Men pissing on toilet seat, why?

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 23:16

Just why? Why can’t they wipe it up? We have a communal toilet at work which everyone uses, however piss is always on the seat after a male has been. I know this because there’s only one toilet in the staffroom and everyone can see who uses it. This never happens after a woman has used the loo. It’s disgusting that other people are having to clean it up. Suggestions at what to do?

"Some men think sitting down is an affront to their masculinity. Those men are morons."

This is such misandrist crap. I've been in airplane toilets where the woman before has clearly hovered and got urine all over the seat. Perhaps they thinks it's an affront to their femininity to sit down?

Usually I clean it up because I wouldn't want the person after me to think I did it and left it like that.

It's not surprising though that if someone doesn't want to clean up someone else's mess they would just stand / hover instead.

PollyBell · 23/09/2025 04:50

I dont remember my husband ever doing this nor any man is am close too enough to use their toilets or them ours but I see it is a lot in female public toilets but on here we're told they are not revolting, they are gross in my experience

Because they don't care about it, and are rarely challenged.

It's horrible and lazy, I would put a notice up saying "Those with willies, please ALWAYS, lift seat before pissing...no one wants to sit in your wee."

Put up a sign "If you sprinkle
when you tinkle
be a sweetie and
wipe the seaty" 🙂

Beekman · 23/09/2025 04:17

Also, cleaning up a bit of wee from your husband or kid from time to time is a lot different to having to wipe up after someone you don’t live with.

As a regular user of public toilets I can tell you that is not just a man thing.
There are clearly women out there who are just as messy, gross and completely disgusting.

I was thinking this the whole thread. I use public toilets often and they are usually left in a right state, piss all over the seat for starters.

Incomprehensible to me that people don’t clean up after themselves in a public toilet, especially women who know the next person has to sit down. Even when there is a large queue, people don’t bother. I always shout “clean up after yourself” if one person exits and I enter to see a messy toilet. I honesty don’t know what they do in there, I suspect hovering over the seat might be a big part of it but they could still clean up.

At work I find people are a bit more considerate but not always.

Not to mention sitting on their phones in there but that’s for another day.

Agree my nephew at a youngest age not had the greatest upbringing but left wee and left marks on my toilet

in the nicest way I took him upstairs said do you really expect me to clean this. He was horrified and cleaned it up never to do it again

If I tried this with DP he would literally use 1/4 of a toilet roll to dry - not clean - it up! Leaving bits of wet loo roll behind in the process too!

Whenever this crops up on (maybe more international) forums, there are often professional toilet cleaners/attendants who claim that women’s toilets are often worse. A bit pissy in the Men’s but sometimes an absolute war zone in the Women’s, and not just confined to piss on seats from the hoverers.

Oh, and the ‘why don’t they dab with toilet paper’ thing? That’s not how cocks work in this regard. Men shake them for an anatomical reason. Apparently there is a method involving pressing along the … er .. taint into yer bollocks, but it sounds like a faff.

But who are these blokes who piss through the toilet seat rather than lifting it?

Re. This bit … “Oh, and the ‘why don’t they dab with toilet paper’ thing? That’s not how cocks work in this regard. Men shake them for an anatomical reason. Apparently there is a method involving pressing along the … er .. taint into yer bollocks, but it sounds like a faff“

…..but shaking it literally flicks pee everywhere. I know this because DP has a habit of merrily wandering into the bathroom for a pee whilst I’m getting ready, and I usually avert my eyes, but as I’d just cleaned the toilet and floor around it for approximately the third time that day, I recently watched as he was finishing his peeing - out of curiosity to see how he manages to get pee in so many places (don’t want me to look don’t invade my 5 mins in the bathroom!) - whilst his peeing aim was accurate (and the seat/lid were both up) as he shook “it”, pee flicked onto the back of the toilet where the seat is attached, and then onto the front rim of the toilet (which is how I’m guessing I find it running down the outside of the bowl on occasion). He obviously caught my raised eyebrow (he knew I’d just been cleaning the bathroom and I have politely requested before that pee is not left on the floor etc) and adjusted some of his behaviour - because usually he also drips on the floor. Whether that’s careless aim, standing too far back at the end of the flow, or yet more shaking, I don’t know, but if that was adjustable, the rest of it should be too!

I haven’t a clue about the full inner workings of a penis and its urination system, but I do know that shaking something with wet on the end of it will flick wet in uncontrollable directions. Perhaps it could be shaken into a couple of sheets of toilet paper, to catch said splashes if they must be shaken out, or whatever it is they do with it.

Either way, dripping/ splashing/ shaking pee onto things is unsanitary and uncivilised, regardless of who does it, male or female - although male urine usually has a stronger smell to it, which means it hanging around longer than it should provides an undesired unpleasant aroma to the room!
I don’t want to stand in or sit in or otherwise touch someone’s pee, and I also don’t want to sit or stand or otherwise touch where someone’s pee has previously been, potentially leaving bacteria (regardless of whether it’s allegedly harmless).

Yes, step one would be the pee splashers/drippers taking responsibility for their own mess and wiping up after themselves, but them not getting pee in any place other than in the toilet bowl at all (and thus not merely smearing it around with toilet paper) would be preferable!

I had a male relative stay for two weeks

When I tell you the toliet and the surrounds was covered in his piss

No lie

I ended up being so angry every time he did it I left spray and wipes on the seat and it still made no difference

Just vile

One morning I stood on his pee it was literally EVERYWHERE ON THE FLOOR aghhhhhhhj

He'd not have lasted passed day 1!

Throwaway65131 · 22/09/2025 19:54

DP moved in recently and oh my days am I fed up of having to keep cleaning the toilet! I already cleaned it pretty much daily, but this is, quite literally, taking the P! He’s aware he does it as well, because when I asked how he’s going through an entire toilet roll every other day (considering it was lasting me almost 2 weeks prior to him moving in), he said he’s using it to wipe up splashes when he goes to the toilet - apparently that is only happening for very big splashes though, because I’m still finding drops that are very clearly pee on the toilet and/or the floor (and yes he’s still doing the wiping up since my query about the toilet roll … since when he does so, I usually find toilet roll ‘bits’ on the edge of the loo or on the floor!)

But what I REALLY don’t understand is why they (the ones that drip - I know it’s not all of them because this is not the first time I’ve lived with a man, but it is the first time I’ve experienced this issue!) I don’t understand why they don’t do anything to prevent the dripping/splashing?!? Why don’t they dry with paper when they are done?! Shaking it may well dry it off but it just flicks the wet around, like it would if you shake your hands after washing them instead of using a hand towel to dry them! Surely it’s better to dry off any potential drips than it is to have to wipe them up?!

and also.. if they are just shaking off the drips, surely there may be more drips. Aren’t they then just putting pee onto their underwear? I can’t help but think if I merely shook myself off and didn’t dry after the loo, my underwear would very quickly need changing! Urgh!

In my DP’s case, it may well just be he doesn’t realise on the occasions that it’s smaller drips, perhaps can’t see them (or doesn’t care that much, thinks he’ll just do it later, collectively, who knows?) and the toilet is always magically cleaned by the same fairies that also do the dusting and the washing up etc etc ….. but in public toilets, especially when people can see who was in there last, why don’t they check after themselves? I always look back to make sure toilet has flushed properly and is left in a suitable condition for the next person - I’d be horrified/mortified if I thought I’d dripped on the seat or something like that!

Men are very definitely a different breed!

Thebibleofdave · 18/06/2025 13:11

Argh my ex used to do this and give me the absolute rage! After 45 years practice I could piss in an egg cup backwards from 20ft away-while blindfolded with my shoe laces tied together ffs! How in God's good name can you miss the toilet?!?

Who stands up and goes for a pee at work anymore? Most men have an nice sit down Infront of 10 mins of YouTube on the company's expense. I guarantee that if your boss is a man, it's him that's doing it.

That's a good point. A guy in my office openly admitted the same thing, why should he be in and out in a minute when the women got a five minute bathroom break.

There used to be jokes about B&B landladies' notices about leaving the WC as you would wish to find it. I only ever saw one once, in a Paris students foyer. It was fairly easy to decipher. Laisser le WC comme vous vouler ... etc I was 15, now 79, so can't remember the whole of it. It was long.
I have a male guest at the moment. On occasion he has been deeply embarrassed about spillage on the floor. What he hasn't noticed is the build up of a hard deposit on the porcelain from a reaction between urea and limescale. Needs pumice to shift it. Bring back Ajax.

IhaveanewTVnow · 18/06/2025 08:36

Exactly. It’s usually women that lead on the potty training. Just train boys to sit. I did and my sons are clean. My youngest won’t go near a urinal - thinks it’s weird to get your knob out in public view.

You say this like it’s some revolutionary idea you’ve had. All 2 year olds are potty trained and pee sitting down. Then they grow into men and of course they pee standing up. Your youngest will pee standing up as an adult too, it would be a very rare man who never does this. It’s perfectly normal for men to pee standing up and not make a mess. Only piggish men and women leave any mess in toilets.

I really think some mumsnetters live on a different fucking planet 🙄

They need to sit down! We should all teach our sons this.

Yes! Why on earth would anyone teach/actively encourage boys to pee standing? It's a recipe for piss everywhere.

I've lived with 14 different men in various houses (family, houseshares, DP) in my life and not one of them left piss on or around the toilet habitually. (One of my student housemates had a pretty grim drunken accident once, and was appropriately mortified.) Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never seen this as something "men" do.

None of the women I've lived with have done this either but some women's public loos have been shocking.

I really disagree with that. The minute particles that may be in the air are not remotely like sitting or standing in a puddle of piss. On any thread about hygiene I'm always astounded by the level of revulsion people have for perfectly normal natural human matter....dead skin cells on a towel that's been used once so must up in the wash, tea towels washed every 5 minutes etc. It's not like you stand over the loo breathing deeply is it? Leaving actual visible puddles and skid marks is inconsiderate and unpleasant but seat up / down is no more or less considerate either way.

Mumsnet loves some ridiculous hyperbole. I wonder how some posters function in real life the way they bang on about their bullshit on here.

TranceNation · 15/06/2025 23:53

My point is flushing the toilet without the lid down is just as grim a habit as peeing on the seat/floor.

Mixed loos are vile, smelly, sticky floors, piss over the seat, shitty skid marks, just awful. Thankfully the women's loos usually have dry seats and floor, no skid marks. Very rarely I find a blocked loo which might be due to flushing issues?

When I worked in an office we had

  1. A phantom shitter who didnt flush
  2. Piss on the seat more or less permanently.
  3. Someone put onions in the tank
  4. A woman who would randomly take the mirror off the wall and to her car to squeeze her blackheads
  5. A person who was so incensed that the grab rail was down that he partially wrenched it off the wall. All in the disabled loo. Only 2 disabled employees including me. Other bloke was in a wheelchair. People are nasty.

Man here 😀

I always sit. The old chap is far too unreliable. If standing, it can go in ANY direction and you (or at least I) don't have any control once it starts!

Gets worse with age.

Stand-up urinals are OK, but on a chodbin fellas, ALWAYS sit.

This is interesting, I never knew this was the case for some men. Thing is, it happens to me too & I'm a woman!

If I use a public loo, I hover (I won't sit down) if I need a wee but try to wee slowly because otherwise if I just let go it can go down my leg, you can't just control & aim into the bowl, it's definitely an age thing but even so you clean up after yourself.
