Is this weird or am I being too serious? *Content warning- animal cruelty* edited by MNHQ

Hi please tell me honestly if this is me being too serious or am I right?

I love animals and never want to see any being harmed. I have my own cat who is my little shadow and best friend.

I have a new friend (6 months give or take.) She knows I love animals and how much I love my cat.

Anyway, she keeps saying how much she dislikes cats and is going to skin mine when she comes to visit. I laughed this off.

she sent me a vid where an animal was being mistreated and I asked her not to send me anything like that, sort of laughed this off.

She told me she previously went to a festival and left her dog home alone without no one coming to feed it etc for 4 days. She gave the dog up eventually. I didn’t comment.

Last night she sent me a video of two rabbits all well and fluffy at first then the video cuts out and then two rabbits skinned and put on sticks appear, they’re then cooked and eaten.

I politely asked her not to send me anything like that. She said I’m a meat eater so shouldn’t be bothered. I said I know I am but I don’t want to see videos like this.

is this weird? She hasn’t said she’s joking but seems to find winding me up like this amusing. I’m rethinking my friendship???

I was only tempted to vote YABU because what the hell are you doing being mates with this psycho on the first place? That's the weird part, not that you're now rethinking the friendship.

I'm not really an animal lover but I'd have been off at the first joke about skinning cats, let alone the abuse video. She sounds disturbed.

Even ignoring the specifics you've told her not to do something at least twice and she's still doing it - she doesn't respect you or your boundaries.

You've only known her a few months, it's not like you're losing an amazing long term friendship - just get rid.

Quality is more important than quantity when it comes to friends, OP, and it sounds like you have some good people in your life. But I know what you mean about missing having a group of girlfriends, I've got a couple of groups and they meant the world to me. I would find a hobby/class/voluntary work in something that interests you (animal rescue?) and hopefully you will meet like-minded people that way. Or if you can't find anything, start something yourself. I've seen a few posts on my local community Facebook group from people wanting to start a book club, walking group, craft circle, coffee meet up, whatever, and they've always received a really positive response.

I kind of let it slide because I don’t have that many friends. I have a very big family and I have my fiancé but only two long term friends.

so I went to a new group and I ended up meeting her. I’m going to let the friendship go.

Good for you! You will make nicer friends as you deserve. The dog abandonment speaks to who she really is.
Maybe look to a cat/ animal social media page or charity for new and better friends? Good luck.

Echo what other posters have said! I actually think there is a link between psychopaths and people who harm or enjoy watching harm to animals! I would actually just block her
