New neighbour sunbathing in the nude

ZooHannah · 13/06/2025 22:26

We moved in to our dream home last month, we have a corner plot with only one direct neighbour who is a (I believe) single man and has always been polite and friendly in our initial conversations.

DH looked out of our bedroom window today to see our neighbour sunbathing completely starkers. He came downstairs to tell me and I couldn’t believe it when I went upstairs and saw for myself.

I want to go round to say something however DH has told me I am being ridiculous and he is on his own property so can go what he wants.

AIBU? I appreciate neighbourly relations but I am absolutely repulsed by this.

Have you considered using him as a novelty sundial?

This! 😂😂

Add onto the letter we can see you naked when we deliberately stand upstairs looking out of our window into your garden

Ah yes but has nobody considered he might not be comfortable knowing that OP can oogle at his bollocks either.
It might be polite to give him a little 'heads up' if you know what I mean. Wink

Selling tickets? 🤣😅😂

You can buy periscopes on Amazon! Just saying 😀.

Can't do the laughing react since it's been removed but....... 🤣🤣🤣

Whether he cares or not, he knows the risk is there, that he could be seen. He's not a 3 year old kid, he's fully aware.

He's in his own garden and might well think it's sheltered from view!

He's not laying in the park

And even then, it's only a risk if you care about being seen and judged

He’s not taking any risks. He’s entitled to go about his business, while naked, in the privacy of his own garden, just as a woman would be.

How's he going to see the shock on their faces from their upstairs window?

Maybe they're both staring at each other throught their binoculars?

ThatsItIveHadEnough · 14/06/2025 17:56

Are your children's rooms overlooking his garden? If so move the kids bedroom to the other side of the house so there is no way they can see him (unless they are over 6ft tall and peering over his garden fence, in which case they shouldn't be!)
I am surprised why you felt the need to go upstairs and check what your husband had already seen. I am sure he is very well versed in knowing what male genitalia looks like?! Or, is it just so you could clutch your pearls?
Seriously, it's his garden, he's not having a streakers festival or anything. Just chill out and have a glass of wine!

Another friend put it nicely - if my kids looked out of the window when at school and saw a naked man, he’d be locked up!

Edited

But he's not hanging around naked outside a school, is he? He's soaking up some rays in the privacy of his own garden, which is private property and where he can only be seen by someone going to the trouble of going upstairs to a window from which they can see over the boundary to get a peek at his todger.

You can't compare the two scenarios. It would be a massive false equivalence.

Or he just doesn't care if people see him and doesn't see it as a risk

He's taking unnecessary risks of being seen by other people. Some men get off on that "risk" as a previous poster said. Seeing the shock on someone's face at being "discovered" one for the wank bank.

I don't get the impression from the OP that he's searching out her face at the upstairs window. If he was displaying an erect penis or wanking then I would support her taking action but this isn't the case.

It’s not a risk if he doesn’t care though.

To flash I believe the penis has to be "errect and purposeful."

Other than being erect, I wonder how a penis looks purposeful? 🤔 😂

Well, I guess he might get sunburn on some delicate parts!

Icanttakethisanymore · 14/06/2025 17:34

I really don’t see the problem. Even if your kids see him, it’s a naked body. Presumably he’s not doing anything sexual. It’s fine.

Lillibridge · 14/06/2025 17:29

What we all want to know is, did the collars match the cuffs??? 🤣🤣🤣

FunMustard · 14/06/2025 17:08

If your kids are old enough and big enough to be looking out of an upstairs window to see him in the altogether, then they are old enough to understand that an adult can be nude on his own property.

If they are not, then it doesn't matter, because they can't see it anyway.
If it bothers you that much, put up a higher fence or a trellis or something.

I’ve slept on it and still feel extremely uncomfortable about this.

A friend has suggested it’s a man trying to assert his dominance - a single bloke with bravado. That’s not the impression we’ve had from conversations but it would explain how brazen he’s being.

It’s not like he’s got the body of a Greek god either - my DH must have 10 years on him and is in far better shape.

What's with the body shaming shit?

So you'd have no problem if he had the 'body of a Greek God'?

Do you think only women with 'perfect' bodies should wear bikinis? Or are they ok to look 'less than perfect' in your eyes?

What if they live on a housing estate and there are several houses overlooking the garden? What if he decide to get rid of the fence.

I can just imagine the number of creepy pervs who would get a kick out of knowing their neighbours can see him and go inside for a wa*k 🤢. Horrid.

Edited

Respectfully, your post verges on hysteria.

What if he lives on a HA? What if he decides to get rid of the fence?

How about: What if he decides to dance around or jump around on a pogo stick?

The kicker to your post is the "I can just imagine..."
Can you? Can you really....
Maybe you're the one we should be concerned about? 🤔

''@mondaytosunday

A nude body is a natural thing.''

Yes, but there are social conventions and laws that tell you when it is appropriate not to wear clothes and when it is not.

This is why people don't walk down the street naked...

They actually can walk down the street naked and a few do. One recently I remember a couple going to the pub naked, I wouldn't want to be crushed against them at a crowded bar!

I remember my MIL telling me there was a girl sunbathing naked next door, they were in a first floor flat so could clearly see out of the living room window. She thought it was rather fun. And that was many years ago, where did the prudishness come from now? And she wouldn't have thought anything of it, if it had been a man. Or would it be fine if it was a young woman? or also revolting?
