Tom Felton getting stick. Is this really the world we live in now?

Whatever your stance is on trans issues do people really have nothing better to do than verbally slaughter him for choosing to continue within the franchise and being honest that he has no strong opinions on the matter? He's a big boy now and I'm sure he can handle himself but it makes me terrified for the young actors who are also already being subjected to this as well.

I myself was also pretty much forced to remove a post on a facebook group congratulating one of the young actors on being cast in the TV series as some of the vitriol I received completely overpowered the positive intention of the post. I said nothing inflammatory just pointed out that not everyone disagrees with JK's opinions and that we need to be accepting of opinions which are different to our own.

I'd understand the backlash if JK or so called TERFS were spreading genuine hate or encouraging persecution of a group but I just don't see that. IMO whatever your views on gender identity are there's way more horrible and important things going on in the world. Is a lot of trans-activisim really just a way for young people to express their very valid dissatisfaction with the world in general in a reasonably safe way? Honestly maybe I'm getting old and boring but I just don't get it.

What is nasty or defamatory about that?

Yeah I get the harassment point, but I can't be the only person who actually thinks better of Tom Fenton the more of this crap I read. Like reverse defamation.

SidewaysOtter · 12/06/2025 07:45

Or indeed when she’s been “nasty”.

It’s the tired old “both sides are as bad as each other” argument.

I think JKR has been quite nasty at times. I have some serious issues with gender ideology. But I also have a lot of compassion for trans individuals. I think JKR has lost that along the way.

That being said, Tom Felton has been offered the perfect role for him and he’s taken it. Good for him.

Can you give an example of when she's 'lost compassion for trans people'?

Oh dear. You’ve been arguing on the side of the trans activists for so long that you’ve normalised nastiness and can no longer identify it. Says a lot.

Why don’t you have a look for yourself.

I think multiple nasty and potentially defamatory articles written about him by activist ‘journalists’ clearly hoping to cost him work and reputation constitutes harassment, yes.

A flavour of the hyperbole:

“Tom Felton, however, is actively choosing to ignore the elephant in the room. It's disingenuous to pretend that Rowling's statements don't affect him, especially since her very comments endanger the lives of people in the trans and queer community, many of whom are his fans. To me, this implies that Tom cares more about collecting a paycheck than standing up for trans rights, which are human rights, and I desperately need him to do better.”

I agree - I know people say they should use their platform but it's really better for them as well as us if they keep their mouths firmly shut on anything controversial!

To be fair to him, he has

So called Trans Women hectoring, bullying and threatening violence against those who disagree with them just proves they are, and always will be men.

I think it’s far better for everyone when actors don’t share their political beliefs.

No, people aren’t entitled to harass others for not believing in, or aligning with, their own fantasy.

There haven't been accusations but if you want to know more about funding, google is your friend.

Edited

You appear to be making claims you can’t back up. Only one side in this has been funded (to the tune of $millions) and arguably manipulated (men told they are the most vulnerable people in the world) and it’s not the side of women.

Do get your facts straight. Women are not the ones bullying, lying, manipulating organisations and getting people sacked for their factual beliefs.

Google is your friend. Start by looking up the Arcus Foundation and consider that an American organisation felt the need to give Stonewall large amounts of money to promote trans ideology. Then look at the exponential growth of the global ‘trans’ medication/surgery market. Yes, even in this country where surgeons and doctors are profiting enormously from removing healthy organs from young people.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/06/2025 22:55

alltogethana · 10/06/2025 15:01

See above my answer to your friend. I am making just one more comment then leaving you to it, and that is, please note that you are not on the "side of "women" and that all women think the same on every single point - we don't - there are as many opinions as there are women and this is how it should be. For example, I agree with some of what your groups says, but not everything.

The fact that you think that you represent all women in every respect and that you all tend to write as a homogeneous group without much fallout indicates that there has been some manipulation/polarisation.

The funding is a slightly different point.

I will leave you to it now.

I won’t “note” anything of the sort. This is about women’s sex based rights. Dissenting women’s rights matter too. Not every woman needs to agree with the statements of basic fact and fairness which underpin the gender critical feminist movement, to make it a pro-women movement. Not all women are feminists. Not all women supported (or support) legal changes that allow women to participate fully in public life.

sallysinna · 10/06/2025 19:31

So basically having no opinion on it is now hate. The only opinion you’re allowed to have is to accept/support them. It’s not ok simply not to give a shit. Gotcha.

Such an entitled, self important, toxic bunch.

It's crazy how many people in the UK are transphobic and so uneducated. Trans people have been around as long as us cisgender folk have.

Now there are more medications available. Two physicians I work with and three nurses I work with are transgender.

Don't be scared just because you don't understand.

You've claimed on other threads to be a "physician" in Ireland.

Can I ask, in all seriousness, do you honestly believe that people are magically transformed from one sex to another? (also, how is that done?)

Or do you perhaps believe in all this "boy brain" and "girl brain" stuff?

Or do you, perhaps, believe that it is a mental illness for some and a sexual fetish for others?

I am genuinely interested to understand what you, as a "physician", actually believe is reality when it comes to trans identifying people.

Would you care to share your beliefs with us?

Hotflushesandchilblains · 10/06/2025 19:22

Sadly, we had made huge progress breaking down sex based stereotypes in the 70s and 80s - the trans lobby has enforced them on steroids.

I dont think it is just one group that did this, to be honest. I despair at how things have been swinging back from where they were. I remember in the 80s how babies were dressed in neutral colours. 10 years later, trying to find anything not pink or blue was impossible.

BundleBoogie · 10/06/2025 19:15

itsnotabouthepasta · 10/06/2025 11:54

honestly I just think if all these people put their efforts and energies into overcoming stereotypes, the whole thing goes away.

My daughter loves football, wrestling and dinosaurs. When she was 2 she was obsessed with Fireman Sam and trains. She's not comfortable wearing skirts or dresses, but she also loves playing with hair and barbies - we've never limited anything. She's not a boy. Never ever thought she was a boy or anything, but I do worry that someone with nefarious intent could try to say that because she likes "boy" things (and I mean that in the most stereotypical sense possible) that she is a boy.

If a boy likes pink and is comfortable in dresses or wants to play with dolls - go right ahead! But it doesn't mean your a girl - if we can break down those gender stereotypes I genuinely think people would be much happier.

Well done you you and your daughter. She sounds similar tone when was a kid. My favourite Christmas present was a football and I coveted one of the boys Big Traks.

Sadly, we had made huge progress breaking down sex based stereotypes in the 70s and 80s - the trans lobby has enforced them on steroids.

They're coming after Riley Gaines (US swimmer) now

Simone Biles has had a huge go at her with added support for transwomen whilst failing to notice that men's gymnastics is very different to women's so it's not a problem she'll ever face

If only the ‘reasonable way’ had been revealed on this thread, but we will never know.

Yes. Usually the 'reasonable' way is third spaces where needed.

Which I believe feminists have been suggesting for going on two decades.

But... apparently, it would have all been sorted if only both sides had stopped it 'going mad' and been 'reasonable'. It really is telling granny how to suck eggs. It is completely fucking tone deaf.

Merrymouse · 10/06/2025 18:59

Helleofabore · 10/06/2025 18:49

"We could and should have found a reasonable way for both sides to feel okay about all this before it went mad and that would have stopped it all going mad."

You know, the more I think about this statement, the more incredulous I feel that someone actually believes this. The topic was well under discussion in the 2000s. On MN, there was push back from posters even as early as 2010 on feminists stating that no male person can ever change sex and that female people needed single sex provisions that excluded male people.

The censuring of women's voices has a very long history on this topic. And the 2019 Denton's report specifically stated as one of the strategies for achieving goals in government and NGOs stated 'Be wary of compromise'. page 21

www.trust.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/downloaded_file-69.pdf

To make such a statement above, really shows the level of misinformation that there is in the current on line discussions. I have seen since the Supreme Court judgement that there are extreme trans activists * declaring that women have only been raising the issue recently. Before that women were accepting of male people in spaces etc.

No fucking way. It was discussed before then. But from about 2015 Stonewall took on its role in representing transgender interests. It is when the 'no debate' really took hold.

In at least two court cases over the past 3 - 4 years, extreme transgender activists in roles of power of women (who may or may not have been people with transgender identities) said under oath in court that women are allowed to think anything they want. However, there is no possible way, in their mind for a woman to express the belief that no male person can be a female person. One of those people was part of the Dr Upton case just months ago, saying that there was no way that Sandie Peggie could say that Upton should not be using a female NHS changing room without being considered hateful and transphobic.

And yet, we are told that "We could and should have found a reasonable way for both sides to feel okay about all this before it went mad and that would have stopped it all going mad.". When women are still not even able to be able to say in their workplace that they need a single sex space to remain single sex.

There really is no symmetry between women who have been silenced for so long, who cannot even have a meeting to discuss these issues. Meetings have regularly either been cancelled because the venue has succumbed to pressure from extreme transgender activists, or drowned out by music or as in one instance people bashing on glass windows and scaring women with the violence of it all, or blocking entrance into the meet up, or protesting when inside to disrupt the meeting.

There really is no symmetry when lesbians are being banned or limited from campaigning or marching for their specific needs, as female people from LGBT+ events. Even in 2018, Munroe Bergdorf told women that they should not be centring female reproductive needs in a Women's March because it was exclusionary.

But apparently...

"We could and should have found a reasonable way for both sides to feel okay about all this before it went mad and that would have stopped it all going mad."

*Extreme trans activists are those who are demanding additional privileges for male people with transgender identities. And by 'additional privileges' I mean privileges that are not available to any other male person, such as being able to access not only male people's rights and provisions, but also female rights and provisions. This sub group have different aims to the trans activists who are rightfully campaigning to be not discriminated against in their work place so that they don't get jobs, or housing etc.
