Does this reply sound OTT? Dating

Wellisayohyeah · 09/06/2025 20:26

Someone I'm dating, he messaged me about 7:30pm last night, and I didn't reply until 9am today, I got in late last night and just fell straight asleep.
We normally text every few hours, we send about 2 or 3 texts a day.

Anyway I messaged saying 'sorry for replying late, I just fell asleep last night' he replied saying 'aw it's ok, just as long as you're alright 🥰'.

Does that sound a bit OTT from him or is it just me overthinking it?

I'm not the one scrambling to find fault in a perfectly nice response to a text. I'm happy with my responses, which accords with the way the voting is going.

Good for you 👍🏼

I wasn’t scrambling to find fault.

I was simply stating I think it’s sad as a society some people feel the need to apologise for “replying late” when texting someone in casual conversation the next day. People should be able to live their lives without being in constant contact with others.

Screamingabdabz · 09/06/2025 22:16

This thread reminds me of that scene in an Amy Schumer film where they’re so used to men never calling that when one rings her the day after the date her friend immediately announces that he must be pervert and to not answer.

Op, on that single text, he sounds perfectly nice.

Well given some of your rude responses, it's understandable you think that.

Likewise.

CinnamonBuns67 · 09/06/2025 22:11

Yabu. I think it's a very nice and caring response not OTT at all. Calm down and stop overthinking and just enjoy dating someone who is glad that you are alright 🙂

BarbieKew · 09/06/2025 22:10

@Wellisayohyeah what sort of reply would you have had from your previous partners? Would you have been pissed off if it was the other way round and he hadn’t replied all night?

Sound like a perfectly reasonable reply to me. Just wondering whether you’re used to something different.

Straight in there with the preferred riposte of thick misogynists, I see

It's comparable as it's a natural reaction. Do you hesitate before you ever apologise and analyse whether you should do or not, over something so transactional?

I’ve never apologised for “replying late” when texting someone back in casual conversation the next day.

Not sure how you can compare that to forgetting someone’s birthday though.

Just because you’ve never done it, that doesn’t mean it’s weird or wrong. Different people have different preferences in how they communicate. It’s not up to you to set the benchmark. You do your thing and let other people do theirs.

She didn’t feel she HAD to apologise. She just said a very casual ‘sorry, was asleep’ because she WANTED to. It’s her business, not yours, how she wants to chat to her boyfriend.

Calm down dear. 😂

shivermetimbers77 · 09/06/2025 22:04

It’s a perfectly nice and normal reply from him. Can’t see the issue here.

No one…….?

Can’t you read?

The OP text saying “Sorry for replying late”. My point was that she shouldn’t need to apologise for texting back the next day. I think it’s sad how some people feel the need to have constant contact and need to reply immediately.

How is that “nuts”?

Oh give over. Its a natural thing to apologise. Do you not apologise when you're late, or have forgotten somebody's birthday? It's called courtesy.

OP- you didn’t need to apologise. You didn’t ghost him. You were literally living your life and text him the next morning.
