I don't agree and think you're tilting at windmills. Sexual assault and rape are specific crimes. Sexual activity includes anything sexual such as watching porn, sexting, filming, nudes and anything sexual that the child may believe is consensual.

Yes they are and they are part of this crime. You do not agree that penetrating a child with a penis without consent is not rape or penetrating a child with a finger is not sexual assault? What the actual fuck?

That is not sexual activity that is sexual abuse. Sexual abuse can be contact or non-contact of which the watching porn etc is part of. Why should we label it something different when it comes to gang crime and non-gang crime?

So it is abuse in the home but in a gang it is not abuse it is activity with a child? How can you justify saying it is not abuse when it is done by a gang but it is abuse when it is one adult?

Why are we frightened to call it what it is. My flabber is gasted at how many people will defend not calling it what it is. Abuse, assault and rape. Why are we pussyfooting around these abusers and rapists because we are too frightened to call it what it is?

I agree not all grooming leads to rape but almost all does so rape should be in there as one element of CSE should it not? Quite a weird take on crime - we cannot mention rape for those that are because some are not raped. Most are so yes we well can mention it and should. There is absolutely no reason why we cannot say raped.

However we can name sexual assaults instead of sexual activity no? Activity implies a choice and consent. Assault says it is not. It could say rape and sexual assault but it says sexual activity as that is specific in ensuring that consent is not there.

I engage in sexual activity with my partner but he has never assaulted or raped me. Sexual activity is not rape or assault.

I found this:

Child sexual exploitation is a form of child sexual abuse. The same 2018 HM Government report, ‘Working together to safeguard children’, defines “child sexual exploitation” as:

“…where an individual or group takes advantage of an imbalance of power to coerce, manipulate or deceive a child or young person under the age of 18 into sexual activity (a) in exchange for something the victim needs or wants, and/or (b) for the financial advantage or increased status of the perpetrator or facilitator. The victim may have been sexually exploited even if the sexual activity appears consensual. Child sexual exploitation does not always involve physical contact; it can also occur through the use of technology”.

Is this what you mean? You think sexual activity should be changed to rape? Rape is a specific criminal offence and not all sexual activity is rape.

Why haven't the Rochdale rape gang leaders been deported? This was supposed to happen years ago but apparently their human rights are more important than those of their victims. Must be incredibly traumatic and terrifying for their victims to know that their rapists are walking around free and consecutive governments don't give a shit about their victims.

The whole Human Rights fiasco should carry a sliding scale, if you commit a crime then your HRs are reduced, those who don't commit crimes should be protected from those who do. HR is yet another card to carry to keep out of jail etc..

Exactly my point!

Why is that not in the definition and the definition should clearly state this is rape not sex and that this is force and abuse not a reciprocal choice. The definition says implies it is a choice which it shouldn't be. The definition used to call it child prostitution and basically all they did was remove the word prostitute so the wording is still saying that without the word prostitute in there.

It is on the gov legislation site about sexual offences.

This is needed to uncover the rapists support network in place at the time (probably all still happily in their jobs). Police officers, council members, social workers all need routing out and exposing. It's great they get the rapists but everyone who enabled them needs exposing too. If you .don't remove the roots it will happen again

everyone involved in the cover up should be prosecuted.

Mistyglade · 16/06/2025 12:13

OrdinaryMagicOfAcorns · 14/06/2025 19:28

But what will they actually do?

Our prisons are full, they’re releasing violent offenders now. One of the reasons why they won’t tackle male harassment of women - apart from being mostly men themselves - is the sheer numbers involved.

I see. We don’t lock disgusting rapists up anymore because our prisons are full? Trotting that line out just illustrates your ignorance.

What we ‘do’ is lock these filthy c*s up and let them rot in the numbers wing where there is space btw with all the other pedophiles and mad sickos.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/06/2025 12:12

Everyone going on about 30 years ago, this was happening in Sheffield and Rotherham with taxi gangs less than 10 years ago

It still is in my own east midlands city, @ohdelay, and on the subject of taxi drivers a fresh nuance has appeared

Obviously there's a requirement for these to be registered, but private hire vehicles are now arriving without taxi plates or any other form of ID to confirm the driver is who they're supposed to be

Clearly nobody would suggest every taxi driver is a menace waiting to spring, but such laxity hardly helps, and neither does the council's refusal to do anything about it

A child 16 or 17 can consent as the age of consent is 16. So yes a child can consent if they are at or above the age of consent. But no child consents to being raped as rape is not consensual and CSE is rape not sex so it is never consensual no matter the age and even if the child is above the age of consent it is never consensual.

Which is why sex shouldn't be in there as it is not sex. They are raped. Sex is consensual rape isn't. So why is the word sex in there not rape?

But we know what happened.

Mostly. Do we know the full extent of it? The full extent of the cover up? To what extent it still goes on now?

It's the biggest scandal we've had and the establishment have continually tried to brush it off to protect themselves.

Are we having two now? One by the govt and one by Rupert Lowe et al?

Nobody is held to account but truth is important.

Liverpool fans fought for over 20 years for that inquiry just to get the truth out of what actually happened. Justice is another matter.

But we know what happened.

Waste of time and money.
Grenfell
Hillsborough
Blood scandal
Post office scandal

every single enquiry is pointless- no one is every held to account, they cost millions. We all know how grooming gangs came about, we all know the cultural coverup and motivations that allowed it to happen.

Nobody is held to account but truth is important.

What more do you expect to be revealed? There have consistently been reports and investigations for years. Do you expect names to be revealed of police and social workers who failed to protect these children?

This is the minimum that should be expected. Everyone going on about 30 years ago, this was happening in Sheffield and Rotherham with taxi gangs less than 10 years ago. Police officers took bribes and reported when victims got the courage to go to the stations. Care houses had taxis lining up to ferry girls around the country. Social workers smoothed the waters and assured anyone concerned that the girls were rotten and the problem. They need exposing and some need charging.

EasternStandard · 16/06/2025 10:50

So many used language and attacks to keep it suppressed. The latest from Labour over last ten months, ‘far right, dog whistle’ etc

Yes - that’s why there has been such a loss of trust . The “far right” “racist” insults flung at people whose only concern is that this scandal is not repeated…
And the deflection is still going on …
Why are some people so worried about a full transparent national enquiry ?

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 16/06/2025 10:44

I'm not here to say what I expect to be revealed. I expect them to do a proper fucking job of it and not a succession of papering up the cracks with underfunded, under supported, limited bollocks to show that they did "something".

You go tell her about why you don't think it's necessary then. I'm just adding to the conversation about what's happening next.

I'm just wondering what they are hoping to gain from the inquiry. It's usually set out beforehand so it will be interesting to see if they are going over old ground, trying to uncover how big this is, exposing safeguarding failures or questioning police and other agencies on failure to protect.

The definition of Child Sex Exploitation says that the child has sex with someone as a reciprocal agreement.

The word rape doesn't even appear in the definition but it bloody well should. Using sex/sexual activity instead of rape implies that consent was given as sex is consensual and rape isn't and the fact that it mentions a reciprocal agreement again should be removed as it is not reciprocal exchange at all. That implies choice and consent which there isn't. It also mentions paying for their service. Rape isn't a sexual service. Rape is an abuse of a person not a service. Service implies a choice.

A child can't consent.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 16/06/2025 11:19

Presumably the point she is making explicit is that this won't be couched among other cse types and the specificity of the crime won't be watered down. As happened in the recent cse inquiry.

Casey's audit will be published this afternoon. It was this report that supposedly changed Starmer's mind about the necessity of an inquiry. It marks out the scale and nature of the grooming gangs and establishes an explicit link with Pakistani men. So, we'll get more information later today.
