out front is only wide enough for one car at a time, so if someone parks in front of the first two houses, no one can drive past to access their houses further down.

The friend was told to park in front of OPs house (no. 2), blocking the road, and blocking access to house number 3 'because she was out', OP was being a dick.
