Came in today to an email from a parent. Student deeply upset as we did not get her flowers after she played the 'main part' in the 'show'
She is Year 7. The 'main part' she is talking about? The narrator in our form class assembly about climate change. We were on stage for 6 minutes. It's the done thing apparently- she's seen it on TikTok.
Just blast me into the sun now and be done with it.

Are stupid parents a new thing?

Sometimes I miss teaching and then I read….
actually scratch that. I never miss teaching.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 11/06/2025 14:56

Jesus wept. And I'm sitting here refusing to speak to the teacher on behalf of my (extremely dramatic and sensitive) 11 yo DS for repeatedly making jokes at DSs expense (even though I've already told the teacher how dramatic and sensitive DS is and that they have very different senses of humour and it might be better to avoid this).

I genuinely don't think the teacher is being intentionally mean and I suspect he does this joking with lots of the kids. Most of them seem to enjoy it. My DS just needs to toughen up a little. Plus he's leaving the school in 12 more days (not that he's counting).

Kids need to learn that not everything goes your way all the time in life.

I'm not in the Drama Department at my school, but they do have a lot of people arriving with flowers for their kids now after a show

Really? Oh dear this is because the Tik Tok generation have become parents. 🫤

Jiddles · 11/06/2025 14:55

Good lord.

JoshLymanSwagger · 11/06/2025 14:52

Your child participated in a class assembly and performed her role to an adequate standard.
The school does not provide flowers for students.

Regards
Teacher.

Dear Parent,

Thank you so much for informing us of the distress this incident has caused your darling daughter. We were equally appalled when we noticed that you hadn't organised aforementioned flowers but assumed you were preparing for a grand ceremony upon her return home that day. Naturally, we will be informing the SEN department to organise some trauma counselling for your child. We will also aim to make some time for her to be presented with the flowers in our next assembly. Please let us know when you have sourced an appropriate bouquet and perhaps a minor celebrity to present them. If you need any further support with parenting your offspring, do not hesitate to contact us.

I might have been tempted to use sprog or (devil’s) spawn in place of offspring. 😁

LBFseBrom · 11/06/2025 14:51

I've never heard the like. The parent is crackers.

Dear FlowerMum,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will of course rectify it immediately. Here are DD's flowers >> 💐
Please print them out and put them in a vase immediately to keep them fresh.
Yours sincerely,
Teacher

Oh I love this 😂

Lighttheflame · 11/06/2025 14:50

Please remember that most of us parents are not wankers, and would completely agree with you about the nuttiness of demanding flowers like this!

you are doing a WONDERFUL job, teachers! Please stay! 🌻

I am not surprised. Just reading how some Mothers have meltdowns when others do not drop everything to pray at the tiny feet of their newborns shows how ridiculous many parents are. Too many Mums think they are the Madonna and their child is the chosen one.

CarpetKnees · 11/06/2025 14:47

This would be one of those replies I would HAVE to pass by someone else first (well, in truth, get them to write it) as I can NOT stretch my diplomatic skills that far.

Soooooooooooooooo much time wasted, trying not to say what you really want to say, to parents like this.

greencartbluecart · 11/06/2025 14:38

OMG!

Dangermoo · 11/06/2025 14:36

We're in the throes of the age of entitlement.

Yeah this pamper parenting is beyond a joke now. My DSD asked if her dad could get her a Starbucks gift card as a well done present after her mock sats as that’s what her friends got. Needless to say it was a firm no and followed by some words around gratefulness.

Saying 'no' is really quite easy the first time. There are lots of parents who could do with standing in front of a mirror and practising. Harder is repeating it in the same tone of voice lots of times. I used to say to my DD: 'You can ask me the same question as many times as you like and spend all day doing it. The answer will still be no because a process of attrition will not work. Or you can find something more interesting to do instead.'

Favouritefruits · 11/06/2025 14:31

Honestly parents need to butt out of their children’s lives!

I work at a dance school, the amount of parents who record their children at home dancing and then send it to us to show us why their child should do a solo 🫣

LiveshipParagon · 11/06/2025 14:28

Fstt1978 · 11/06/2025 14:21

but also, don't buy them flowers you fuckwits

The temptation to send this reply must be strong 😂

Maybe reply "it's a shame SadKid is so upset. We'll make every effort to give the larger roles to other children in future. I'm sure SadKid will manage admirably, as there is clearly a sufficient level of drama at home."

Todayisaday · 11/06/2025 14:28

Urrrgggh I am not a teacher but I would love to slap this parent with a wet fish.
Some people are just fucking idiots. Why are there so many of them? How did they get to be so ridiculous?
Sorry OP, this stuff makes me mad. Not all us parents are like this. I have a year 7 and if he was upset aboht this and tried complaining to me I would slap him with a wet fish too😂

The best example I have seen recently of parents being the main reason I did a PGCE then decided teaching wasn't for me. What a silly parent for not seeing her job was to surmise for her DD why she hadn't been given flowers and that Tik Tok isn't real life.

crumblingschools · 11/06/2025 14:24

There will be a sad face photo in the Daily Mail

Maybe mum got an earful from daughter about not getting flowers from her and mum is deflecting this nonsense onto the school.
Was it standing ovation worthy?

What the actual fuck? All
power to you in how you respond politely and professionally to that email. I would personally ignore it.

There are some seriously entitled people in the world and this one might take the cake?

I would love to see a copy of that reply. A true test of diplomacy.
