Hi please tell me honestly if this is me being too serious or am I right?

I love animals and never want to see any being harmed. I have my own cat who is my little shadow and best friend.

I have a new friend (6 months give or take.) She knows I love animals and how much I love my cat.

Anyway, she keeps saying how much she dislikes cats and is going to skin mine when she comes to visit. I laughed this off.

she sent me a vid where an animal was being mistreated and I asked her not to send me anything like that, sort of laughed this off.

She told me she previously went to a festival and left her dog home alone without no one coming to feed it etc for 4 days. She gave the dog up eventually. I didn’t comment.

Last night she sent me a video of two rabbits all well and fluffy at first then the video cuts out and then two rabbits skinned and put on sticks appear, they’re then cooked and eaten.

I politely asked her not to send me anything like that. She said I’m a meat eater so shouldn’t be bothered. I said I know I am but I don’t want to see videos like this.

is this weird? She hasn’t said she’s joking but seems to find winding me up like this amusing. I’m rethinking my friendship???

Oh that’s nasty

and o don’t like cats at all

Sosigsandwich · 12/06/2025 15:52

She sounds like a psychopath and I'm not using that term lightly. I'd be absolutely ending the friendship.

dogcatkitten · 12/06/2025 15:51

Don't let her any where near your cat. Not joking.

And you're friends with her because? You're the one that's weird, professing to love animals yet politely asking her not to send videos, but opening them even though you know they'll show horrible stuff done to animals.

Im guessing OP doesn't know what the videos are until she's opened them? Either way, get rid

fatphalange · 12/06/2025 15:50

A friend’s DH is like this. It’s like it amuses him, and people being disgusted by his antics seems to give him a bit of a kick. Everyone thinks he’s an immature prat and have nothing to do with him (probably a sociopath as well tbh)

marshmallowpuff · 12/06/2025 15:50

I have to say, you rarely see a 100% poll on MN, but the fact that it’s currently at 100% should tell you something, OP! Y are DNBU.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 12/06/2025 15:49

I'd also tell her exactly why you're blocking her and I wouldn't be polite about it either!

I would not want this person as a friend. Block, move on.

GloriousGoosebumps · 12/06/2025 15:47

When someone tells you who they are, listen. She’s capable of searching out videos of animal cruelty, watching them to ensure they are suitably horrific and then forwarding them to you. It’s now time for you to decide what sort of person you are.

Yes I work from home full time. I go to gym classes with my best friend about twice a week.

I see my sister regularly and have few family things coming up. I read a lot and go walking.

but I felt like i missed having a bunch of girls to do stuff with so joined a friendship group. In this group there have been 4 girls who have had serious issues including a drugs problem, using me as an agony aunt and this girl.

I’ve left the group few weeks back.

Is it an online group? This is horrible, block everywhere, you need to make sure none of your personal details re home address and work aren't available to her. What a weirdo! Xx

Discoprincess6 · 12/06/2025 15:46

Thanks so much everyone. I really appreciate it. I will block and delete.

Jesus agree she is a psycho. And when I looked a moment ago I was heartened to see you have 100% YANBU on vote

MintChocCat · 12/06/2025 15:44

Disturbing. Block, delete, avoid - RUN

MissDoubleU · 12/06/2025 15:44

Block button is your friend. Press it on all platforms, including blocking her phone number. No explanation required.

Lurkingandlearning · 12/06/2025 15:43

I think you are unreasonable for remaining in contact with someone who left their dog alone for 4 days without food. You seem like a nice person so I don’t know how you could tolerate that. This person is despicable and, yeah possibly a psychopath. She also holds you in contempt which is why she has continued to send you disgusting images of animal cruelty. Get as far away from her as you can

Yes she's a psycho and I'm also concerned that you've even questioned it. Of course that isn't normal. It sounds like you're quite lonely, struggling with low self esteem. Do you work? Do hobbies? Perhaps you need to enlarge/enrich your life a bit.

Why would anyone send these type of videos to someone else, regardless if that person is an animal lover or not?! It's plain weird. The fact she seems to take delight in deliberately upsetting you and seems to not be horrified by these dreadful videos, is quite frankly a big massive red flag. I personally, would end this friendship, and block her.

Discoprincess6 · 12/06/2025 15:35

Coffeeishot · 12/06/2025 15:30

It sounds to me that you are a bit lonely and your confidence has slipped,

Yes it has and I am lonely. I’m left alone for high number of hours due to my fiancés job.

feel quite sad about the friendship ending as initially she made me laugh. But I obvs can’t let the video go. It’s weird. I don’t know the thinking of it being funny.

This is absolutely sickening behaviour! This woman is psychotic!

Discoprincess6 · 12/06/2025 15:29

I did want to say it back to her when she said it about my cat. I usually would. I don’t know what’s been going on with me lately. I feel like all that assertiveness I had is gone. I usually would have told her to eff off previously and called her sick. I don’t know why I haven’t.

Coffeeishot · 12/06/2025 15:28

It's fine to not have a huge circle of friends, just let it go she will add nothing to your life.

Gundogday · 12/06/2025 15:28

That’s vile. Glad to hear you’re dropping this friendship.
