Is it me or is this f**king weird?? Saw my neighbour earlier, she’s mid thirties…kissing her mother on the lips. Cheek or a hug goodbye would do wouldn't it ? 😂

My family are all lip kissers. I don’t find it weird. It’s not romantic, FGS! We’re all big huggers and cuddlers too. We’re affectionate, and loving. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but it’s never felt uncomfortable to me🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve been rewatching Last Tango in Halifax and they all lip kiss. I don’t like it.

Reminds me of Paul and his mum in the first Sam baby diaries. Yuck

I think it’s weird. I associate lip kissing with romantic partners only.

Me too.

i wouldn't stop a small child doing it, but I'd always kiss them on them on the cheek/ head etc.

i have a Great Aunt that does it, but I try to get in there first with a cheek! I adore her, donuts ok if she gets there first sometimes.

but yes, to me, lips are for romantic kissing!!

I was raised in a family that don't kiss at all. The thought of kissing my dm on the lips makes me cringe. 😩

Ooodelally · 14/06/2025 06:09

It’s not something I’ve seen very often but yes, it does make me feel uncomfortable to see. I’m not a huge one for any physical contact though so maybe I’m the weird one…

I didn't know adults actually did this . Ive never seen it.

I used to find it weird and uncomfortable when my family from " down south" visited and greeted us with cheek kissing. It was totally embarrassing and not something us matter of fact northerners ever did.

I grew up in a lip kissing family and totally hated it. Always thought it was weird and pressured. ‘Come and kiss yer granny!’ Bleurgh.

I kiss my DC on the top of the head (when they let me) and that’s it.

Different families do things differently. That doesn't make it weird.

Nothankyov · 14/06/2025 01:31

I don’t think it’s weird. I think it’s not very common in the UK (maybe) but very common in Mediterranean cultures.

I was raised in a lip kissing family. To be honest I don't find it hugely comfortable, but my mum does still kiss me on the lips now when saying bye (I'm almost 40). My preference would be cheeks though! But it was definitely the norm in my family, and my DH's family all lip-kiss their kids too.
