Euguughhhh - they drive me nuts. I know I could leave but the group is 50% useful stuff (we have an A-road on our morning commute that is frequently closed due to accidents and the page always knows first, that kind of thing) and 50% utter shite. Does anyone else have these kinds of people or do I just live in a bonkers place?!

  1. One woman has set up her own cleaning company with her daughter (good for them - this is something I think is great). What irritates me is that, even though it's the two of them and no one else, they keep posting adverts that say people should use them because "unlike other cleaning companies", they pay their staff a "fair wage"... but they are their staff. I've never had a cleaner but my understanding is that you either go through an agency (where you pay a higher amount and the cleaner themselves get about minimum wage) and you get security that they'll find someone else if your usual cleaner is sick/holiday/maternity/whatever and they have solid insurance and that kind of thing, or you go direct to a self-employed person (you pay slightly less but the cleaner gets it all - after their costs) but there's less security (i.e. if they're sick then they're sick and won't be coming). This cleaner is trying to portray the best of both for herself... Just annoys me to try and claim some kind of moral highground when they don't have one.
  2. The people who post completely irrelevant, chain-mail jokes - usually pretty sexist ones about women being unable to drive... They aren't relevant to the group (and they aren't funny) - if you can't control yourself, just share them on your personal Facebook page.
  3. The people who see blatant vandalism or theft and go "oh, get a life" or "we were all young once", "I bet you ain't perfect". Like, you know, I'm a fully grown up adult and I've never once set an abandoned building on fire, egged anyone or left upturned trolleys all over a road. On top of that, as a grown fucking adult, I have the brain capacity to realise that setting things on fire and blocking emergency vehicles could do serious harm (even if that's not in the minds of those teens when they did it). On top of that, I know full well that when people my age (back when I was a teen) did anything like this, every decent adult would've obliterated them for being little shits... so, if teens are always going to do stupid things, when did adults stop doing their part of the routine?! Lo and behold, when the vandalising abandoned buildings turned into abandoning their business or when doing stupid thing turns into threatening them, they completely fail to recognise that they allowed that to progress by excusing the poor behaviour when it started.
  4. Parents bitching about the local school's "ridiculous" behaviour policy where their child was sent to the isolation room for politely asking if they're allowed to breathe or for raising their hand to point out a stray puppy was on fire. Like, no, your kid can't behave and it's embarrassing that you can't see you're being lied to.
  5. The people who refuse to answer questions that are asked. Things like one bloke asking if there are any recommendations for local garages and the first comment is "I don't have a car so I can't help, sorry"... like, why comment?! I once asked for recommendations for childcare - either a nursery or a childminder - and all but one comment was people saying to make sure the childminder has a DBS check. Like, ok, I'm not an idiot, that's not what I asked.
  6. Non-stop incorrect legal advice at every turn - "you can't do that, it's a violation of GDPR", "tell them to press charges", "I'll go over there and make a citizens arrest". I just can't take any more of it!
  7. People asking questions that are literally on Google - "does anyone know what time Tesco closes?" (not on Christmas or things where Google might not be accurate), "what's the phone number for the GP surgery?", "is it an inset day at the school today?" (cue 19847 different comments about the five potential schools that could be being asked about, none of which have an inset day and all of which have their calendars on their websites).

I just wonder if people were always like this and had different outlets (I don't really remember a time before Facebook) or are people getting weirder? Or is this just my local page and everyone is normal where you are?

I know it's gone midnight, this is slightly lighthearted...

If you think Facebook is bad, have you seen the posts on NextDoor? They are ridiculous, and more people on their without a clue of how to use social media!! Lots of lost cats, mysterious ring doorbell footage, topped off with a lot of moaning about things / life...

Ha yes, my local one has someone posting a painting (landscapes) almost daily and then saying ‘here’s what I painted today’. But they all look AI made and no one on the group seems to realise.

terracelane23 · 14/06/2025 06:24

Cant you just leave the group or block the people who annoy you?

cardboardvillage · 14/06/2025 06:19

There’s an old git on my road who always comments rude and aggressive answers to random
posts. Example, temporary traffic lights again on the A road. Took me 30 minutes to get through. So annoying. Him: get up earlier, leave home
eaelier. Ok great! Ill drop my 5 year old off at school at 7am. They can wait in the car park

Redglitter · 14/06/2025 02:26

The ones that annoy me are the ones about bad driving. 'To the driver of the Red Audi reg W4NKR who was driving far too fast in School Road you're going to cause an accident. Slow down

Never in the history of FB has anyone read a post like that and thought Jeez that's me. Omg shes right my driving is awful. But thats it im changing my ways bow. You're right Janet thank God you posted

“Cat looks lost”

it’s a cat! It’s out for a walk/catching mice/harassing neighbours for food/doing secret cat things

although my old cat used to lay out in the garden on his side until he had a small crowd all wondering if he was dead and then snap one eye open Blush to make everyone jump

This made me chuckle. Tell us more

Well, one of the family children had a fall out with another kid at school so there was a whole drama about that, then he decreed that adverts can only be on a certain day (unless it’s his mates or family) and any info about any local crimes must go to the local police….via him.

The sheer volume of lost dog posts baffles me. How do you keep losing your dogs?? I’ve never once lost my dog. It has not proved difficult to not lose my dog.

There were regular posts in my local FB group about a little white dog that was wondering the streets all the time. Turned out his owner was disabled, and instead of getting a dog walker, would just open the door and let his dog out until it got brought back. Very irresponsible.

Also knew someone who lost her dog after she had a house fire. He sadly ran as far as a motorway and was hit by a truck.

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 14/06/2025 01:14

Are you ok hun????

said very tongue in cheek… as this one mini sentence is the reason I left social media!!!!

Ha, "I saw the air ambulance land in my local park. Can someone get in touch with the patient and tell him I hope he is ok"... type shite.

The worst I saw, and it upset me as I have been in this position... was someone saying that their teen lad saw someone in distress on a bridge over the motorway. He stopped to chat to them, called emergency services... they were taken away etc.
His mum posted on a FB group detailing the above, and demanded the person her son helped get in touch to give him an update. She spent several hours arguing with people that it was wrong that the person did not get in touch (they may have been sectioned FFS), and how it was causing her son distress.

This winds me up so very much! “I saw a lady collapse in the street so I administered CPR and waited with her till the ambulance came. Does anyone know if she’s okay? I’m not writing this post in any way to draw attention to my good deed or to solicit comments blowing smoke up my arse and to polish my halo, I just won’t rest until I hear that she’s alright”. Yeah right! 🙄

Also posts about potential ‘marks’ outside houses to highlight that they are ripe for burgling or dognapping. “There’s a big turd on the pavement outside my house”. “Be careful! It’s well known that Albanians have been going round shitting outside people’s houses to show their criminal friends that you’ve got a dog in the house”. Because that makes so much more sense than just texting their partners in crime to tell them that 26 Beech Grove has a dog.

TheOmbudsmansComingtoGetYou · 14/06/2025 01:09

Also we get people who I assume scour the streets looking for lost property so they can post about it.

The FB for my little town is pretty good at getting prolific shoplifters caught and re-uniting people with their lost credit cards, phones, glasses and kid's teddies. But we also have many of the posts mentioned previously 🙂

Pinches · 14/06/2025 00:54

Ours is full of arguments about whether we should allow anonymous posts or not with people getting really quite irate about it, which makes me think I would probably post anonymously too considering how full of spite these people are!

I think we must live in the same town lol. My local page is exactly the same.

RightOnTheEdge · 14/06/2025 00:54

The ones who say We were all kids once, and I bet you lot aren't perfect! drive me mad too OP.

My kids are probably sick of me moaning about lost dog posts. because someone will lose their dog and put a photo up and other people will comment.saying, Is it this one?
And then put a photo of a completely different dog that looks nothing like it, different breed and size, just the same colour.
I do know that they are trying to help, but I can't help it, it just really annoys me.

The absolute daily "I'm looking for a gardener" or "please recommmend a cleaner". Followed by posts from wives/girlfriends posting their partners' businesses.

and they're always "amazing"

And why can't they post their prices online? Why is it always "PM me hun".

Sounds exactly like my local group 😂. You missed off the posts asking if anyone “knows what’s going on” when police/ambulance/fire engine is seen anywhere 🙄.

I am SOOO with you on all of these!

It also bugs me so much that you can’t post on one of these groups asking a simple question without some daft man answering with a stupid reply thinking they’re hilarious and that they’ve made you look like a knob. I searched ‘window cleaner’ in my local one and on almost every post where someone was looking for a window cleaner the same man had replied you can get Windowlene from the co-op.

Absolutely! It's always men, it's never funny and it's so annoying. You wonder how admin don't lose their patience and block the irritating bastards

That’s so weird, this business about the car detailing/ valets has appeared on my own feed her in the UK in the last week.

so, I am guessing it is a front for some sort of scam.

Edited

I’ve seen it about carpet cleaning businesses here recently

I really hate it when someone posts and ask for something like the best fry up in the town. And you get replies saying "one you do at home".
FFS, if I could do a banging fried breakfast at home, I would not be asking where to get one elsewhere.

Well in Australia we have posts about people letting their cats roam (which is illegal here) and there will literally be fights about whether or not people should just suck it up. Or we get grainy security camera footage of kids on scooters who are damaging property/stealing packages ect. And typically someone knows them and then a bunch of vigilante dads decide they will go ‘teach them a lesson’. The latest most bizarre one is the ‘struggling car detailers’ I don’t understand it but it always a long post that starts with ‘this post is really hard to write but for years my partner and I have poured our hearts into our car cleaning business…’ there is usually a business page linked and comments turned off so that no one can comment scammer.
